An information technology professional, Duane Wardell most recently served as a consultant database programmer and analyst for Memorial Hermann Healthcare System in Texas. In this capacity, he led and supported major DBA activities and worked with such software products as Oracle and INGRES. Outside of work, Duane Wardell is an avid basketball fan, and his favorite athlete is Magic Johnson.

Wardell is an avid basketball fan, and his favorite athlete is Magic
Johnson.
Magic Johnson was born in Lansing, Michigan as Earvin Johnson
Jr., the fourth of seven children. Both his mother and father were
interested in basketball, and as a result, he developed an interest in
the sport early on. His first successes came in high school. At age
15, he was already recognized as one of his school’s star players.
He helped the team win the state championship and earned the
nickname “Magic” after getting 18 rebounds, 16 assists, and a triple-
double of 36 points in a single game.

3.  Following high school, Johnson continued making a name for
himself as a player for Michigan State University. While in
college, he helped his team earn the Big Ten Conference title
and win the NCAA finals against Indiana State. After two
years, he was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers and won the
NBA Finals MVP award during his first year.
Over the next several seasons, Magic Johnson helped the
Lakers win numerous NBA titles and championships. He was
a 12-time All-Star, was MVP multiple times, and was named
one of the NBA’s 50 greatest players in 1996. After discovering
that he carried the HIV virus in 1991, he played professional
basketball only sporadically before finally retiring in 1996.
More recently, he has been a successful investor, becoming a
part owner of the Lakers himself, and later, the Los Angeles
Dodgers.
