To Whom it May Concern,
It is with great pleasure that I write this letter of recommendation on the behalf of Andrew Grimaldi to your
organization. I have had the pleasure of knowing Andrew since this past spring of 2011 when he enrolled in
my ECN 221 Principles of Macroeconomics course. Andrew subsequently enrolled in my ECN 222
Principles of Microeconomics course during this Fall 2011 semester. Having him in class twice gives me
some assurance that my perspective on Andrew is fairly well informed. During Andrew’s first class with
me I quickly realized that he was a very dedicated student. He has been an active participant in each class
and scored well on all assignments and exams. The grades he earned in ECN 221 are commendable, as my
course tends to be challenging by design.
While Andrew has tended to excel in each of his classes with me, I can also say from experience that his
intellectual curiosity and promise cannot be completely summed up by any particular grade earned in my
courses. Andrew has continuously demonstrated an inquisitive mind and a drive to decrease the unknown.
He generally will be the student driving our classroom discussion, asking the pertinent questions and
critically thinking about the many economic issues we cover in class. I believe that he exemplifies the
qualities that I do not often see in students taking my principles of economics classes. These are traits I
would instead associate with a successful graduate student in economics. As an educator I am absolutely
ecstatic that Andrew craves further insights into economic concepts, not only because in doing so he is
taking full advantage of his academic opportunities but because he pushes me to be a better professor. I
would enjoy having more students like Andrew in the courses I teach. Having Andrew as a student has
been extremely enjoyable for me and I also believe tremendously enriching for him.
I can say with confidence that Andrew has all of the tools and motivation to succeed anywhere he goes. I
believe that your organization will be enriched with Andrew’s presence and I am sure that it will be a
pleasure watching him mature and grow into his potential which I believe is quite high. If you have any
further questions please feel free to contact me by email (markmitchell@delta.edu) or telephone (989-6869429).
Sincerely,

Mark N. Mitchell Ph.D.
