Please use this letter as a recommendation for Drew DeVries when considering him for a position with your
organization.
Drew has worked for me in the Calvin Sports Information Office over the last three years as a student
assistant. Drew’s primary focus while working for me has been as a writer, producing game stories, athlete
and coaching profiles, season previews and general feature stories. He has also assisted in gathering
statistics at soccer, basketball, baseball and softball games as well as assisting me with our electronic
timing system at home outdoor track and field meets.
Drew has been very competent in gathering statistics and learning new technology software but his greatest
strength is in the field of writing.
I’ve felt very comfortable assigning Drew a season preview piece, feature story or game story. Drew is a
solid reporter with attention to detail. In addition, his writing skills have improved noticeably with each
year. The more responsibility I give Drew, the more he improves.
One of Drew’s traits is his quiet and soft-spoken nature. However, I have noticed that Drew has grown
much more assertive and outgoing during his three years working in my office. He has become confident
with his interviewing skills and he has also shown a curiosity that is essential in becoming a strong
journalist. In addition, Drew is very courteous and conscientious. He has always been respectful of me and
of those working around him.
I believe that Drew has strong potential as a writer and journalist and I would recommend his talents to any
future employer.
