This document summarizes the symptoms of different types of spinal cord injuries. Lumbar and thoracic injuries can cause leg movement issues and loss of bladder/bowel control. Cervical injuries are most severe and can impact arms, legs, breathing, and cause unconsciousness - the higher the injury, the greater the danger. Other symptoms include headaches, pain, numbness, tingling, and shock. The document stresses seeking immediate medical help if spinal cord injuries are suspected.

posted Jul 5, 2018, 2:23 AM by Dr. Karl Jawhari [ updated Jul 5, 2018, 2:27 AM ]
Spinal cord injuries are not always as apparent as other injuries. They can
begin with slight discomfort but result in something terrible later on. Spotting
the symptoms of spinal cord injuries is important because treating them as
early as possible to avoid further complications. Here are some examples of
spinal cord injuries and the symptoms they show.
Lumbar and thoracic spinal damage can manifest in leg movements,
speci cally problems walking. This can lead to eventual loss of control or
inability to move the legs. Other symptoms of lumbar spinal damage also
include loss of control of the bladder and bowels.

2. Cervical spine injury is the most severe among spinal injuries and can be life-
threatening if left unchecked. Symptoms of cervical spine damage can a ect
the arms, legs, mid-body, and even one’s ability to breathe. Symptoms can
sometimes be felt on both sides of the body. And as far as cervical spine
injuries go, the higher the injury is located in the spine, the greater the danger.
Other symptoms of spinal cord injuries include headaches, pain, pressure, and
sti ness in the back area, numbness and tingling sensations in the extremities,
signs of shock, and even falling in and out of unconsciousness. If you suspect
a person is su ering from spinal cord injuries, it is vital to seek medical
attention right away.
