The document describes the preparation and provisional restoration process for porcelain veneers on tooth #8. It details the steps for preparing the tooth including reducing the enamel on the labial, interproximal, gingival, incisal and lingual surfaces to create a uniform chamfer finish line. It then explains how to directly make a provisional composite veneer by taking an impression and vacuum forming a plastic mold, loading it with composite and trimming/polishing it to fit over the prepared tooth.
5. Finish line - the terminal portion of the prepared tooth
Margin - the outer edge of a restoration

•green coarse
•black super-coarse

- distinct margin, adequate bulk,
- recommended for cast metal restorations,
lingual margin of metal-ceramic crowns.

8. DEEP CHAMFER
- bulk of restorative material,
- less conservative of tooth preparation,
- recommended for facial and lingual margin
of metal-ceramic crowns, complete ceramic crowns.

10. LABIAL REDUCTION
Use the depth cutter diamond bur across the labial surface of the tooth in
a mesial to distal direction in three areas:
- the incisal third
- the middle third
- the gingival third.
Anna Organ-Boshes, DDS
11. The depth of the cut is limited by the shank of the bur.
The bur will develop depth cuts as horizontal grooves of 0.3 mm deep,
leaving a raised strip of enamel between.
Anna Organ-Boshes, DDS
12. •Use round end tapered diamond bur to
remove remaining labial enamel.
•Move the bur from the mesial to distal
direction, following the tooth curvature
from mesial to distal and from gingival to
incisal.
Anna Organ-Boshes, DDS
13. The diamond bur will give a chamfer finish line at the gingival margin.
GINGIVAL EXTENSION
Anna Organ-Boshes, DDS
14. INTERPROXIMAL EXTENSION
With the round end tapered diamond bur, extend the mesial and
distal margins around the mesiobuccal and distobuccal line angles
into the interproximal contact areas.
Anna Organ-Boshes, DDS
15. INCISAL REDUCTION
Make depth cuts approximately 1 mm deep at the incisal edge, then reduce
the incisal edge to the depth cuts by moving the diamond bur
from mesial to distal.
Incisal reduction should be at least 1 mm
Anna Organ-Boshes, DDS
16. LINGUAL EXTENSION
•The lingual margin should be located away from the occlusal contacts
•The finish line of the preparation is created with round end tapered
diamond bur, which creates rounded chamfer.

17. Completed #8 veneer preparation
To prevent areas of stress concentration
and veneer fracture,
all prepared surfaces should be rounded.

18. PROVISIONAL RESTORATION - direct method
Diagnostic impressions are made before preparing the teeth.
Diagnostic wax-up is completed to make any corrections: shape, length,
or closing up diastema.
A transparent plastic vacuum form is then fabricated.
Anna Organ-Boshes, DDS
19. PROVISIONAL RESTORATION - direct method
Vaseline is applied to the prepared tooth
and adjacent teeth.

20. The plastic mold is loaded with a light-cured composite (Microfil).

21. The mold with composite is applied to the prepared tooth and light-cured.
