1. Letter of Recommendation
I have had the privilege of working with Doug since June 2015. I was hired as the Interlibrary
Loan Lending supervisor and he was a student employee in this area. I have been continuously
impressed with his great job performance, initiative and proactivity, reliability, professionalism and
interpersonal skills.
In our area we do highly detailed work because we deal with a great number of rules and
conditions. It is very easy to make a mistake because of this. However, Doug rarely if ever makes
mistakes. He is meticulous and detail-oriented in his processing and also very thorough. Because of
these qualities, he is very proficient at this job. He is also wonderful at training other students. I refer
other students to Doug if I won’t be there. I’ve also been impressed with his computer skills. We deal
with a great number of computer programs, general and library specific, and he is very savvy with all of
them, above what is required for the job. He also has additional computer design skills that have been
helpful in making particular documents.
Doug is very proactive and has greatly helped our area because of his initiative. On numerous
occasions, he has done things above and beyond what was expected. For instance, he specifically asked
to be trained on some challenging tasks that we had been lagging behind in. He saw there was a need
and sought me out instead of being asked. He now does these assignments without being asked,
particularly if he notices that we are falling behind in it. On another occasion, he noticed that a sheet
needed to be updated that would help employees perform their work better. He updated this,
completely of his own volition. Whenever we have slower times in our area, Doug will always find other
things to work on. On one of these occasions, he updated one of our documents. Doug is incredibly
impressive in this regard, the best I’ve worked with in taking initiative.
Recently I was gone on maternity leave and I left quite a few responsibilities with Doug because
he is so reliable. He handled everything admirably, even when there was a considerable workload
because I was absent as well as other employees. He is also very reliable with his schedule, always
punctual and coming in when he is assigned, or talking to me previously.
Doug makes our area a wonderful place to work because of his professionalism and concern for
others. He has such a great rapport with all of the employees here and simply makes work pleasant. He
is really good at connecting with others, probably because he is empathetic.
