There are as many types of power as there are people" Is this true of the texts you have studied? In your response you should relate to your
prescribed text (1984) and ONE related text. Power can be defined as many types ranging from physical, psychological, love, status or government.
With power comes great responsibility. If power is not controlled, negative consequences could be developed. This is noticeable through the 2 texts
that have been analysed, George Orwell 1984 and Disney Pixar Film WALL E. In both these texts, countless types of power can be extracted whether it
is being used for the good or bad. Power is Power, what you do with it is your decision. George Orwell novel is a social commentary of a dystopian

Disney Pixar is portraying a strong message of technological power in which an individual should not have a strong reliance on as it can backfire
in the long run, this message is successfully achieved in this film. The unusual use of technology as a tool of inflicting power also plays a vital
role in 1984. The recurring motif of telescreens suggests the disturbing presence of the higher authorities invading privacy. "Winston kept his back
turned to the telescreen. It was safer, though, as he well knew, even a back can be revealing" tq...effect: evokes dramatic tension from the result of
being constantly watched & the risk of being caught which is constantly repeated throughout the novel. Orwell evokes empathy as the reader
relates to Winston as they question the loss of privacy, dignity and freedom as well as the Government destroying the lives of so many people yet
they cannot do anything to fight back. The way in which George Orwell describes the telescreen shows absolute power it gains over Oceania. "Who
controls the past controls the future. Who controls the present controls the past." (TQ) This portrays an important example of the Party's knowledge
of using false history to break down the psychological independence of Oceania. Control of the past ensures control of the future, because the past can
be treated essentially as a set of steps that justify or encourage future goals. The Party creates a past that was a time of

For me, learning a language is a complicated process. It is different from learning other subjects. It involves a lot of practices and follow up. When I
talk about my personal experience, I would say that I have a rich experience in learning English as a second language. English was taught to me for
ten years starting from grade seven till graduation from university. After graduation, I felt that I should improve my language skills. Therefore, I did a
lot of efforts personally to increase my fluency. Until now I still learn the language. Indeed, learning a language takes a lifetime.
I started learning English as a second language when I was in first intermediate. I still remember my first classes and my first teachers. I remember that
my teachers changed frequently in the first year but all of them have much in common. All of them used grammar translation method. They used to
write bilingual lists of words on board, then we, as students, were asked to copy these lists and memorize them by heart. All teaching concentrated on
reading and writing skills, but there were no activities concentrating on speaking or listening. In addition, grammar rules were taught in that stage of
learning the language as mathematics equations, and we were asked to memorize the rules as we...show more content...
Of course, there are certain defects or gaps in my knowledge or ability to use the English language like using idioms and the appropriateness of some
vocabulary. Idioms have many connotations and denotations in the English language. Sometimes I use an idiom and I mean something, but the

English language entails high sense of using the appropriate word for describing or narrating something. To my mind, I have not reached this point

Vocabulary Essay In English
Learning another language is never easy. It requires a lot of effort to become competent in that language. Many things have to be considered to be
able to learn well a target language. One question that a learner has to ask himself is what he could focus in learning a language. Vocabulary plays a
vital role in learning any language. Vocabulary is "the knowledge of words and their meanings (Nash & Snowling as cited by Hansen, 2009)." With
vocabulary knowledge, a person can enhance his/her understanding of the written and listening inputs that he/she encounters. Learning words entails
reading and listening, yet, this becomes unattainable without knowing the meaning of the words. As Hazzlitt (1993) says, "if you do not know the
word, you can hardly know the thing (p.51)." Also, vocabulary aids in conveying ideas, thoughts and emotions, may it be written or spoken. Hence,
vocabulary is an indispensable tool in every language....show more content...

English 111 Research Paper
English 111
Upon entering English 111 onā€“line class, I had not taken an English class onā€“line before. In the past I have taken several other basic classes. English
has always been a struggle for me, mainly writing and grammar. Neither, writing or grammar has come natural to me. The biggest challenge for me is
putting my thoughts into words.
Currently I am employed full time, and also hold a part time position along with being a wife, and mother of two children. By furthering my education, I
can improve our future. Some days I just can't find the time I need to get what I need completed. Coming back to school after almost a decade has
not been an easy task for me. However, I know once I get done, it will be completely worth it.
One assignment that I feel as though I put my all into would be the Definition essay, in my opinion is my best. I took my time and tried to focus on

I also now know that I need additional time to devote to this class. Where in other classes, I do not seem to struggle on assignments and clarification. I
am a handsā€“on learner, so with onā€“line courses it is sometimes difficult to understand what is expected of the assignment, having the rubric helps
though.
Pushing ahead, I hope that I can achieve my goals to become a nurse. I know that there will be more English classes in my future. I think I will
choose to take them in a classroom setting. I also will try to be more diligent in getting my assignments completed correctly the first time and on
time. This class has encouraged me to be more proficient at the Blackboard and logging in to read my updates more regularly. I hope that my next
English class doesn't rely on essays so much, just because it is not one of my strengths. English 111 was defiantly a learning experience for

a foreign language is not easy and learners have to understand the culture, grammars, sentence structure, pronounce which is different from their

After the end of Advanced English Reading course I have to take the question into consideration that what I have gained? Reading skills? High grades
in final examination? Or a certificate of CETā€“6? All above are not I have gained or not enough, and not worth to discussing them. What I considered
them worth to discussing even not gained enough are writing skills, courage of opening mouth to speck English in public and the point that should been
learning how to think with critical thinking. And I believe there is more big significance to discuss those gains in my further learning, my career and
my life.
Those gains come to my learning inch by inch.
I have to illustrate the reason that I discusses the gain of writing skills not reading skills even though them are similar in developing a man`s thought to

"Black English" Another Way to Classify Humans
"To open your mouth Š’ā€¦ You have confessed your parents, your youth, your school, your salary, your self
ā€“esteem, and alas, your future ". After
reading the two essays, "From Outside, In" by Barbara Mellix and "If Black English Isn't a Language Then Tell Me, What Is?" by James Balwin, I
came to realize a few things one of them being that the way we speak, is a means of identifying somebody's culture and background. Much in how a
license can tell a person your name, age, were you live etc. a person can tell your race, what kind of education you have and were you are going in life
just by hearing you talk.
When slavery began, a time in human history that I assume many people would rather...show more content...
She would never make me feel "shame" or any less because I was being myself. It must have been hard on Mellix to be told that your language and
the language of your forefathers was not "proper" by you own mother.
I believe that learning a language is fine for the right reasons. Expanding your knowledge or going to a different country, these are both legitimate
reasons to learn a language. Learning a language because you will be ridiculed is not a proper reason. As Fanon stated in Mellix's essay to speak
is, "Š’ā€¦above all to assume a culture, to support the weight of a civilization2". So what Fanon suggest is that when you take on a language it is to
become part of the culture almost to change your identity, and I agree with that. I find when I meet somebody who can speak multiple languages I
look at them with more respect than I would if they only spoke one. Not to say I would look down on a person who only speaks one language, I just
find it admirable for somebody who would take the time to learn a new language.
Throughout this essay you may have noticed quotations around the terms "black English" and "standard English". This is because I find it ridiculous
to split English into two categories. When an Australian speaks and we find it hard to understand them we don't call it "aussie English", or when a
person from England comes and we find their English hard to understand we don't call there language "brit English". You see

Essay about Prejudice
Missing Formatting
In today's world, there are many social issues, like poverty, vandalism and unemployment. However, prejudice has become the most dramatic one.
Prejudging people for their appearance is a common practice that humans perform. People are not only ridiculed for their color, but also by their
religion, sex or age. Therefore, I consider that racism, ageism and sexism are the three major problems in our society and we need to cease them
immediately. Much of our world's history were based upon racism. In the 1600's, white men used Africans as slaves and treated them as they were not
human. "Colored" people were not even allowed to use the same drinking fountains as white people. Fortunately, in the last three decades, race...show

The most popular watched sport in America, NBA basketball, is played by over 87% of the African decent. Nevertheless, racism is still a issue
that will never completely go away. Ageism is also a worrying problem in our society. Though many people think that this is not a serious problem,
people are being harassed about their age everyday, whether they are "too young" or "too old". I have dealt with this problem myself, as many other
teenagers have. When I walk into some stores, I am asked to leave my purse at the counter and I am often followed around by employees. They watch
every move I make to make sure that I will not steal anything. I know that theft is a dilemma that many businesses have to deal with , but when it
gets to the point of being untrusted due to your age, it is completely ridiculous and inappropriate. Men and women have never been equal in the
world and that is what we call sexism. For example, if a man and a woman who have the same knowledge ask for the same job, the boss will probably
pick the man. Even though they both get the job, the man will maybe have a better salary than the woman. People always believe that men work better
than women but no one can give a satisfying explication to support that thought. Fortunately, sexism is decreasing constantly but it will never diminish
to the point of complete equality. We can never judge someone by their

English Major Essay
In recent years, the English major has faced an increasing amount of scrutiny. While the number of English majors throughout the United States is
rapidly declining, majors with roots in science, technology, engineering, and math are praised as worthwhile and immediately beneficial. Beginning
shortly after the Great Recession of 2008ā€“2009, humanitiesā€“based majors have been deemed expendable and trivial. President Barack Obama's 2011
State of the Union Address only served to propel this mindset as he "renewed his commitment for his 'Educate to Innovate' platform that specifically
targets [science, technology, engineering, and math degrees] as a means of helping to rebuild America's economic edge" (Luangphinith 64). In effect,
society now surmises English as archaic and obsolete in the quickā€“paced world (65). Although the English major is plagued with a plethora of...show

Reflection On My English 101 Experience
Reflecting on My English 101 Experience I used to consider writing as tumble words from your mind, write, read it through, fix minor mistakes, and
done. However, you rarely get successful. The truth is many students, including myself, struggle with starting to write a word, or getting stuck in the
middle without knowing the main point of the writing. After completing English 101, I can explain the writing process, evaluate the strengths of my
essay, and identify my weaknesses. Throughout English 101, I learned that the following the writing process was imperative. Before taking this class, I
use to always skip the preā€“writing step considering that it is just an easy and unnecessary step. Consequently, I struggled to figure how to start writing,
and most importantly I struggled to figure out the main point while writing the draft. And then I finish the first draft close to the deadline that I do not
have time to read it not to mention revising. It was after I started this class that learned that preā€“writing is vital, and requires time and attention as it
holds the base of the whole writing. My professor used different analogies such as blueprint for building and map for navigation to explain the
importance. It really speeded up my writing after I started to utilize it. I have learned outlining before, but part of the preā€“writing that I was fortunate
enough to learning in English 101 is the writing triangle. Even before outlining, the topic, purpose, and audience of the

English in My Life Essay
When my teacher said "good morning" to me on the very first day of school, I knew that she would be teaching a tough subject. She didn't
get any answer for that greeting because back then, I knew nothing about "good morning". Surprisingly, as I went through the class session
on that day, I realized that "good morning" wasn't the first English phrase that I'd known. English has been rooted in my society long
before my country achieved its independence and shockingly I've used some of its words in my daily speech without realizing it because the words

When someone speaks English in my society, he or she feels a sense of withdrawal because they are set apart to a very small group in the society.
People tend to belittle this group for speaking other languages, and normally they will end up speaking their first language to comply with the
larger group in the society. With all these reasons, my interest towards English was completely gone when I enrolled in secondary school, six years
after my formal `encounter' with the English language. For having this negative feeling, I became a member of a large group of students who had
never realized the significance of the English language. One day was unusually dull. I was waiting for the teacher to come to the class and instead of
revising my past English lessons that I rarely cared about, I prayed that she wouldn't show up that day. After ten minutes' wait, she entered the class
saying "good morning". The greeting didn't bother me much, but when she came to me asking for the assignment that she gave the day
before, I was speechless and I just gave her the blank handout that I was supposed to complete for that day. Her face showed no emotion and with that
she ripped the paper into pieces. That day marked a massive change in my attitude toward English lessons and the English language in general. The
incident was very important to me because I then realized that even in a subtle way, language represents people and to respect the language means to

English Essay: English As A Global Language
The English Language
A language that is spoken internationally is called "Global" or "World" language. A global language is a language in which people speak
internationally on a daily basis, in international organizations and diplomatic relations. It is a "lingua franca", a language that helps people from
different backgrounds to communicate with each other. Not many languages that have been established in human history have reached to the point in
which they are called a global language, amongst those few languages is English. Approximately 2 billion people around the world use English as a
native language, a second language or a foreign language. English is used for many causes, such as; technical and scientific communication, education
and employment.
The reason why English is a global language is because people tend to learn easier languages. English is a language that doesn't use complex grammar
and can be consumed relatively easy. Moreover, there are no grammatical differences between different genders and it consists of less auxiliary verbs
than any other language. Another factor that has led English to its popularity is the political and...show more content...

Essay On English Grammar
English grammar is an extensive and complicated set of rules that govern how we speak and write using the English language. Grammar has evolved
over many centuries, and the rules change from time to time. Teaching grammar plays a central role in every ESL / EFL teacher's classroom. The
topics cover a range from letters and sounds, parts of speech, vocabulary and stories to dialogue and conversation, listening comprehension, reading
comprehension and written composition. English language and its usage have become extremely emotive issues in recent years... 'An Introduction to
English Grammar' is an invaluable guide to the study of English language in an accessible format. Generally the authors begin with an introduction

,the production and perception of sounds, phonology ,how sounds are combined, morphology ,the study of forms, or how elements are combined to
create words, syntax ,how words are strung together into sentences, and semantics or meaning. Because all languages are characterized by these
components, by definition, language does not exist without

My Experience In English Writing
English is a core concept in the Untied States and other countries that has allowed inviduals to advance their knowledge. Not only does English
provide an advancement in knowlege, but has created a way for individuals to share their thoughts and feelings through writing. Which is why English
is one of the four subjects that is required to be taught in almost every school district in America including mine. I began taking English from a young
age which allowed me to take advanced placement English IV my senior year at Tupelo High School. Advanced Placement English IV allowed me to
further my education in writing, which in return allowed me to overcome obstacles, low points and discover strengths I never knew I had. Like any
other thing in life there are always obstacles individuals face everyday, for me in my English IV class writing was something that was very
challenging. The first challenge writing presented to me was trying to organize all of my thoughts, so that it made sense. The first essay I ever wrote in
my English class was a journal entry about a memorable experience, so with that being said I decided I would write about the experience I had while
hunting with my Dad. The hunting experience with my dad had many different parts, and one of my biggest challenges I had was organizing my
thoughts, so that it flowed correctly. Since I was telling a story within my journal I realized that I was jumping around more then I should have and this

Reflective Essay On English 101
Proficient writing is an essential skill in all aspects of academic and professional achievement. English 101, Introduction to Composition and Rhetoric,
provided the framework to good writing, teaching me composition and rhetoric fundamentals, polishing up my grammar and style, and expressing a
clear message. English 102, Composition, Rhetoric, and Research, continued to build on the skills I learned in English 101, focusing on the subject
matter research process and employing various rhetorical and literary devices to better express a clear message to the reader. The course also
improved my critical thinking capacity, allowing me to culturally evaluate my target audience, present logically flowing arguments using appropriate
language and structure, and critically reviewing my writing projects for content and expression. Every writer inherently knows there's always room
to improve and I hold fast to this mindset in all academic, professional, and personal writing projects. English 102 has both challenged and inspired
me to grow into a much better writer than before I began the class, providing the necessary skills to be not just a good writer, but a great writer.
Most of my English 102 writing projects are rhetorical arguments, intended to persuade the reader in one direction or another. Reflecting on the many

In your response you should relate to your prescribed text (1984) and ONE related text. Power can be defined as many types ranging from physical, psychological, love, status or government. With power comes great responsibility. If power is not controlled, negative consequences could be developed. This is noticeable through the 2 texts that have been analysed, George Orwell 1984 and Disney Pixar Film WALL E. In both these texts, countless types of power can be extracted whether it is being used for the good or bad. Power is Power, what you do with it is your decision. George Orwell novel is a social commentary of a dystopian future in...show more content... Disney Pixar is portraying a strong message of technological power in which an individual should not have a strong reliance on as it can backfire in the long run, this message is successfully achieved in this film. The unusual use of technology as a tool of inflicting power also plays a vital role in 1984. The recurring motif of telescreens suggests the disturbing presence of the higher authorities invading privacy. "Winston kept his back turned to the telescreen. It was safer, though, as he well knew, even a back can be revealing" tq...effect: evokes dramatic tension from the result of being constantly watched & the risk of being caught which is constantly repeated throughout the novel. Orwell evokes empathy as the reader relates to Winston as they question the loss of privacy, dignity and freedom as well as the Government destroying the lives of so many people yet they cannot do anything to fight back. The way in which George Orwell describes the telescreen shows absolute power it gains over Oceania. "Who controls the past controls the future. Who controls the present controls the past." (TQ) This portrays an important example of the Party's knowledge of using false history to break down the psychological independence of Oceania. Control of the past ensures control of the future, because the past can be treated essentially as a set of steps that justify or encourage future goals. The Party creates a past that was a time of Get more content on HelpWriting.net

When I talk about my personal experience, I would say that I have a rich experience in learning English as a second language. English was taught to me for ten years starting from grade seven till graduation from university. After graduation, I felt that I should improve my language skills. Therefore, I did a lot of efforts personally to increase my fluency. Until now I still learn the language. Indeed, learning a language takes a lifetime. I started learning English as a second language when I was in first intermediate. I still remember my first classes and my first teachers. I remember that my teachers changed frequently in the first year but all of them have much in common. All of them used grammar translation method. They used to write bilingual lists of words on board, then we, as students, were asked to copy these lists and memorize them by heart. All teaching concentrated on reading and writing skills, but there were no activities concentrating on speaking or listening. In addition, grammar rules were taught in that stage of learning the language as mathematics equations, and we were asked to memorize the rules as we...show more content... • 5. Vocabulary Essay In English Learning another language is never easy. It requires a lot of effort to become competent in that language. Many things have to be considered to be able to learn well a target language. One question that a learner has to ask himself is what he could focus in learning a language. Vocabulary plays a vital role in learning any language. Vocabulary is "the knowledge of words and their meanings (Nash & Snowling as cited by Hansen, 2009)." With vocabulary knowledge, a person can enhance his/her understanding of the written and listening inputs that he/she encounters. Learning words entails reading and listening, yet, this becomes unattainable without knowing the meaning of the words. As Hazzlitt (1993) says, "if you do not know the word, you can hardly know the thing (p.51)." Also, vocabulary aids in conveying ideas, thoughts and emotions, may it be written or spoken. Hence, vocabulary is an indispensable tool in every language....show more content... This makes the country as the fifth English largest speaking country in the world. • 10. Black English Essay example "Black English" Another Way to Classify Humans "To open your mouth Š’ā€¦ You have confessed your parents, your youth, your school, your salary, your self ā€“esteem, and alas, your future ". After reading the two essays, "From Outside, In" by Barbara Mellix and "If Black English Isn't a Language Then Tell Me, What Is?" by James Balwin, I came to realize a few things one of them being that the way we speak, is a means of identifying somebody's culture and background. Much in how a license can tell a person your name, age, were you live etc. a person can tell your race, what kind of education you have and were you are going in life just by hearing you talk. When slavery began, a time in human history that I assume many people would rather...show more content... She would never make me feel "shame" or any less because I was being myself. It must have been hard on Mellix to be told that your language and the language of your forefathers was not "proper" by you own mother. I believe that learning a language is fine for the right reasons. Expanding your knowledge or going to a different country, these are both legitimate reasons to learn a language. Learning a language because you will be ridiculed is not a proper reason. As Fanon stated in Mellix's essay to speak is, "Š’ā€¦above all to assume a culture, to support the weight of a civilization2". So what Fanon suggest is that when you take on a language it is to become part of the culture almost to change your identity, and I agree with that. I find when I meet somebody who can speak multiple languages I look at them with more respect than I would if they only spoke one. Not to say I would look down on a person who only speaks one language, I just find it admirable for somebody who would take the time to learn a new language. Throughout this essay you may have noticed quotations around the terms "black English" and "standard English". This is because I find it ridiculous to split English into two categories. When an Australian speaks and we find it hard to understand them we don't call it "aussie English", or when a person from England comes and we find their English hard to understand we don't call there language "brit English". • 11. Essay about Prejudice Missing Formatting In today's world, there are many social issues, like poverty, vandalism and unemployment. However, prejudice has become the most dramatic one. Prejudging people for their appearance is a common practice that humans perform. People are not only ridiculed for their color, but also by their religion, sex or age. Therefore, I consider that racism, ageism and sexism are the three major problems in our society and we need to cease them immediately. Much of our world's history were based upon racism. In the 1600's, white men used Africans as slaves and treated them as they were not human. "Colored" people were not even allowed to use the same drinking fountains as white people. Fortunately, in the last three decades, race...show more content... The most popular watched sport in America, NBA basketball, is played by over 87% of the African decent. Nevertheless, racism is still a issue that will never completely go away. Ageism is also a worrying problem in our society. Though many people think that this is not a serious problem, people are being harassed about their age everyday, whether they are "too young" or "too old". I have dealt with this problem myself, as many other teenagers have. When I walk into some stores, I am asked to leave my purse at the counter and I am often followed around by employees. They watch every move I make to make sure that I will not steal anything. I know that theft is a dilemma that many businesses have to deal with , but when it gets to the point of being untrusted due to your age, it is completely ridiculous and inappropriate. Men and women have never been equal in the world and that is what we call sexism. For example, if a man and a woman who have the same knowledge ask for the same job, the boss will probably pick the man. Even though they both get the job, the man will maybe have a better salary than the woman. People always believe that men work better than women but no one can give a satisfying explication to support that thought. Fortunately, sexism is decreasing constantly but it will never diminish to the point of complete equality. We can never judge someone by their Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. English Major Essay In recent years, the English major has faced an increasing amount of scrutiny. While the number of English majors throughout the United States is rapidly declining, majors with roots in science, technology, engineering, and math are praised as worthwhile and immediately beneficial. Beginning shortly after the Great Recession of 2008ā€“2009, humanitiesā€“based majors have been deemed expendable and trivial. President Barack Obama's 2011 State of the Union Address only served to propel this mindset as he "renewed his commitment for his 'Educate to Innovate' platform that specifically targets [science, technology, engineering, and math degrees] as a means of helping to rebuild America's economic edge" (Luangphinith 64). In effect, society now surmises English as archaic and obsolete in the quickā€“paced world (65). Although the English major is plagued with a plethora of...show more content... English majors can be found alongside scienceā€“based majors, penning articles for scientific publications because "'many [scientists] never received the education in the humanities... that would allow [them] to explain to nonscientists what [they] do and why it is important'" (Jacksonā€“Hayes). Reflection On My English 101 Experience Reflecting on My English 101 Experience I used to consider writing as tumble words from your mind, write, read it through, fix minor mistakes, and done. However, you rarely get successful. The truth is many students, including myself, struggle with starting to write a word, or getting stuck in the middle without knowing the main point of the writing. After completing English 101, I can explain the writing process, evaluate the strengths of my essay, and identify my weaknesses. Throughout English 101, I learned that the following the writing process was imperative. Before taking this class, I use to always skip the preā€“writing step considering that it is just an easy and unnecessary step. Consequently, I struggled to figure how to start writing, and most importantly I struggled to figure out the main point while writing the draft. And then I finish the first draft close to the deadline that I do not have time to read it not to mention revising. It was after I started this class that learned that preā€“writing is vital, and requires time and attention as it holds the base of the whole writing. My professor used different analogies such as blueprint for building and map for navigation to explain the importance. It really speeded up my writing after I started to utilize it. I have learned outlining before, but part of the preā€“writing that I was fortunate enough to learning in English 101 is the writing triangle. She didn't get any answer for that greeting because back then, I knew nothing about "good morning". Surprisingly, as I went through the class session on that day, I realized that "good morning" wasn't the first English phrase that I'd known. English has been rooted in my society long before my country achieved its independence and shockingly I've used some of its words in my daily speech without realizing it because the words were fully modified by the society so that they could be installed smoothly into our language. Learning English was always an interesting yet tough experience...show more content... When someone speaks English in my society, he or she feels a sense of withdrawal because they are set apart to a very small group in the society. People tend to belittle this group for speaking other languages, and normally they will end up speaking their first language to comply with the larger group in the society. With all these reasons, my interest towards English was completely gone when I enrolled in secondary school, six years after my formal `encounter' with the English language. For having this negative feeling, I became a member of a large group of students who had never realized the significance of the English language. One day was unusually dull. I was waiting for the teacher to come to the class and instead of revising my past English lessons that I rarely cared about, I prayed that she wouldn't show up that day. After ten minutes' wait, she entered the class saying "good morning". The greeting didn't bother me much, but when she came to me asking for the assignment that she gave the day before, I was speechless and I just gave her the blank handout that I was supposed to complete for that day. Her face showed no emotion and with that she ripped the paper into pieces. That day marked a massive change in my attitude toward English lessons and the English language in general. When I decided to do a shortā€“term English class, I thought it would be fun and challenging; My expectations were correct. As I write this reflection, I look back on the topics and assignments that existed in this short period of time from post 1 to the multiā€“modal project. I will list the challenges I experienced which creating the creative project, what I learned from the beginning of class to the end, and what I need to work on in the future. This English adventure started on post 1 and 2 and ended at the multiā€“modal project. When I first did post 1 and 2 ,I was excited because we were incorporating fallacies to our discussions. I previously learned more about fallacies and ethos, pathos, and logos from a previous communications course and I appreciated the review. I found that it was challenging to respond properly to posts created by other classmates. My initial response was always to support each and every classmate by telling them that they did an awesome job. I had trouble analyzing their work without agreeing with every claim. The multi model project brought tears to my eyes and I do not mean tears of joy. At first I loved my ideas and was excited about the outcome, but my stress and nervousness...show more content... Not only does English provide an advancement in knowlege, but has created a way for individuals to share their thoughts and feelings through writing. Which is why English is one of the four subjects that is required to be taught in almost every school district in America including mine. I began taking English from a young age which allowed me to take advanced placement English IV my senior year at Tupelo High School. Advanced Placement English IV allowed me to further my education in writing, which in return allowed me to overcome obstacles, low points and discover strengths I never knew I had. Like any other thing in life there are always obstacles individuals face everyday, for me in my English IV class writing was something that was very challenging. The first challenge writing presented to me was trying to organize all of my thoughts, so that it made sense. The first essay I ever wrote in my English class was a journal entry about a memorable experience, so with that being said I decided I would write about the experience I had while hunting with my Dad. The hunting experience with my dad had many different parts, and one of my biggest challenges I had was organizing my thoughts, so that it flowed correctly. English 101, Introduction to Composition and Rhetoric, provided the framework to good writing, teaching me composition and rhetoric fundamentals, polishing up my grammar and style, and expressing a clear message. English 102, Composition, Rhetoric, and Research, continued to build on the skills I learned in English 101, focusing on the subject matter research process and employing various rhetorical and literary devices to better express a clear message to the reader. The course also improved my critical thinking capacity, allowing me to culturally evaluate my target audience, present logically flowing arguments using appropriate language and structure, and critically reviewing my writing projects for content and expression. Every writer inherently knows there's always room to improve and I hold fast to this mindset in all academic, professional, and personal writing projects. English 102 has both challenged and inspired me to grow into a much better writer than before I began the class, providing the necessary skills to be not just a good writer, but a great writer. Most of my English 102 writing projects are rhetorical arguments, intended to persuade the reader in one direction or another. Reflecting on the many skills I honed in English 102, my predetermined use of rhetorical strategies (ethos, logos, pathos), developing a concise thesis statement, and clearly defining Get more content on HelpWriting.net
