Elodea Essay
Elodea will only survive when grown below the water's surface. When left out of water, elodea will shrivel up and die. Its small white flowers are
the only part of the plant that will flourish out of water, and these emerge in late summer. Elodea spreads and propagates when portions of the stem
break away from the parent plant and form new plants . Soil Elodea grows in most soils but prefers a sandy sediment that's rich in minerals and has a
neutral ph. The stems extend from a fibrous root system which stabilizes the plant in the soil at the bottom of the pond. The root system pulls nutrients
from the soil to nourish the elodea. Free–floating stems eventually form roots that anchor to the soil, allowing the plant

Biology Is The Science Of Life
Biology
Tania Espinoza–Flores
Abstract
Biology is the study of life. Biology talks about organisms and how they react to certain toxins, when you mix things up. There are nine fields in
biology. Some examples of the fields are evolutionary biology, cellular biology, and molecularbiology. Biology has a long history. Biology is beneficial
in many ways. Biology has impacted people in negative and positive ways. People who study biology are called biologists.
Biology, the Science of Life Biology has a long history. Early humans would study biology. They had to study the animals that they hunted, and they
had to know where to find the plants that they gathered for food. Biology is the study of life. Biology comes from Greek words. There are nine fields
in biology. Some of the nine...show more content...
It is the organisms that work to create new things. An organism is an individual animal, plant, or single–celled life form. All organisms come together
and create something new. The organisms take energy from the environment, and from the food they eat. The new organisms that the old ones created
will soon make new organisms. This forms a cycle. The cycle never ends until something bad happens to the organisms. An easy way of saying all of
this is by saying that the cycle continues until something bad happens to the organisms. Biologists are the important scientists of biology. Biologists
study the structure, function, growth, origin, evolution, and distribution of living organisms. Biologists study living organisms. For example, they study
humans, plants, animals, and many other living organisms. When they study these organisms, they find out many things about life and they study the
medicine that we use, so they can know what types of ways we will react to the medicine. People from long ago, would use biology to study the
animals that they hunted, and the plants they ate. Indeed, biologists are very important to

Breakthroughs In Biotechnology Research
Biotechnology to extend age in humans
Biotechnology is used everyday to change life, as we know it. In fact, people don't realize that early humans used biotechnology 10,000 years ago.
Early humans were producing beer, wine, bread, and yogurt by means of fermentation. Biotechnology is any technique that uses organisms or their
products to make a new product, to improve the life of humans or to develop microorganisms for specific scientific uses (Paul Cooley, 2014). As
early as 1500 BC humans were storing plants with certain traits such as disease resistance in order to selectively breed certain plants with certain traits
to better their lives (Jeffrey Kruck–Langland, 1999). A huge breakthrough inbiotechnology was the creation of penicillin in 1942 (Paul Cooley 2014).
This was a huge breakthrough and it save a lot of lives from disease during World War II. According to Paul Cooley (2014) in 1980 biotechnology
was used to rid the world of smallpox. Much disease such as breast cancer has been discovered through biotechnology such as breast cancer and
Parkinson's disease (Paul Cooley, 2014). They found these diseases to be gene related. In 1997 a sheep was cloned from a single adult cell through
biotechnology (Paul, Cooley, 2014). Biotechnology has been a very important part in many ways to human life, but most people do not realize that
Biotechnology may extend human life and create a better world of organisms. Biotechnology affects agriculture, the energy used to power

Essay on Ecology
Ecology An organism has several ways to avoid being prated upon. One way to avoid this is to practice crptis. Crypis is the action of organisms
avoiding predation by blending in with their backgrounds and matching the color pattern of a bark, twigs or leaves. Palatable animals often utilize this
strategy as well. Another type of defense is aposematism or warning coloratio. Organisms that produce noxious chemicals or accumalate them from
food plants, advertise the fact that they are harmful with conspicous color patterns. Mimicry is the resemblence of an organism toward some other
organism or an object inthe enviroment, evolved to decieve predators or prey into confuding the organism with that which it mimics. The prey involved

These hypothesis are based on the assumption that the birds realized that the red larvae are more tasteful , while the blue and lime larvae were often
distasteful. The focus of this experiment is to find out whether or not mimicry developed and whether the birds either learnt from the effects of
mimicry or caught on to the color pattern.
Materials and Methods
The procedure that was utilize from this experiment was very time consuming and involved an assortment of small procedures. The first step was
to decide upon the different colors of the food, and which speculate on whch colors would be most efficient for the experiment. In our case we
choose red, which represented a kind of dangerous color, blue which was still dangerous but a little more attractive than red and lime which seemed
like a nice friendly color. After than the ratios between the models were agreed upon based upon what we thought the colors would represent toward
the birds. The pattern that was used is pattern A. The red color had 100% mimicry, (palatable) and 0% for models (unpalatable). The blue color had
75% mimicry (palatable) and 25% for models (unpalatable). The lime had 25% mimicry and 75% for models (unpalatable). After that decision making
the class broke up into different groups to facilitate the larvae making process. The class divided into mixers, cutters, those that

Enzymes Essay
Introduction:
Enzymes are an important part of all metabolic reactions in the body. They are catalytic proteins, able to increase the rate of a reaction, without being
consumed in the process of doing so (Campbell 96). This allows the enzyme to be used again in another reaction. Enzymes speed up reactions by
lowering the activation energy, the energy needed to break the chemical bonds between reactants allowing them to combine with other substances and
form products (Campbell 100). In this experiment the enzyme used was acid phosphates (ACP), and the substrate was p–nitrophenyl phosphate.
Enzymes are very specific in nature, which helps them in reactions. When an enzyme recognizes its specific substrate, the...show more content...
In this experiment, NaOH was the inhibitor used to stop the enzymatic reactions. NaOH is very basic and when added to a solution, will cause a
drastic increase in pH, causing denaturation of the enzyme. The amount of product formed could be calculated by placing the test tube in a
spectrometer after the addition on NaOH. A spectrometer measures the absorbance of a solution, which helps compare how much of a substance is in a
solution.
I hypothesized that the rate of the reaction would increase, producing more product as the amount of ACP in solution was increased because more
enzymes allow for more substrate to be converted to product. The same hypothesis was made that when we increased the substrate, p–nitrophenyl
phosphate, the amount of product produced would increase as well because there would be more substrate that could bind to the enzyme and be
converted to product. For the environmental experiments, both temperature and pH, I predicted that the amount of product formed would increase with
the temperature and pH, but then begin to decline after the enzymes reached optimal conditions. In other words, at the optimal temperature and pH, the
enzyme velocity would be greatest, producing the most p–nitrophenol. Also, I predicted when the pH and temperature

Evolutionary Biology Essay
Evolutionary Biology:
Global Warming Negatively Affecting Ecosystem's and Organisms Within
Daret Mckay
Sydenham High School
By looking at the evolution of the Earth's climate, we can see that climate change is occurring but more specifically, global warming. Climate change is
occurring as a result of the green house affect, meaning that sunlight's energy and heat is being trapped within the Earth's atmosphere and furthermore
warms the surface of Earth (NASA, n.d.). Evolutionary biology is described to be genetic inheritance (or change) within a population from generation
to generation (Understanding Evolution, 2015). By examining the evolutionary biology of ecosystems and the organisms within it, we will see that

Climate change is altering the pattern of life on the planet, causing widespread species extinction, migration and behavior changes (Suzuki, n.d.).
For example, female caribou migrate in the spring to small pockets of vegetation where they feed and raise there calves, but for the last decade
spring has come so early that by the time the caribou reach the coastal plan, their principle of food plant has already gone to seed (Suzuki, n.d.).
This proves that the female caribou are going to have to change breeding time frames, as well as migration, which will have an overall affect on the
ecosystem. This also means that animals and plants will have to permanently migrate to find suitable habitats but some will not be able to move
fast enough to keep up with the pace of climate change (Suzuki, n.d.). In fact, by saying that it means that some species will have to move 10 times
faster than they did during the last ice age just to survive. Over 30% of land surfaces in Canada will require unrealistically high migration rates to
keep up with projected climate change (Suzuki, n.d.). Another example of this issue is with Collared Lemmings. They are an important prey for
snowy owls, which may lose as much as 60% of their habitat. Loss of tundra habitat could radically reduce the availability of vital breeding habitat for
millions of geese and shore birds (Suzuki, n.d.). In general ecosystems are being destroyed due to

Personal Statement For Molecular Biology
Biology is the science that studies the nature of life. Unlike others, biology is the closest branch of science to the human way of life. Biology has
many specific areas of focus, for example, ecology, entomology, physiology, and molecular biology. In the past, molecular biology was ignored in many
laboratories because it requires expensive tools. Until the instruments become cheaper and the chemicals become more affordable, the importance of
molecular biology will not rise. In studying entomology and ecology, we can use molecular techniques to help identify the sample. In physiology, we
use molecular techniques to track down chemical compounds in the laboratory. These wide varieties of applications of molecular biology is an

I chose to study biotechnology because the subject is more specific and met my personal interests. Moreover, the importance in biotechnology has
been targeted by the Thailand's biotechnology policy framework to sustainably develop the country. Studying biotechnology is also a great
opportunity to extend my understanding of advance molecular technology and the idea of its applications. Then, from thousands of the candidates,
I was selected by Thailand's Ministry of Science and Technology to receive a scholarship to study abroad and return to work as a biotechnology
patent examiner. This is like a dream come true for me. It fulfills my desire to develop my experiences and skills by joining a world class university
course. My knowledge is beneficial to the development of my country. Having our own patent expert could encourage our local researchers to develop
new inventions. Thais could discern the value of their own intellect and respect the rights of others if the patent system in Thailand is reliable from an
international point of view. The nation's market cap would also be extended. The gross domestic income would be increased and the quality of life

Abstract:
This experiment was performed in order to determine the effect of the amount of sugar on Saccharomyces cerevisiae (yeast) fermentation. This was
done by investigating and testing the effect of the amount of sugar upon the yeast fermentation process, and documenting the rate of gas production for
a 25mL by–product. This was completed by mixing solutions, that included 100mL of water, 5g of yeast and a gradual increase in sugar measurements
(2,4,6,8,10g) and attaching the beakers with the solutions in them to plugs and partially submerging them...show more content...

Biology Reflection
As the bell rung for the end of first period, I gathered my things and began to walk to my second period class, Biology. Biology was always to me
the hardest subject I had ever dealt with because there was so much to learn, study, and truly understand. I walked through the door into the classroom
and I'll never forget the words I heard my teacher say that caught me so off–guard. "Get out your notes and study because you have a test today", he
said. As I heard him finish his sentence, my eyes widen and I quickly moved towards my seat and began to skim over my notes as fast as I could. I
had completely forgot that I had a test in biology.
While reading over my notes, I kept thinking to myself that I just knew I was going to fail this test. After a couple of minutes of studying, I heard
the teach yell "5 more minutes". I began to skim even faster over my notes. It felt like time was moving so fast because when I heard my teach yell
"times up", it seemed as if only 2 minutes had passed by. He passed out the answer sheet around the classroom and instructed us to fill out our student
ID numbers. I looked over the unfilled answer sheet and counted the amount of questions. There were 30 questions in total which frightened me even
more because I had to answer 30 questions on information that I barely studied. Then he handed out the test and I became extremely nervous because
not only did I barely study and there were 30 multiple choice questions, but the classroom was so cold that

Biology Of Aging: A Case Study
While biologists in the field of aging, known as biogerontologists, work earnestly to understand and investigate the fundamental biology of aging, there
are anti–aging entrepreneurs capitalizing on vulnerable populations with false promises of longevity and the fountain of youth. In an attempt to educate
the public, and differentiate the pseudoscientists from the legitimate biologists, three scientists published an article stating there was no marketed
intervention that could slow, stop, or reverse the aging process, and cautioned that some products may even be dangerous (Binstock, 2003). An
international roster of 51 physicians and scientists endorsed these biogerontologists in a position statement expressing the biological research that has
been done, and the lack of interventions currently available to slow the progression of aging. The position statement was published in several scientific
journals and a summarized version of this statement was published in the AARP bulletin,...show more content...

Biology Major Essay
My listed major at George Mason University is Government and International Relations. Prior to being an humanities major, I was a biology major.
After switching over to my current major, I continued taking courses in the natural sciences, courses specifically fulfilling the prerequisite courses for
admission into Dental School. I do truly enjoy my current major, but I believe it would be more fitting for this paper to be written from a biology
standpoint. This excerpt will touch on the study of biology, and science subfields and their use in career paths such as Dentistry.
In accordance with Oxfords English Dictionary definition, biology is defined as "The study of living organisms, divided into many specialized fields
that cover their morphology, physiology, anatomy, behavior, origin, and distribution." (Oxford, 1) More specifically to the major itself, according to
George Mason's Biology Department Program Goals and Student Learning Outcomes, the curriculum aims to satisfy the following four program goals:

chemistry, and physics. Even if a student is not a chemistry or physics major, these courses are germane for true progression within the field. As a basis
of comparison and experience, a government and international politics major could not succeed within their field nor career goals without a basic
government 101 courses or an introduction to international relations course. Each subfield within biology focuses on mastering the four program goals
in respect to their concentration, but not before mastery of the prerequisite courses that enable them to do

During the Light Dependent reaction, the suns energy is caught by the chlorophyll molecule, this happens as oxidation. Energy in the form of a
photon is required to increase the energy levels of electrons which move out of the chlorophyll during oxidation. The energy must then be linked to
the ADP reduction to ATP and coenzyme NADP+ which is condensed to NADPH + H+. This reaction requires light for it to take place, where it
occurs on the thylakoid membranes. Energy from the light is converted into chemical energy. The molecules of chlorophyll are then attached to the
thylakoid membranes, which can be attached with accessory pigments and different types of proteins to produce a photo system; in the middle of all
photo systems there are different types of chlorophyll each one has a specialized task to absorb a certain wavelength of light. The Electrons inside of
the chlorophyll absorb the energy produced by the photons and intensifies them so that they are excited. These excited electrons are easily detached
from the chlorophyll in the form of oxidation.
The light dependent reaction is used by the light independent reaction by utilizing the chemical energy from the light to fix the carbon from the
atmosphere natural molecules such as glucose. This process does not need light, which enables it to occur in both the dark and the light periods within
stroma.
The energy trapped from sunlight in the

Biology : A Career In The Career Of Biology
The career I have chosen to research and write about is biology. The study of life ranges across multiple options of different sciences. One who wishes
to follow in a career involving science should consider being a type of biologist. This career will improve social skills and experience in the outside
world. Biology is a great career to some into contact with people, animals, and new discoveries. This essay will highlight key aspects of the career I
have chosen.
The duties of a biologist require multiple sets of different skills. Most biologists have to process any analyzed data and present the research. Another
set of required skills are managing lab technicians and programing computers (Chron.com). Specific types of biologists will need to learn certain
skills to even participate in that field of study. Different types of biologists include wildlife, aquatic, and plant biologists. Each field has different
circumstances of life to study or take care of. The second branch of biology is botany and that specializes in biophysics and genetics (Career Discovery
Encyclopedia, Page 106).
The word biology comes from the prefix bios, meaning life, and logos (word or discourse). The study and practice of biology was first recognized by
Greek philosophers. The first significant contribution to biology was by a man named Alcmaeon. His work would have been published at some point
between 500 and 450 BCE. Alcmaeon was the first to identify the difference between understanding and

This is due to the light's energy needed to separate water into oxygen and hydrogen. This can be proved by the results of the rates of reaction.First of
all, in the lab for the control, which was no light around the subject, there were no bubbles formed by the fresh cut sprig of Elodea in the 5 minutes
it was observed. In the lab for the light being away from the subject 15cm, it was observed that the fresh cut sprig of Elodea formed 72 bubbles of
oxygen in the first trial, while in the second trial it formed 84 bubbles of oxygen. Finally, in the lab with the light being away from the subject 1cm,
it was observed that the fresh cut sprig of elodea formed 104 bubbles of oxygen in the first trial, while in the second trial it formed 193 bubbles of
oxygen. The difference between the control and experimental group is the amount of oxygen bubbles released by the fresh cut sprig of Elodea. As
mentioned earlier, the control group had no bubbles of oxygen formed by the fresh cut sprig of Elodea the 5 minutes it was observed. This is due to
the fresh cut sprig of Elodea not having the energy needed from the light to separate the water into hydrogen and oxygen. If it were to actually have
light around it, it would separate water into hydrogen and oxygen, and form small oxygen bubbles, just like the many oxygen bubbles the experimental

Elodea Essay

  • 1. Elodea Essay Elodea will only survive when grown below the water's surface. When left out of water, elodea will shrivel up and die. Its small white flowers are the only part of the plant that will flourish out of water, and these emerge in late summer. Elodea spreads and propagates when portions of the stem break away from the parent plant and form new plants . Soil Elodea grows in most soils but prefers a sandy sediment that's rich in minerals and has a neutral ph. The stems extend from a fibrous root system which stabilizes the plant in the soil at the bottom of the pond. The root system pulls nutrients from the soil to nourish the elodea. Free–floating stems eventually form roots that anchor to the soil, allowing the plant Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Biology Is The Science Of Life Biology Tania Espinoza–Flores Abstract Biology is the study of life. Biology talks about organisms and how they react to certain toxins, when you mix things up. There are nine fields in biology. Some examples of the fields are evolutionary biology, cellular biology, and molecularbiology. Biology has a long history. Biology is beneficial in many ways. Biology has impacted people in negative and positive ways. People who study biology are called biologists. Biology, the Science of Life Biology has a long history. Early humans would study biology. They had to study the animals that they hunted, and they had to know where to find the plants that they gathered for food. Biology is the study of life. Biology comes from Greek words. There are nine fields in biology. Some of the nine...show more content... It is the organisms that work to create new things. An organism is an individual animal, plant, or single–celled life form. All organisms come together and create something new. The organisms take energy from the environment, and from the food they eat. The new organisms that the old ones created will soon make new organisms. This forms a cycle. The cycle never ends until something bad happens to the organisms. An easy way of saying all of this is by saying that the cycle continues until something bad happens to the organisms. Biologists are the important scientists of biology. Biologists study the structure, function, growth, origin, evolution, and distribution of living organisms. Biologists study living organisms. For example, they study humans, plants, animals, and many other living organisms. When they study these organisms, they find out many things about life and they study the medicine that we use, so they can know what types of ways we will react to the medicine. People from long ago, would use biology to study the animals that they hunted, and the plants they ate. Indeed, biologists are very important to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Breakthroughs In Biotechnology Research Biotechnology to extend age in humans Biotechnology is used everyday to change life, as we know it. In fact, people don't realize that early humans used biotechnology 10,000 years ago. Early humans were producing beer, wine, bread, and yogurt by means of fermentation. Biotechnology is any technique that uses organisms or their products to make a new product, to improve the life of humans or to develop microorganisms for specific scientific uses (Paul Cooley, 2014). As early as 1500 BC humans were storing plants with certain traits such as disease resistance in order to selectively breed certain plants with certain traits to better their lives (Jeffrey Kruck–Langland, 1999). A huge breakthrough inbiotechnology was the creation of penicillin in 1942 (Paul Cooley 2014). This was a huge breakthrough and it save a lot of lives from disease during World War II. According to Paul Cooley (2014) in 1980 biotechnology was used to rid the world of smallpox. Much disease such as breast cancer has been discovered through biotechnology such as breast cancer and Parkinson's disease (Paul Cooley, 2014). They found these diseases to be gene related. In 1997 a sheep was cloned from a single adult cell through biotechnology (Paul, Cooley, 2014). Biotechnology has been a very important part in many ways to human life, but most people do not realize that Biotechnology may extend human life and create a better world of organisms. Biotechnology affects agriculture, the energy used to power Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Essay on Ecology Ecology An organism has several ways to avoid being prated upon. One way to avoid this is to practice crptis. Crypis is the action of organisms avoiding predation by blending in with their backgrounds and matching the color pattern of a bark, twigs or leaves. Palatable animals often utilize this strategy as well. Another type of defense is aposematism or warning coloratio. Organisms that produce noxious chemicals or accumalate them from food plants, advertise the fact that they are harmful with conspicous color patterns. Mimicry is the resemblence of an organism toward some other organism or an object inthe enviroment, evolved to decieve predators or prey into confuding the organism with that which it mimics. The prey involved within...show more content... These hypothesis are based on the assumption that the birds realized that the red larvae are more tasteful , while the blue and lime larvae were often distasteful. The focus of this experiment is to find out whether or not mimicry developed and whether the birds either learnt from the effects of mimicry or caught on to the color pattern. Materials and Methods The procedure that was utilize from this experiment was very time consuming and involved an assortment of small procedures. The first step was to decide upon the different colors of the food, and which speculate on whch colors would be most efficient for the experiment. In our case we choose red, which represented a kind of dangerous color, blue which was still dangerous but a little more attractive than red and lime which seemed like a nice friendly color. After than the ratios between the models were agreed upon based upon what we thought the colors would represent toward the birds. The pattern that was used is pattern A. The red color had 100% mimicry, (palatable) and 0% for models (unpalatable). The blue color had 75% mimicry (palatable) and 25% for models (unpalatable). The lime had 25% mimicry and 75% for models (unpalatable). After that decision making the class broke up into different groups to facilitate the larvae making process. The class divided into mixers, cutters, those that Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Enzymes Essay Introduction: Enzymes are an important part of all metabolic reactions in the body. They are catalytic proteins, able to increase the rate of a reaction, without being consumed in the process of doing so (Campbell 96). This allows the enzyme to be used again in another reaction. Enzymes speed up reactions by lowering the activation energy, the energy needed to break the chemical bonds between reactants allowing them to combine with other substances and form products (Campbell 100). NaOH is very basic and when added to a solution, will cause a drastic increase in pH, causing denaturation of the enzyme. The amount of product formed could be calculated by placing the test tube in a spectrometer after the addition on NaOH. A spectrometer measures the absorbance of a solution, which helps compare how much of a substance is in a solution. I hypothesized that the rate of the reaction would increase, producing more product as the amount of ACP in solution was increased because more enzymes allow for more substrate to be converted to product. The same hypothesis was made that when we increased the substrate, p–nitrophenyl phosphate, the amount of product produced would increase as well because there would be more substrate that could bind to the enzyme and be converted to product. For the environmental experiments, both temperature and pH, I predicted that the amount of product formed would increase with the temperature and pH, but then begin to decline after the enzymes reached optimal conditions. In other words, at the optimal temperature and pH, the enzyme velocity would be greatest, producing the most p–nitrophenol. Also, I predicted when the pH and temperature Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 9. Evolutionary Biology Essay Evolutionary Biology: Global Warming Negatively Affecting Ecosystem's and Organisms Within Daret Mckay Sydenham High School By looking at the evolution of the Earth's climate, we can see that climate change is occurring but more specifically, global warming. Climate change is occurring as a result of the green house affect, meaning that sunlight's energy and heat is being trapped within the Earth's atmosphere and furthermore warms the surface of Earth (NASA, n.d.). Evolutionary biology is described to be genetic inheritance (or change) within a population from generation to generation (Understanding Evolution, 2015). By examining the evolutionary biology of ecosystems and the organisms within it, we will see that global...show more content... Climate change is altering the pattern of life on the planet, causing widespread species extinction, migration and behavior changes (Suzuki, n.d.). For example, female caribou migrate in the spring to small pockets of vegetation where they feed and raise there calves, but for the last decade spring has come so early that by the time the caribou reach the coastal plan, their principle of food plant has already gone to seed (Suzuki, n.d.). This proves that the female caribou are going to have to change breeding time frames, as well as migration, which will have an overall affect on the ecosystem. This also means that animals and plants will have to permanently migrate to find suitable habitats but some will not be able to move fast enough to keep up with the pace of climate change (Suzuki, n.d.). In fact, by saying that it means that some species will have to move 10 times faster than they did during the last ice age just to survive. Over 30% of land surfaces in Canada will require unrealistically high migration rates to keep up with projected climate change (Suzuki, n.d.). Another example of this issue is with Collared Lemmings. They are an important prey for snowy owls, which may lose as much as 60% of their habitat. Loss of tundra habitat could radically reduce the availability of vital breeding habitat for millions of geese and shore birds (Suzuki, n.d.). In general ecosystems are being destroyed due to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Personal Statement For Molecular Biology Biology is the science that studies the nature of life. Unlike others, biology is the closest branch of science to the human way of life. Biology has many specific areas of focus, for example, ecology, entomology, physiology, and molecular biology. In the past, molecular biology was ignored in many laboratories because it requires expensive tools. Until the instruments become cheaper and the chemicals become more affordable, the importance of molecular biology will not rise. In studying entomology and ecology, we can use molecular techniques to help identify the sample. In physiology, we use molecular techniques to track down chemical compounds in the laboratory. These wide varieties of applications of molecular biology is an important reason...show more content... I chose to study biotechnology because the subject is more specific and met my personal interests. Moreover, the importance in biotechnology has been targeted by the Thailand's biotechnology policy framework to sustainably develop the country. Studying biotechnology is also a great opportunity to extend my understanding of advance molecular technology and the idea of its applications. Then, from thousands of the candidates, I was selected by Thailand's Ministry of Science and Technology to receive a scholarship to study abroad and return to work as a biotechnology patent examiner. This is like a dream come true for me. It fulfills my desire to develop my experiences and skills by joining a world class university course. My knowledge is beneficial to the development of my country. Having our own patent expert could encourage our local researchers to develop new inventions. Thais could discern the value of their own intellect and respect the rights of others if the patent system in Thailand is reliable from an international point of view. YEAR 11 BIOLOGY EXTENDED EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION (EEI) SEMESTER 2, 2015 Investigating the Relationship between Sugar Concentrations and Yeast Fermentation SOPHIE RICHARDS 11A MRS KIRK Abstract: This experiment was performed in order to determine the effect of the amount of sugar on Saccharomyces cerevisiae (yeast) fermentation. This was done by investigating and testing the effect of the amount of sugar upon the yeast fermentation process, and documenting the rate of gas production for a 25mL by–product. This was completed by mixing solutions, that included 100mL of water, 5g of yeast and a gradual increase in sugar measurements (2,4,6,8,10g) and attaching the beakers with the solutions in them to plugs and partially submerging them...show more content... • 12. Biology Reflection As the bell rung for the end of first period, I gathered my things and began to walk to my second period class, Biology. Biology was always to me the hardest subject I had ever dealt with because there was so much to learn, study, and truly understand. I walked through the door into the classroom and I'll never forget the words I heard my teacher say that caught me so off–guard. "Get out your notes and study because you have a test today", he said. As I heard him finish his sentence, my eyes widen and I quickly moved towards my seat and began to skim over my notes as fast as I could. I had completely forgot that I had a test in biology. While reading over my notes, I kept thinking to myself that I just knew I was going to fail this test. After a couple of minutes of studying, I heard the teach yell "5 more minutes". I began to skim even faster over my notes. It felt like time was moving so fast because when I heard my teach yell "times up", it seemed as if only 2 minutes had passed by. He passed out the answer sheet around the classroom and instructed us to fill out our student ID numbers. I looked over the unfilled answer sheet and counted the amount of questions. There were 30 questions in total which frightened me even more because I had to answer 30 questions on information that I barely studied. Then he handed out the test and I became extremely nervous because not only did I barely study and there were 30 multiple choice questions, but the classroom was so cold that Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Biology Of Aging: A Case Study While biologists in the field of aging, known as biogerontologists, work earnestly to understand and investigate the fundamental biology of aging, there are anti–aging entrepreneurs capitalizing on vulnerable populations with false promises of longevity and the fountain of youth. In an attempt to educate the public, and differentiate the pseudoscientists from the legitimate biologists, three scientists published an article stating there was no marketed intervention that could slow, stop, or reverse the aging process, and cautioned that some products may even be dangerous (Binstock, 2003). An international roster of 51 physicians and scientists endorsed these biogerontologists in a position statement expressing the biological research that has been done, and the lack of interventions currently available to slow the progression of aging. The position statement was published in several scientific journals and a summarized version of this statement was published in the AARP bulletin,...show more content... This paper will explore the ethical dilemma of speaking up or staying silent when patients bring their dreams of turning back the clock to the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. Biology Major Essay My listed major at George Mason University is Government and International Relations. Prior to being an humanities major, I was a biology major. After switching over to my current major, I continued taking courses in the natural sciences, courses specifically fulfilling the prerequisite courses for admission into Dental School. I do truly enjoy my current major, but I believe it would be more fitting for this paper to be written from a biology standpoint. This excerpt will touch on the study of biology, and science subfields and their use in career paths such as Dentistry. In accordance with Oxfords English Dictionary definition, biology is defined as "The study of living organisms, divided into many specialized fields that cover their morphology, physiology, anatomy, behavior, origin, and distribution." (Oxford, 1) More specifically to the major itself, according to George Mason's Biology Department Program Goals and Student Learning Outcomes, the curriculum aims to satisfy the following four program goals: "Knowledge of biology, Knowledge of field and laboratory...show more content... Similar to other academic fields, each specialty and subfield requires students to fulfill the basic prerequisite courses, such as chemistry, organic chemistry, and physics. Even if a student is not a chemistry or physics major, these courses are germane for true progression within the field. As a basis of comparison and experience, a government and international politics major could not succeed within their field nor career goals without a basic government 101 courses or an introduction to international relations course. Each subfield within biology focuses on mastering the four program goals in respect to their concentration, but not before mastery of the prerequisite courses that enable them to do Get more content on HelpWriting.net

During the Light Dependent reaction, the suns energy is caught by the chlorophyll molecule, this happens as oxidation. Energy in the form of a photon is required to increase the energy levels of electrons which move out of the chlorophyll during oxidation. The energy must then be linked to the ADP reduction to ATP and coenzyme NADP+ which is condensed to NADPH + H+. This reaction requires light for it to take place, where it occurs on the thylakoid membranes. Energy from the light is converted into chemical energy. The molecules of chlorophyll are then attached to the thylakoid membranes, which can be attached with accessory pigments and different types of proteins to produce a photo system; in the middle of all photo systems there are different types of chlorophyll each one has a specialized task to absorb a certain wavelength of light. The Electrons inside of the chlorophyll absorb the energy produced by the photons and intensifies them so that they are excited. These excited electrons are easily detached from the chlorophyll in the form of oxidation. The light dependent reaction is used by the light independent reaction by utilizing the chemical energy from the light to fix the carbon from the atmosphere natural molecules such as glucose. This process does not need light, which enables it to occur in both the dark and the light periods within stroma.

  • 17. Biology : A Career In The Career Of Biology The career I have chosen to research and write about is biology. The study of life ranges across multiple options of different sciences. One who wishes to follow in a career involving science should consider being a type of biologist. This career will improve social skills and experience in the outside world. Biology is a great career to some into contact with people, animals, and new discoveries. This essay will highlight key aspects of the career I have chosen. The duties of a biologist require multiple sets of different skills. Most biologists have to process any analyzed data and present the research. Another set of required skills are managing lab technicians and programing computers (Chron.com). Specific types of biologists will need to learn certain skills to even participate in that field of study. Different types of biologists include wildlife, aquatic, and plant biologists. Each field has different circumstances of life to study or take care of. The second branch of biology is botany and that specializes in biophysics and genetics (Career Discovery Encyclopedia, Page 106). The word biology comes from the prefix bios, meaning life, and logos (word or discourse). The study and practice of biology was first recognized by Greek philosophers. The first significant contribution to biology was by a man named Alcmaeon. His work would have been published at some point between 500 and 450 BCE. Alcmaeon was the first to identify the difference between understanding and Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 19. Photosynthesis: Fresh Cut Sprig Of Elodea PHOTOSYNTHESIS LAB REPORT Arleen Mendoza 01.29.2017 9TH GRADE BIOLOGY BACKGROUND RESEARCH During photosynthesis, the section that is light dependent stage is in the thylakoids in the Mitochondria of a plant cell, while the light independent stage is in the stroma of the Mitochondria of a plant cell, specifically named the Calvin cycle. The light dependent and light independent stage work together to perform photosynthesis. The light independent gives ATP and NADPH to the light independent stage. In return, the light independent stage gives the light dependent stage NADP+ and ADP. The light dependent stage works in the thylakoids of the Mitochondria in a plant cell. It starts off by light energy being absorbed by photosystem II,...show more content... This is due to the light's energy needed to separate water into oxygen and hydrogen. This can be proved by the results of the rates of reaction.First of all, in the lab for the control, which was no light around the subject, there were no bubbles formed by the fresh cut sprig of Elodea in the 5 minutes it was observed. In the lab for the light being away from the subject 15cm, it was observed that the fresh cut sprig of Elodea formed 72 bubbles of oxygen in the first trial, while in the second trial it formed 84 bubbles of oxygen. Finally, in the lab with the light being away from the subject 1cm, it was observed that the fresh cut sprig of elodea formed 104 bubbles of oxygen in the first trial, while in the second trial it formed 193 bubbles of oxygen. The difference between the control and experimental group is the amount of oxygen bubbles released by the fresh cut sprig of Elodea. As mentioned earlier, the control group had no bubbles of oxygen formed by the fresh cut sprig of Elodea the 5 minutes it was observed. This is due to the fresh cut sprig of Elodea not having the energy needed from the light to separate the water into hydrogen and oxygen. If it were to actually have light around it, it would separate water into hydrogen and oxygen, and form small oxygen bubbles, just like the many oxygen bubbles the experimental group Get more content on HelpWriting.net
