1. WORLD VISION ETHIOPIA FOOD CRISIS AND DROUGHT
EMERGENCY RESPONSE | SNAPSHOT MAY 2016 (as of 03 May 2016)
World Vision Ethiopia is responding to the worst food crisis and drought in three decades through a child-focused, holistic, integrated
approach including promoting local food production and disaster mitigation, water system rehabilitation and construction, health and
nutrition intervention, protection of and promotion of sustainable livelihoods (primarily agricultural), training/education, and food
distributions. According to UN OCHA (as of March 2016), the Food Security Nutrition Working Group reported that close to 19.5 million
people in East Africa region are facing critical and emergency food insecurity levels. Ethiopia shares the biggest affected population as it is
estimated that 10.2 million people in Ethiopia are requiring food assistance. This number is in addition to the 8 million people said to be
already receiving food assistance from the Ethiopian Government’s Productive Safety Net Program.
