This document appears to be an assignment for an MGT 301 class that involves analyzing articles and applying them to management functions. The assignment asks students to cite an article, summarize it in 1-2 paragraphs, and answer questions about how it relates to course materials, the key details of the article based on the 5W1H framework, the most important detail, its impact, and the sources used. It also asks for a personal reaction and is graded based on a rubric evaluating the content, organization, grammar/style/mechanics, and application of examples to management functions.

If I had to approach a culturally appropriate weight loss
intervention for my culturally/ethnic heritage, I would start by
mentioning the amount of calories that are in fast food. I would
try to see if we could make the same food but healthier. For
example, I would see if we could use cauliflower crust instead
of pizza dough for pizzas. Also I would consider making
cauliflower wings instead of chicken wings, or baked chicken
instead of fried. That way we can still eat the same food, just
slightly different.

There have been major dietary shifts in human evolution from
cultural innovation. This is mainly based on the way we cook
food or where the food comes from (ie. meat, how was the
animal raised?). My eating habits are probably much different
than my ancestors. Although, there are some similarities I have
with my Irish ancestors. When most people think of a staple
food from Ireland they think of potatoes. Potatoes are quite
starchy, depending on how you prepare them. It is best to avoid
them if you are planning to follow a low-carb-diet. Obesity
rates in Ireland are high. Obesity can lead to type 2 diabetes,
heart disease, and respiratory problems. Losing weight and
improving your health is a psychological process. Addressing
the effects of obesity and its underlying conditions is key to
help people change. Being able to build mental strength, keep
people motivated, and changing their habits can be a success for
those changing their behavior and eating habits. In the end,
losing weight is mind over body.

It is no secret that cost has been a major topic of discussion in
healthcare for quite some time. Cost influences almost if not all
other issues in healthcare policy. One of the most significant
cost barriers is prescription costs and coverage. Regulating
prescription drug costs is necessary in order to ensure that all
Americans have access to life saving medications as well as
medications that can improve their overall quality of life. This
is imperative not only to ensure the health and wellbeing of
7. American citizens but would also be more fiscally responsible
by reducing rates of chronic disease and the associated
healthcare costs. More transparency is needed from
pharmaceutical companies and health insurance companies when
it comes to drug cost determinations. Policy reform is required
in order to protect the American people by ensuring prescription
drugs are available to everyone. This can also be considered an
issue of having access to healthcare, another very important
issue facing our modern-day healthcare system. Even after the
implementation of the Affordable Care Act, millions of
American remain uninsured or under insured. The Healthy
People Midcourse Review (Access to Health Services | Healthy
People 2020, n.d.) identified significant disparities in access to
care with sex, age, race, ethnicity, education, and family
income. This was not only relating to insurance coverage, but
also access to primary care. Rural areas seem to be most
impacted with limited access to primary care due to a deficit in
trained medical professionals. In order to overcome the
obstacle, healthcare workers and practitioners should be
incentivized to practice in these underserved areas and also to
specialize in primary care.

Cost and Quality

8. I am writing about cost and quality and what underlies as an
importance within these in the healthcare system. Although
access to healthcare is very important in offering proper
services in certain areas of a community, this wouldn't be
possible if the cost of the care wasn't affordable and the quality
wasn't good enough to create an effect in the communities
health. As noted in our book, the U.S. may seem to provide
good care, but they are actually the lowest developed and spend
more on healthcare for individuals than other countries do. We
can have access to healthcare but without people being properly
treated, the outcome of creating a healthier environment wont
happen because the cause isn't being fixed. This can also go
along with the cost of services for spending on individuals. If
the quality of care and correct services were attributed in the
beginning, theres potential for less money to be spent because
the patient wont need to come back. Within the quality of care,
we look at things like safety, efficacy, patient-centeredness,
time, efficiency, and equity. Being able to provide proper care
and give it in a timely manner is also important.
U.S. healthcare costs may be so high because the hospitals don't
know to efficiently work with the resources they have and
delegate them to the needed areas. When we look at costs of
things we know that it doesn't just come down to the cost of
services. We have to take a look at those who have insurance
and those who don't.
