or small groups. Each student must choose a card and form
a sentence using the simple present verb tense.
2. You could also divide the class into two teams and play
charades with these cards (have students take turns miming
the actions for their groups to guess). Group members
must call out their guesses using the simple present tense
(e.g. “Eat breakfast!”). You could also use this activity to
practise the present progressive tense: “You are cooking!”
Assessment Tools
You will find an assessment and self-assessment tool at the
end of the lesson. You can assess your students as they work
through the skill-using activities, or you can use the flashcards or
one of the tasks to create your own summative assessment for
this theme based on the criteria provided. Hand out the self-
assessment tool at the end of the unit and have your students
reflect on their own learning.

You could also divide the class into two teams and play charades with these cards (have students take turns miming the actions for their groups to guess). Group members must call out their guesses using the simple present tense (e.g. “Eat breakfast!”). You could also use this activity to practise the present progressive tense: “You are cooking!” Assessment Tools You will find an assessment and self-assessment tool at the end of the lesson. You can assess your students as they work through the skill-using activities, or you can use the flashcards or one of the tasks to create your own summative assessment for this theme based on the criteria provided. Hand out the self- assessment tool at the end of the unit and have your students reflect on their own learning.
