Menurut bahasa,
mad ()مد berarti “panjang”.
Sedangkan menurut istilah
ilmu tajwid, mad adalah
memanjangkan bacaan suatu
huruf menurut aturan-aturan
tertentu di dalam membaca Al-
Qur’an

1. Mad Aṣli atau mad Ṭabī’i
2. Mad Far’i. Mad far’i terdiri dari:

ضَوِع ْدَم)
Bacaan mad ‘iwaḍ ialah apabila ada fathatain (ً ) pada
huruf akhir yang diwaqafkan. Disebut mad ‘iwaḍ karena sebagai
pengganti tanwin sehingga tidak berbunyi lagi tanwinnya. Cara
membacanya ialah dibaca panjang 1 alif atau 2 harakat.
Contoh :
ااج َوْفَا dibaca اَجا َوْفَا
ًااب َّوَت dibaca اَبا َّوَت
ًاحْدَق dibaca اَحْدَق
9. 2. Mad Layyin ( ْنِيَل ْدَم)
Mad secara bahasa artinya panjang, dan layyin
artinya lunak/elastis. Secara istilah ilmu tajwid,
mad layyin adalah apabila ada harakat fathah yang
diikuti wawu atau ya’ sukun. Panjang bacaannya
yaitu ½ alif (1 Harakat/ketukan)

10. 3. Mad ‘Āriḍ Lis Sukūn ( ن ْوكُّسلل ْ
ض ِ
َارع ْدَم)
Mad ‘āriḍ lis sukūn ialah apabila terdapat huruf mad kemudian
sesudahnya ada huruf hidup dalam satu kata, namun dibaca mati karena
diwaqafkan.
Adapun cara membacanya ada 3 cara, yaitu:
a. Utama = dibaca panjang 3 alif atau 6 harakat
b. Sedang = dibaca panjang 2 alif atau 4 harakat
c. Biasa = dibaca panjang 1 alif atau 2 harakat seperti mad ṭabī‘i. Contoh:
