from the Principal
We are thankful for all of the students, parents, family members, friends, faculty, and alumni who have cheered on and encouraged our Raiders and
worked together to make this night possible! We invite you to continue to join us throughout the year in celebrating our students at SCPS events!
Go Raiders!
Beth Straight, Principal
Welcome parents, students, and fans to the 2023 football season for Savannah Christian Preparatory
School. Our student-athletes and coaches have worked hard in preparation for this season, and I am
excited to see them compete this year. Although our athletes and coaches take front and center during
the season, I am reminded that it takes the efforts of many to put a successful team on the field. I am
thankful to our administration, our faculty, our student body, our trainers and support staff, our facilities
team, our Booster Club, our alumni, and, of course, our parents and families that lend their support to
our Raider athletes.
from the Head of School
Raider Nation,
Athletics brings a community together in a unique way that creates great memories for all involved. Seeing our students learn valuable life lessons
such as winning with humility and grace, losing with pride and dignity, and competing with honor and respect hopefully serves as a reminder to all
of us as to the foundational purpose of athletics in a school like Savannah Christain. I encourage each of us to make the most of this year while
enjoying the competitions, maximizing the relationships, and embracing the opportunities for growth.
I Corinthians 10:31 reads, "Whatever you do, do it all to the glory of God." I am honored to begin my 19th year at SCPS, where we work each day in
partnership with families to fulfill the school's mission to develop the whole person to the glory of God. This mission is embodied in our students' lives
academically, athletically, artistically, and in service to the Lord. In addition, through participation in activities such as tonight's game, we pray that
students will learn positive lessons in teamwork, sportsmanship, determination, communication, hard work, and respect for others that they will
incorporate in their walk as Christians and will use in the future to benefit their communities.
Thank you for your support of SCPS, and Go Raiders!!
Jeff Plunk
Head of School
4. Welcome home Raider Nation! On behalf of the Savannah Christian Athletic Department, I am
thrilled to celebrate another exciting year for Raider Athletics!
My family and I are excited for the opportunity to join the Savannah Christian community and
wear the red and white. Over the last 11 years, I have been deeply invested in Christian school
athletics. During my time, God blessed me with the opportunity to serve in a number of capacities
including teacher, coach, and administrator.
from the ATHLETIC DIRECTOR
Athletics provides an extremely unique platform for lifelong learning through failures and successes. It is my goal to provide our student-
athletes at SCPS with an opportunity to grow as children of God through these athletic experiences. I am humbled to be a part of this
community and serve as the Director of Athletics at SCPS.
The mission of Savannah Christian Athletics is to provide a competitive, Christ-centered sports program that challenges our student-
athletes spiritually, mentally, and physically. Our entire school family works diligently to provide those opportunities through 19 GHSA
programs at the middle school, junior varsity, and varsity levels.
The SCPS Athletic Department encourages family, friends, and alumni to support our student-athletes and coaches during the 2023-24
seasons!
Go Raiders,
Greg Phillips, Athletic Director
5. Dear Raider Family,
My family and I are excited to see what God has in store for this football season. We are a
football family, and we realize the importance football has in molding young men. At Savannah
Christian, we strive to use football as a vessel to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
from the COACH
Our program philosophy is "Attack with Purpose." We want the Raiders to remember this philosophy for their entire life, not just their years
at Savannah Christian. "Attack with Purpose" comes from Colossians 3:23. "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart as working for
the Lord and not for human masters." This is about having your heart in the right place and doing things for the right reasons. We know
football is hard, but so is life. The most important thing is that, through this life, our Raiders draw from a higher power than themselves.
Secondly, this is the 52nd team in Raider Football history. I can't wait to see what this team is going to accomplish. Each year we pick one
word to focus on. I believe the one word and scripture attached to the word has significantly impacted our football team's culture. Team
51's word was Family, and they accomplished so much more than just an 11-2 record. I believe they learned lessons that will stick with
them for the rest of their life, and they will always remember that a "friend loves at all times, but a brother is born for adversity." Team
52's motto for the 2023 season will be COURAGE! It comes from 2 Timothy 1:7" For the Spirit of God does not make you timid but gives
you love, power, and self-discipline." I pray that Team 52's players and coaches do the absolute best job they can and have COURAGE in
pursuit of God's plan for their life. It's not for just 4 years, not for the next 40, but for eternity.
Lastly, we cannot perform to our fullest potential without the cheers of our Raider fan base. We appreciate the cheers from our
cheerleaders, the music from our band, the support of the Raider Athletic Booster Club, and the roar of the Raider faithful. It's a great day
to be a Raider!
Go Raiders,
Baker Woodward
6. I am so excited to be the athletic trainer at Savannah Christian Preparatory School. I am
passionate about providing the highest quality healthcare and doing everything I can to help
keep the athletes healthy and on the field. I was a high school athlete that suffered an injury
that eventually ended my volleyball career, so I have a deep understanding of the physical
and mental pain and stress that athletic injuries can cause. I also understand the importance
of having an accurate diagnosis of an injury so that an appropriate treatment plan can be
established, and the athlete can begin a rehabilitation plan that will result in a timely return
to play. I also know the challenges of being a high school student and an athlete at the same
time, even without an injury. I am here to support the student athletes in any way that I canโ
physically, mentally, and emotionally. Iโll be their biggest fan and a shoulder to cry on. I value
each of the athletes and care about them deeply. I canโt wait to see them succeed, on the
field and court, in the classroom, in life, and beyond. Whatever you need, I am here for you!
Athletic Trainers are board-certified and state-licensed healthcare professionals that work in
a multitude of settings, including secondary schools, colleges, the military, professional
sports, hospital systems, clinics, and even with the performing arts industry. They use
evidence-based practices to provide the highest level of care possible. Athletic Trainers
receive extensive education on the prevention of injuries and the promotion of healthy living.
They also trained in clinical examinations and diagnosis, the acute care of injury and illness,
brace fitting, therapeutic interventions, taping, psychosocial strategies and referrals, and
health care administration. Athletic Trainers are required to complete professional
development hours each year to stay current on the latest trends in healthcare to provide the
best care possible to the athletes they serve.

Team 52's motto for the 2023 season will be COURAGE! I pray that Team 52's players and coaches do the absolute best job
they can and have COURAGE in pursuit of God's plan for their life. Our coaching staff believes that God has a plan for each
and every player on our team, and our job as coaches is to get our team to seek out God's plan for their life with fearless
pursuit. We know that the only fear we should have is a fear of God, and any other fear we may have does not come from
God but from this world. God has a plan for us all, and His spirit enables us to have COURAGE. It's not for just four years,
not for the next 40, but for eternity.
