Program Overview
Our program is designed to offer hope to the refugees who have come to the United
States seeking freedom from the oppressed conditions in Southeast Asia. It is estimated that
80 percent of all refugees are women and children; therefore, we provide a vast number of
services specifically tailored to that group. Since these refugees are accustomed to living in
refugee camps, one of the first services our organization assists with is housing. We work
in cooperation with several apartment complexes in the DFW area who have partnered with
the City of Dallas to provide housing for the refugees. Our organization assists with the ne-
cessities of a home including furniture, food and clothing. We strive to keep families in tact
(parents and children) so as not to cause further disruption of normalcy for the refugees.
Our organization prides itself in being a catalyst to assist refugees with their physi-
cal, spiritual and emotional needs. Our goal is to introduce them to a better standard of
living while acclimating them to life in a free country. We offer literacy, life skills and job
training classes, and mentorship through the Exteem Group, along with counseling to each
refugee. Our training is designed to enable them to become productive citizens. Our ser-
vices also include a staffing agency which assists clients to obtain jobs so they can take care
of themselves. This program is provided to the participants at no charge and classes are
conducted at our office at 7610 Stemmons Freeway, Ste. 690, Dallas, Texas. All activities are
planned and supervised by our program director, who will dedicate 100% of her time to this
venture.
Currently we service between 100 and 200 clients. Our long term goal is to reach at
least a third of the new arrivals in the DFW area. Clients are identified through partner-
ships with the Catholic Charities and the Refugee Services Agency of Dallas. Currently we
do not advertise our services; however, we may do so in the future.
Our program assists both male and female refugees. We strive to work with the entire
family but once the family is settled, we place specific interest on the students. Our pro-
gram works with the various school districts (i.e., Dallas ISD, Garland ISD), to ensure that
students are placed in classes proportionate with their skills. We also offer ESL and GED
classes. Our agency assists refugees without regard to race, religion, nationality, political
opinion or membership in a particular social group, sexual preference, disability
