Headline: Eco-friendly Ganesha
Strap: Five young school children from Hyderabad & Naandi sec–bad join hands to spread the message

For these five children’s, it's all about making the grand festival of Ganesh Chaturthi as eco-
friendly as possible. To contribute towards the environment at the same time carrying forward the devotion
towards the Lord, TWIGG (Together We Initiate a Green Globe) will organise an eco-friendly Ganeshotsav,
2010. Local Mahila samakya has also joined this initiative.
Prashanthi, . Sucharetha, .Prashanth, .Keerthi Bhavani and CH. Shivaprasad, five children’s
from Kavadiguda had come together with the aim of conserving the environment. To begin with, the girls
initiated this project of eco-friendly Ganesha. And this year, they have another Mahilasamakya from
Kavadiguda who will also create awareness on this topic.
Both the groups intend to achieve their goals by means of conducting exhibition, workshops,
street plays and discussion during the month of September. Also, during the festival of Ganesh Chaturthi, they
will hold competitions for eco-friendly Ganesha mandals. "We are conducting a 'Best eco-friendly Ganesha
mandal competition' and 'Best eco-friendly household Ganeshotsav competition'. For this, people can directly
get in touch with us on “GPS Kavadiguda" informed Sucharetha.
Seconds Rajeshwari of Mahilasamakya:,
"Our objective is creating awareness about eco-friendly Ganeshas. We shall also inform the
masses about the sources from where they can buy these eco-friendly Ganesha idols." The groups will also
hold a travelling exhibition of eco-friendly Ganesha idols and a workshop where they will teach how to make a
Ganesha idol with clay. For this, societies need to contact them and they will help promote the alternatives of
Plaster of Paris Ganesha idols.
All these activities will be carried out in Kavadigud and Bible house.

Rules of Ganeshotsav competitions
Photograph of one member is mandatory along with complete forms
Mandals and the household Ganeshotsav participants have to use natural material for decoration, like plants,
trees, flowers, clay, mud and sand
Artificial and other material which are not bio-degradable like thermocol, plastic cannot be used for decoration
If the Ganesha mandals conduct shows and installation giving knowledge about the environment and
measures to reduce global warming, they will be given extra points
The organisers will check the level of sound pollution caused due to loudspeakers and accordingly, marks will
2. be deducted if they go beyond permissible limits
For household eco-friendly Ganeshotsav competition, participants will have to send a message to our address
The organizers will come to the participant's house to judge.
