Charles Darwin was an English naturalist born in 1809 in Shrewsbury, England. He studied medicine at Edinburgh University but realized he could not watch operations, so he then studied to become a minister at Christ's College, Cambridge. Although he gave up on becoming a minister, he continued his studies in botany and collected beetles. Darwin is most famous for presenting compelling evidence in his writings that all species of life have evolved over time from common ancestors through natural selection.
