Next generation operating
room
As the focus on sterility concerns, surgery outcome, higher efficiency, faster
workflow and ease of use continues to increase, surgeons have to rely on
user friendly and reliable equipment in the operating room. The realisation
of these requirements in the operating room is still not achieved.
Do you want the holistic product/solution that solves the problems in the
focus areas?
Say hello to Sterile Hospital Suite (SHS). This suite provides an integrated
solution to sterility concerns by combining touchless interactive screen,
wireless electrosurgical knife and wireless laparoscopic camera, controlled
by one single sterile control unit (SCU).
“The Sterile
Hospital Suite
can really help
us simplify and
streamline our work-
flow. It has all the
necessary tools for
the complete
sterile surgery.
It’s a real time saver
for the surgeon.”

Cost effectiveness: reduced
surgery duration resulting in
cost reduction.
Highest sterility condition
yet: maximum safety for
patient.
Better surgery outcome: holistic
combination of state-of-the-art
technologies.
Ochestrated workflow: surgeon
can focus on core activities by
removing non-value added tasks.

3. 3
An Integrated Solution is proposed for a sterile hospital suite. The suite is designed for
maximum sterility, high efficiency, well-organized structure and ease of use.
Cordless technology together with human-interface interactive technology i.e. casual
wear solution are appropriate examples for this type of solution. This ensures a
seamless integration between the Touchless Interaction Screen (TIS), Wireless Laparo-
scopic Camera (WLC) and the Wireless Electrosurgical Knife (WEK).
All of them contribute significantly to an overall positive impact on the sterility.
Consequently, efficiency, structure and ease of use during the operation in a sterile
hospital surgery suite are positively influenced.
For completion a centralized control unit linking all three suite components is essential.
This unit is controlled by the SCU (sterile control unit, red ‘box’). SCU can be compared
with a control tower at the airport: guide and control all individual components (like
aircrafts) work together and make the entire connecten hassle-free.

How SHS realizes a comprehen-
sive sterile OR-environment?
The first solution describes a gesture/voice-controlled screen. With this type of screen
the user can manipulate and read pre-operative scans / images by showing hand-ges-
tures or by voice control without a single physical contact. No contact means no poten-
tial source to contaminate sterile devices and materials.
This approach contributes therefore to a sterile OR-environment and significantly to a
better surgical outcome. The surgeon can use the screen more intuitively.
Secondly, two wireless devices: electrosurgical knife and laparscopic camera are intro-
duced. These ensure an user-friendly application with a high level of freedom for move-
ment and ease of installation.
Furthermore this solution improves significantly the sterility condition. The user is no
longer required to take care of connecting cables which reach the floor and other
non-sterile objects. This allows the operation team members to focus more on the core
activities thus resulting in a more efficient, more structured and seamlessly orchestrated
workflow.
