2. The Mexicano experience in the United States has
been characterized by themes of oppression,
revolution, endurance, and transformation
Throughout the multiple periods of America's
founding, Mexicanos proved to be culturally bonded
and defiantly rooted in their customs and practices.
They suffered through various forms of indirect and
direct discrimination. Prejudice attitudes prevailed.
But these past generations of Mexicanos would not let
that hinder them.
Mexicanos migrated voluntary although war had
created new territories, the fight for economic
opportunities reigned true.
3. Mexicanos have been successful in preserving their
culture but this has created skepticism for their ability
to assimilate.
The controversy of illegal immigration has
contributed to negative stereotypes of Mexicans.
The united states and Mexico have been negligent in
unifying their goals to better solve the issue at hand.
Yet Mexican immigrants continue to pursue the
American dream while Mexican-Americans wrestle
with its meaning.
Multiple revolutions and movements have sprung up
in light of this evolving issue.
Mexicanas have joined the fight in seeking equality,
opportunity, and justice for women of color.
4. Mexicanos have made it a prime goal to invest in their
education and career opportunities.
This is supported by the Chicano movement which
gave birth to multiple writers, scholars, poets, artists,
musicians, and a vast number of prominent figures in
pop culture.
Mexican Americans are recognized for these various
forms of expression and have made a lasting impact to
multiple fields. This includes:
-Education
- Literature
-History
-Cultural Studies
-Music
-Theatre
-Sports/Entertainment
-Culinary Arts
5. With tensions between Mexico and the United States
increasing, the future seems quite blurry.
The theme of humility and responsibility is read
commonly throughout this book which reveals the
true responsibility we have in correcting the matters
of today to prevent the problems of tomorrow.
We cannot continue to allow the exploitation of a
people to persist.
It will take a joint effort to tend these situations that
have resulted.
Yet we must do what we can in our communities to
ensure that our children and future generations are
secure.
