               Compakblue™ FILTER

 Compakblue™
               • It complements the media filtration technologies
for the reduction of Suspended Solids in tertiary
                   filtration.

               • Its uniqueness lies in the standardization of its
                   production and its compact size.

               • Water to be filtered passes through the disk filters
                   that that hold impurities.

               • The tank, available in both a steel or a concrete
version, contains the disks that are arranged on a
                   central tube.

               • Disks only run during the washing phase.

                                                              7
REUSE OPERATING PRINCIPLE

 Compakblue™
                • Compakblue™ is a constant-rate variable-head
                 gravity filter without level regulation.

                • The washing is automatic, it is triggered when
                 the water level is exceeded.

µ-STRAINER FILTRATION TECHNOLOGY

The washing of disks is short
and frequent.
 – Water to be filtered is fed into the
   central cylinder, penetrates between
   the disks through openings and
   travels through the filtering medium
on the sides of the disks.

 – The dirty water is collected in a
   trough inside the central cylinder.

The filtration is continuous;
no stopping during the cleaning.

Compakblue - Wastewater reuse in a compact treatment solution

  • 1. Compakblue™ REMOVAL OF SUSPENDED SOLIDS AND ASSOCIATED POLLUTANTS BY IMMERSED DISK REUSE FILTRATION WASTEWATER REUSE IN A COMPACT TREATMENT SOLUTION P-PPT-RU-001-EN-1107
  • 2. REUSE CONTENTS Water Reuse Challenges Compakblue™ A Required Water Quality that meets Uses Disk Filtration Range Compakblue™ Operating Parameters/Conditions Compakblue™ Filter Operating Principle Cloth Filtration Technology (Mecana) -strainer Filtration Technology (Nordic Water) To summarize, the Compakblue™ Advantages A cloth Filtration Case Study: Monchy-Saint-Eloi (60), France A -strainer Case Study: Auxi-le-Château (62), FRANCE 2
  • 3. REUSE WATER REUSE CHALLENGES Compakblue™ • To preserve the natural environment • To manage water resources • To relieve the traditional resources • To propose alternative water resources Countries that are concerned: the United States, Australia, Spain, Middle-East Countries, North Africa… Regulations: • No real consensus in the world • Many countries with the greatest water stress have developed standards or regulations to develop Reuse. 3
  • 4. A REQUIRED WATER QUALITY THAT MEETS USES, APPROPRIATE TREATMENTS Non-food Food Crop Crop Specific Crop Oxidation/Adsorption… Irrigation of Membrane Filtration …. non public areas Reverse Osmosis, Media Filtration Indirect Potability Treated Irrigation of green secondary spaces, golf UWW Industries Unrestricted use in urban areas Process 4
  • 5. REUSE DISKS FILTRATION RANGE Compakblue™ Compakblue™ is the name for Degrémont’s disk filtration systems used in wastewater re-use applications. Two versions are available: a -strainer filtration version, developed by Nordic Water, and a cloth filtration version, developed by Mecana. Compakblue™ Product Number of Output Quality Models Type of filtration Technology disks/filter (SS as 95%tile) Specific 100% Mecana 2 to 12 < 6 ppm fabric submerged 60% Nordic Water -strainer < 10 ppm 4 to 28 submerged 5
  • 6. Compakblue™ OPERATING REUSE PARAMETERS/CONDITIONS Compakblue™ Reduction of SS Treatment objective and the particle pollution After the secondary clarifier SS <35ppm Between <3 mg/l SS on the average (<6 in 95%ile) Treated water quality and <5 mg/l SS on the average (<10 in 95%ile) Compakblue™ Water Treated in the treatment line inlet water Biological Clarifier Tertiary Filtration Treatment Compakblue™ 6
  • 7. REUSE Compakblue™ FILTER Compakblue™ • It complements the media filtration technologies for the reduction of Suspended Solids in tertiary filtration. • Its uniqueness lies in the standardization of its production and its compact size. • Water to be filtered passes through the disk filters that that hold impurities. • The tank, available in both a steel or a concrete version, contains the disks that are arranged on a central tube. • Disks only run during the washing phase. 7
  • 8. REUSE OPERATING PRINCIPLE Compakblue™ • Compakblue™ is a constant-rate variable-head gravity filter without level regulation. • The washing is automatic, it is triggered when the water level is exceeded. 8
  • 9. CLOTH-FILTRATION TECHNOLOGY Compakblue™ is a mechanical filter developed by the Mecana Umwelttechnik AG Company, in Switzerland; it is the subject of patents (EP 0958 028). The washing of disks is short Filtration direction and frequent. – It is carried out disk-by-disk with Water to Filtered water be filtered a suction system for materials Pile fabric seen under retained by the pile fabric. the microscope The filtration is continuous; no stopping during the cleaning. Cleaning system by suction OUT / IN FILTRATION 9
  • 10. µ-STRAINER FILTRATION TECHNOLOGY The washing of disks is short and frequent. – Water to be filtered is fed into the central cylinder, penetrates between the disks through openings and travels through the filtering medium on the sides of the disks. – The dirty water is collected in a trough inside the central cylinder. The filtration is continuous; no stopping during the cleaning. IN / OUT FILTRATION 10
  • 11. TO SUMMARIZE, THE ADVANTAGES OF Compakblue™ An alternative to sand filtration when the Civ. Eng. cost is high – Saves 4 times the surface area, – Preserves natural landscapes, Easy to install and operate – Integrating systems in tanks A safe filtration process – Immersed or semi-immersed disks, – Helminth eggs content < 0,1/L in accordance with the WHO (World Health Organization) recommendations. 11
  • 12. CLOTH FILTRATION CASE STUDY: MONCHY-ST-ELOI (60), FRANCE CONTEXT: • WWTP of 30,000 PE • Objective: Discharge in sensitive area • Start-up Date: October 2009 DESIGN: – 2 filters of 6 disks – Total filtering surface area: 60 m² – Disks diameter: 2,10 m – Concrete tank – Treatment line: activated sludge tank, secondary clarifier, Compakblue™ Filter. 12
  • 13. µ-STRAINER FILTRATION CASE STUDY: AUXI-LE-CHÂTEAU (62), FRANCE CONTEXT: • WWTP of 4,000 PE • Objective: discharge into sensitive areas (marina and then a protected estuary) • Start-up date: beginning of 2011 Disk filters DESIGN: – 1 filter of 3 disks Water inlet – Total filtering surface area: 8,4 m² – Flow: 60m3/h – Disks diameter: 1,90 m – Steel Tank – Treatment line: activated sludge tank, secondary clarifier, Compakblue™ Filter Treated water 13
