6. History of Cortana
The development of Cortana started in 2009 in the Microsoft Speech
products team with general manager Zig Serafin and Chief Scientist Larry
Heck. Heck and Serafin established the vision, mission, and long-range plan
for Microsoft's digital personal assistant
It is named after Cortana, a synthetic intelligence character in Microsoft's
Halo video game franchise originating in Bungie folklore, with Jen Taylor, the
character's voice actress.

it made the leap to Android, iOS, and Xbox One throughout 2015 and 2016.
In 2016, Microsoft announced that developers would be able to connect with
Cortana through a new bots platform, in addition to plugging into it directly
for natural interactions.
In 2017 Cortana is primarily found on Windows 10 PCs.
7. Development of Cortana
Cortana's development actually began in 2009, under Zig Serafin and Larry Heck, who
were engineers working with Microsoft Research and the Microsoft Speech team.
Heck & Zig, the first release offered a taste of what he had in mind. Over time, Heck
wanted Cortana to interact in an increasingly anticipatory, natural manner. While not a
true AI, Cortana increasingly recognizable human-like traits, and that's no accident.
Heck had to say back in 2014.
The base technologies for a virtual personal assistant include speech recognition,
semantic/natural language processing, dialogue modeling between human and
machines, and spoken-language generation. Each area has in it a number of research
problems that Microsoft Research has addressed over the years. In fact, we've
pioneered efforts in each of those areas.

11. Cortana & other voice Assistant
Cortana is still better than Alexa, which fell from 90% accuracy in 2017 to 79%
accuracy this year or Siri, which dropped from around 85% to 70%. It was
Cortana that saw the steepest dive, however. Almost 90% of its answers were
complete and accurate in 2017, yet it could only offer accurate answers 53% of
the time this year.
As other assistants focus on consumer use cases, Cortana is now able to
transcribe your meetings, perform voice email playback, find and automatically
remind you about tasks in your emails, and schedule your meetings. Cortana
has also entered Microsoft Teams and Skype in recent years.
Cortana for things like sending an email via Outlook with your voice or
manage your calendar. Likewise, Cortana users will be able to call upon Alexa
to use one of her thousands of skills or control the smart devices around
their home
