During my years at Inland Steel, we constantly took classes in Teambuilding, Mentoring, Diversity, etc.
The 300+ members of our department were very strong and pro-active in working as a team. It was a
great experience! I left this position to start my own company called Broad Horizons, Inc.
Broad Horizons, Inc. and Busy Bee’s Pre-School– 1996 – 2008
2000 - 2008 – Founded a performing arts day care/learning center called Broad Horizons, Inc. in
Griffith, IN. We offered pre-school, day care, piano lessons, tutoring, computer classes, all occasion
parties, before and after school, dance classes, etc. As time progressed, we realized that several
families could not afford our prices and needed help in obtaining funding to continue to use our
3. services. Therefore,in 2006, we became not for profit. I served as Director, Piano Teacher,Computer
Teacher,Tutor, Marketer,Videographer, Budget Meeting Coordinator, and Hired and Trained the Staff,
and developed all of the other positions and programs.
In 2007, I began writing grants for Broad Horizons. My goal is to become a grant writer for multiple
not-for-profit organizations that work to enhance our community. I feelthat my experience as a
systems analyst and my work at Broad Horizons will allow me to excel in the grant writing field. The
documentation and research needed is very similar and will allow me to work in several different fields
and venues.
In 2007, I bought a high definition video camera and began editing videos for the grants and
applications that were needed at Broad Horizons. I’ve used ROXIO and NERO for the video editing
capacities. I’ve learned how to present the videos in Chapter form so that the viewer can click on key
points very quickly. I’ve also videotaped performances for Emerson, West Side, the Little People’s
Theater,and Michigan City High School.
In 2006, I began selling the pictures that we took to our pre-school parents.
1996 – 2008 – I started a pre-school called Busy Bee’s Pre-Schoolin Portage,IN. It was a Christian
based pre-school for children ages 3 – 5. We taught them bible stories, Kindergarten readiness lessons,
social skills, music, and took them to field trips to the apple orchard, pumpkin patch, ballets, etc. The
children graduated with cap and gowns at the end of the year. I served as Director and owner.
