Martyn Waghorn believes Rangers can win the Scottish Premiership title in their first season back in the top flight. Waghorn says Rangers showed they are capable of competing with Celtic in their recent Old Firm clash and that, with expected summer reinforcements, they can challenge Celtic for the league crown. Meanwhile, Leigh Griffiths says the Celtic players want to win the Scottish Premiership title to give departing manager Ronny Deila a successful send-off after he announced he will step down at the end of the season. Aberdeen's title hopes took a major blow as they were defeated 3-0 by St Johnstone.

Rangers can claim the title in

Final place, reckons his side
have proved they have what it
takes, especially in last
Sunday’s Old Firm clash.
With major strengthening
expected at Ibrox this
summer, Waghorn firmly
believes they can challenge
Celtic for the league crown.
“Of course we can,” said the

at the highest level.
“Last week showed we’re

“We’re still a new squad. It’s
our first season with the new

We’ve shown how good we can
be, so why not?
“Everything is geared
towards getting ready for the
first game and the challenges
that lie ahead. I’m hopeful we
can really compete.

LEIGH GRIFFITHS
says the Celtic players
want to win the title for
Ronny Deila.
The Norwegian announced
on Wednesday that he will
step down as manager at the
end of the season.
And striker Griffiths is
determined Deila will do so
having secured back-to-back
championships during his
two-year tenure.
Celtic need just five points
from their remaining five
games to seal five-in-a-row.
And Griffiths is keen to end
the campaign on a high
following the disappointment
of last week’s Scottish Cup
semi-final defeat to Rangers.
He said: “It has not been a
good few days for the club.
“The most disappointing
thing was last Sunday and
then the gaffer saying he’s
leaving at the end of the
season. But we need to look
forward and we’ve still got
five games to give him the
perfect send-off.
“As players we all know the
response is to make sure he
can lift that trophy in the last
game of the season.
“The big incentive is to
secure the title and then we
can have fun, the gaffer can
have fun, and we look forward
to title day. That would be

IN CASH CRISIS
THE family doctor system in Scot-
land faces complete collapse without
an urgent £270million in funding,
GPs’ ruling body warned last night.
The Royal College of General Practitioners
(RCGP) wants Scots health bosses to repli-
cate this week’s announcement by NHS Eng-
land, which has pledged to invest an extra
£2.4billion into practices by 2020.
This will take the proportion of NHS cash spent
on GPs south of the Border to above 10 per cent,
compared to less than 7.5 per cent in Scotland.
