Streamlining Python Development: A Guide to a Modern Project Setup
Terbine Pilot Tester Overview
1. THE GLOBAL MARKETPLACE FOR SENSOR DATA
INFORMATION FOR PROSPECTIVE PILOT TESTERS
Bringing Curation & New Revenue Streams to the IoT
2. 3
TERBINE IS THE FIRST GLOBAL MARKETPLACE FOR SENSOR DATA
THE INTERNET OF THINGS IS GENERATING DATA OF MANY TYPES & FORMATS AT A STAGGERING RATE
By linking data streams into Terbine,
organizations can have their sensor datasets
curated in a frictionless manner with rapidly
searchable indices, accessible via human
interfaces and a rich API suite
Terbine is designed to curate sensor data on a
very large scale, bringing in potentially billions
of datasets generated by millions of sensor-
variants and file-variants
Not simply a website with a database attached,
all aspects of Terbine have been carefully
designed to track and protect ownership rights.
Such as regulatory issues, international
handling matters, and a myriad of other factors
4. 5
CURATION & MONETIZATION OF IOT DATA
TERBINE MAKES YOUR SENSOR DATASETS EASILY ACTIONABLE & MONETIZABLE
The potential for revenue-generation from
sensor datasets is new and virtually unlimited
The Terbine Marketplace system provides a
trusted means to share sensor datasets within
organizations, with trading partners and
independent third parties for revenue.
When datasets are procured, Terbine
charges buyers and provides payment to
the submitting organization.
Now investments in IoT solutions and
infrastructure can be monetized readily
using a methodology controlled by the
submitting organization.
5. 6
WHAT IT IS, AND IS NOT
THE TERBINE MARKETPLACE IS FOCUSED ON SENSOR/IOT DATA
Submitted files or streams must
represent sensor information, no
Personal Identifying Information
(PII) or imagery is accepted
Sensor datasets representing almost any
physical-world attributes and readings
can be ingested
Datasets or streams can be submitted
and retrieved via GUI or API access
Provenance is tracked within Terbine
metadata, allowing nested chains of
rights, licensing and payments
The system is intended for use by
organizations vs. individuals, where
organizations can assign users and roles
6. 7
HOW TERBINE WORKS
BRINGING SENSOR DATA INTO THE MARKETPLACE SYSTEM
The Terbine system auto-generates metadata and indices for submitted
datasets and streams, making them rapidly searchable and retrievable
Once an organization has set up an account and the account has
been validated, dataset or stream ingestion can be performed
Prior to enabling data ingestion, the user sets up
metadata configurations which pertain to any number of
datasets or streams, which can be copied as needed to
create metadata descriptions for similar datasets
Policies can be set for any number of datasets or streams,
configuring what type of organizations can retrieve the
data, to include regional, legal and other parameters
Datasets can be uploaded manually via the Terbine GUI, however it is assumed that once operating, the majority of data will be
submitted via the Terbine API or an “Ingestion Adapter” supporting an IoT data platform or service
7. 8
HOW TERBINE WORKS
FINDING AND RETRIEVING SENSOR DATA VIA THE MARKETPLACE SYSTEM
Unique identifier strings are auto-
generated pointing to the selected
datasets or streams, and if designated
by the submitter via a policy
configuration, a retriever-specific
request may be sent to the submitter
prior to allowing retrieval
Once a transaction is completed, credit
for the datasets and/or streams is
applied to the submitter’s account
Once an organization has set up an
account and the account has been
validated, dataset or stream searching
can be performed
Sensor information can be searched
for and selected via the Terbine GUI
and/or API, then filters can be
applied to narrow results
If required by the submitter, a
credentialing token will be issued for
use by the retriever in accessing the
files or streams
Where payment is required, billing
is handled via the system using
information associated with the
submitter’s and receiver’s accounts,
and if exceeding user-set limits, the
retriever will be asked to authorize
the transaction prior to permitting
access to the given data

THE BUSINESS
TERBINE SUPPORTS PROFIT AND NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS
If a given dataset contains
multiple sub-owners, as tracked
within the associated metadata,
payments may be routed to the
different parties as appropriate
The Terbine Marketplace
architecture allows for blanket or
dynamic pricing of data, based on a
range of determining factors
When a given dataset or
stream is paid for, Terbine
receives a percentage and
sends funds to the submitter
The powerful curation attributes provided by
Terbine can be utilized by universities and
research organizations as a frictionless means to
make their datasets known to a global audience
Data analytics firms can leverage the rich
provenance-tracking features of Terbine to
retrieve data, process it into new data
products and submit them into the
Marketplace for sale
Using Terbine’s policy engine, a
submitting organization can
designate all or some datasets for
retrieval by bonafide educational
institutions at no cost

HOW TO PARTICIPATE IN THE PILOT TEST
TERBINE IS OPEN FOR TRIAL WITH YOUR ORGANIZATION’S SENSOR DATA
Throughout Q1 of 2016,
Terbine is offering
organizations the
opportunity to participate
in the pilot testing of the
innovative Terbine
Marketplace system,
among the world’s first
data marketplaces
Contact Terbine via}
this form or email to
pilot@terbine.com with
information about what sensor
data you have available
Terbine will ingest your datasets,
generate metadata and indices
which you can view and retrieve
via the Terbine GUI and/or API
Datasets can remain in the
system indefinitely, making
them accessible for paid
retrieval once the
Marketplace is launched
