2. Welcome
Thank you for the opportunity to present to you an outline of
what the last three years have produced.
The following presentation shows some of the images that
describe the journey my team have taken to complete the
world’s first fixed roof stadium with a permanent grass pitch.
3. Stadium Features
The Forsyth Barr Stadium boasts the following:
• The world’s first covered stadium with a permanent grass pitch.
• The pitch is a mixture of three rye grass cultivars, with Desso Grassmaster
reinforcing. This has produced one of the best playing surfaces in the southern
hemisphere.
• Clear ETFE roof that lets 97% of available UV light through on to the grass (Think
Eden Project in St Austell).
• Rainwater is harvested into two giant tanks to irrigate our pitch.
• Two giant replay screens.
• 3 Corporate Lounges.
• 19 Hospitality Suites.
• 38 Open Club Reserves.
• 350 parking spaces.
4. Background
The Forsyth Barr Stadium replaces the iconic Carisbrook Stadium. Work commenced
on the stadium in June 2009 and handed over to DVML on 1st August 2011.
Situated 15 minutes from the CBD, the venue received its Maori blessing on 5th August
followed by the traditonal rugby match between Knox and Selwyn Colleges later that
day.
The stadium has already hosted a number of successful sporting events, including 4
Rugby World Cup matches, two A League soccer games, ITM Cup rugby matches and
200 dinners, conferences and meetings.
The stadium hosted Elton John in November 2012 with over 32,000 tickets sold.
To the end of the year the stadium had received an estimated 330,000 visitors.
