(TNA) objectives
Our Training Academy is a self-contained part of
our Head Office, with its own welfare facilities
such as toilets, kitchen, common area and visitor
parking.
Classrooms
The Training Academy has two classrooms, which each seat
up to 12 delegates. All desks dock a touch screen iPad tablet
device, which is networked to course material and to the SMART
interactive white boards in each classroom. The learning sessions
have been designed pragmatically to break up the course and are
visually attractive to engage each delegate.
Practical Area
Our Training Academy has been designed to provide example
environments of typical areas where asbestos removal may be
required for both licensed and unlicensed materials. These areas
include ceiling tiles, boilers, electrical services and cavity areas.
Asbestos practical training includes the erection and dismantling
of enclosures. Fault bays are also setup to prepare the workforce
for any hazardous situations that may occur including electrical
faults, trip hazards etc.
A fully operational decontamination unit is in the practical area
for training purposes and a mock enclosure has been erected
for permanent display. An area has also been created whereby
operatives can build full asbestos enclosures as part of their
asbestos operative training course test, which can then be

removed ready for the next course. There are also specifically
designed areas that replicate real life environments, such as a
gas meter cupboard complete with mock asbestos boarding and
boilers with flues.
A “fitness area” is based adjacent Training Room 2 where a
treadmill is stationed to enable Ductclean’s qualified staff to carry
out face fit testing.
Mannequins are used as a display for the correct ways to wear
RPE (Respiratory Protective Equipment) and PPE (Personal
Protective Equipment).
Within the practical area ductwork is suspended from the ceiling
at different height levels for practical training on ductwork
cleaning, installation of various dimensions and shapes of access
doors and working at height. Furthermore a mock kitchen with
cooker and canopy is present to enable practical kitchen and oven
deep cleaning training.

employees whose work could foreseeably disturb
the fabric of a building and expose them to
asbestos or who supervise or influence the work.
In particular, it should be given to those workers in
the refurbishment, maintenance and allied trades
where it is foreseeable that ACMs may become
exposed during their work.”

7. Health & Safety
Working safely is a one-day course offering all the
basics in a high impact interactive package. Topics
covered include;
Introducing Working Safely
It’s not unusual for delegates coming on an introductory course
to think that accidents only happen to ‘other people’. This module
stresses the realities of the human suffering behind the statistics
and emphasises the importance of personal responsibility.
Defining Hazard and Risk
This module puts ‘hazard’ and ‘risk’ into everyday language, and
uses familiar examples to show what can happen. Importantly, it
makes it clear that even something that is very simple or repeated
over and over again can go wrong, with serious consequences.
Focusing delegates on the six broad hazard groups, delegates are
asked to think about the hazards and risks they come across in
their own work. ‘Risk assessment’ is explained and delegates will
learn that we all carry out informal assessments day in, day out.
Identifying Common Hazards
All the main issues are covered in this module including entrances
and exits, work traffic, fire, chemicals, electricity, physical and
verbal abuse, bullying, stress, noise and the working environment,
slips, trips and falls, and manual handling. Each area is backed by
clear examples and recognisable scenarios, with useful summaries
to reinforce the key learning points.
Improving Safety Performance
This module deals with systems and processes, making sure that
any jargon is explained in easily understood terms. The session
bridgesthegapbetweenmanagementandworkforce,encouraging
delegates to play a part in processes that are commonly seen as
just down to their manager or supervisor. Other areas, including
contract work, inspections, safe systems and permits, protective
equipment, signage, emergency procedures, reporting and health
checks, are all focused on the delegate’s point of view.
Protecting our Environment
A short but effective introduction to waste and pollution leads
delegates into looking at how organisations and individual team
members can get involved in reducing environmental impacts.
Memorable and thought-provoking facts and figures help drive
the points home.
Who should go on Working Safely?
Working safely is for people at any level, in any sector, needing a
grounding in the essentials of health and safety. Everyone at work
should have an understanding of why they must ‘work safely’ and
this course offers exactly that.
