These are my personal photos, so of course, there's some bias here. Plus, none of the South Island beaches, which are just as beautiful, but not quite as warm! 2. A long, golden stretch of sand. Take your pick. Tiny
township 24 kilometres north-west of Whakatāne.

3. I love a good body surf and Waihi delivers for surf.
At nearby Waihi, you can learn about mining. Not
yet too crowded or over-expensive, but is growing.

4. Hahei Beach

Gorgeous spot in the Coromandel. Golden white
sand and crystal clear water. Walk to cathedral
cove, and 10 minutes from popular Cooks beach.

5. 90 Mile Beach
Northland

Starts at Shipwreck Bay with amazing surf and giant
sand dunes, and ends at the northern point of the
country. Actually only 88 kilometres and also a road

6. Raglan
Waikato

Cute little coastal town, world-famous for the left-
hand surf break at Manu Bay. 45 kilometres from
Hamilton. Don’t expect golden sand. Expect surf.

7. Ōhope Beach
Bay of Plenty

The perfect spot for a family escape. About ten
minutes from Whakatāne, the holiday park is
amazing with water slide & pool, basketball court
and kitchens. Kids love bombs off the wharf nearby.

8. Taipa Beach
Northland

About 4 hours north of Auckland, and 20 minutes
from 90 mile beach. Situated in doubtless bay, with
calm blue water. Amazing fishing and worth a trip.

9. Hot Water Beach
Coromandel

World famous beach in the Coromandel, 30
minutes from Whitianga. Bring shovels, dig a hole
to enjoy a bath heated by thermal activity below.

10. Mt Maunganui
Bay of Plenty

Probably New Zealand’s favourite beach. Less than
1.5 hours drive from Auckland and Hamilton. New
Zealand’s version of the Gold Coast. Golden sand.

11. Cathedral Cove
Coromandel

Paradise. It reminded me of the movie “The Beach”.
30 minute drive from Whitianga, and home of the
Te Whanganui-A-Hei Marine Reserve. Access is by
30 minute walk or kayak/charter boat.
