"Computer-Assisted Language Learning is the search for and stu
dy of applications of the computer in language teaching and lea
rning" Levy (1997)
Generally, Computer-assisted language Learning (CALL) is an ap
proach to teaching and learning in which the computer and com
puter-based resources such as the Internet are used to present,
reinforce and assess material to be learned. It usually includes a
substantial interactive element. It also includes the search for an
d the investigation of applications in language teaching and lear
ning.
How CALL Views The
Language (English)
Part 2
Computer Assisted Language Learning views Languag
e (English) as a medium of communication as well as a
medium to increase knowledge.
For example, learners can find it easy to communicate
both directly and indirectly with native and non-native
speakers through the use of social media such as Face
book, Yahoo chatting, and Skype. Learners are expect
ed to use the target language and communicate in the
target language spontaneously and meaningfully.

Part 3
CALL is one of the supporting facilities in developing student
and teacher's ability. Especially in English language learning.
CALL helps in enriching English language skills.
By CALL learners achieve their goals of learning language at t
heir own pace and ability. In this method, computer technolo
gy is used in teaching/learning language procedures at all sta
ges such as presentation, practice and feedback.

The history of CALL suggests that the computer can serve a va
riety of uses for language teaching such as:
โ€ข It can be a tutor which offers language drills or skill practice
โ€ข It can create discussion and interaction
โ€ข A tool for writing and research.
โ€ข With Internet, it can also be a medium of global communica
tion and a source of limitless authentic materials.
Computers can be used directly as tools for word processing,
grammar studies, and collaborative writing.

sments to help the teacher record, weigh, summarize, and r
eport on student progress.
