- Managed all newsroom operations of former daily and now weekly newspaper,
including: supervising staff that has ranged from 5-to-10 employees, assigning story
ideas, editing all content, paginating newspaper, working with newspaper's management
team to continually evaluate long-term strategy for product
- Collected information and formulated news and sports stories for readers in the
Sparks, NV community.
- Wrote commentary/editorials, speaking for the newspaper and releasing its
views on a myriad of community issues
- Photographed images for the newspaper's hard copies and website and then
manipulated them with Adobe Photoshop for optimum visual appeal
- Managed project overseeing the newspaper's swap of website providers in early
months of 2014. Decisions included choosing designs and prioritizing content, surveyed a
variety of newspaper web sites from across the country, evaluating pros and cons of each
to find a provider that could offer the Sparks Tribune a user-friendly product that reached
its readers. The project saw website hits triple to more than 30,000 per month
- Implemented and promoted campaigns to cross promote newspaper, using
Facebook and Twitter, an effort which has seen the small newspaper reach more than
2,000 new readers and growing every day
