Daily photographic duties include: Coordination of and shooting photographs for news and sports
sections; creating visually strong images and compelling stand-alone feature packages covering a
variety of subject matter; planning visuals for upcoming stories, special projects and sections; working
with DSLR video equipment to create multimedia packages.
Daily design duties include: Using local and Associated Press content to create an engaging and easy
to read front page along with 4-10 inside pages as well as the 2-4 page sports section using Adobe
InDesign and InCopy; writing engaging headlines; managing content throughout the processes.
Other daily duties include: Posting content to the website and linking with social media; rewriting
and formatting obituaries to conform with style and directing billing and quotes to customers; taking
phone calls and writing clear and concise sports stories to back up sports editor.
Other duties include: Training new employees in InDesign, InCopy, basic newspaper design and com-
pany workflow. Teaching reporters to make stronger photographs.
Worked with the company’s sister newspaper the Mount Carmel Daily Republican Register in an ad-
visory capacity streamlining daily workflow, improving overall design and advising reporters on making
stronger photographs; set up an InDesign library, InCopy paragraph styles and modified templates to
improve workflow.

Created a week-long lesson plan to instruct high school students in the advanced photography class
held at Michigan State University. Guided students through assignments created to improve images
and information gathering skills. Created informing and easy to read handouts for students to take
