The document summarizes a literacy campaign conducted by Class IX students to teach Class IV school employees how to read and write. The students identified reasons for illiteracy like early marriage and lack of interest. They explained the advantages of literacy like being able to read signs, check bank accounts, and help teachers. The employees learned the Telugu alphabet and numbers. While progress was slow due to their age, they took pride in their new skills like signing forms and using cell phones. The students found the experience rewarding and hope to continue the literacy efforts.

Having decided to make our school Class IV employees literate, we
collectively spoke to them. We interrogated them to the reasons for not
being educated. Obviously, majority of reasons are early marriage, lack of
interest, rural background etc.
In the meeting, we, expressed our interest to teach them the alphabet
and the numbers. They wanted to know how is it going to help them now
?
How the literacy is going to help them?
We explained the advantages of literacy. We told them
that they can
Board a bus without asking anyone
You can check your back account,
You can distribute attendance registers in all
class rooms
You can trace out the files
You can handover the forgotten books and files
to the students in school premises
You can help the teachers in setting the bundles
of answer scripts after the examination
You can look into the calendar for dates, into
the clock for time etc.
We made them identify the alphabet in TELUGU first and later the
numbers. They can read and write now. A few them learnt A to z and can
identify them. As they spent only an hour everyday for practice, they
need more time to become perfect. It is a bit difficult to encourage grown
ups to listen to students like us.
2. They liked the sessions we conducted. They are proud now to say that
they also know how to read and write. They are no more illiterates. They
signed in the pay scale register to receive salaries. They are maintaining
cell phones, can tell who called them.
They are experienced and co-operative. We wish to continue the
campaign as it has advantages, especially, we the students are contended
to make them literates.

them here. We will learn how send photos and send them to you as you
maily aim at change but not simply take help from others. It is really an
worth remembering and exciting experience for all of us. We thank our
Mam Smt. Kameswari for having shouldered us the responsibilty and task
completely to us.
Thank you,
