The Debate On Animal Rights
There are two major schools of thought on animal protection. First, is the tenet that animals should have rights and the second, more radical view, is
that animals should be liberated. Many of the rights that are promoted for animals are similar to the rights of human democratic societies. The basic
rights, which are recommended by a number of advocates, are that animals should be free from suffering, be in possession of their own life, and their
basic interests should be given the same consideration as humans (Taylor, 2009). The more extreme view, is that animals should be considered as
people and not property (Francione, 2008). There are a number of leading philosophers that have published opinions on the legitimacy of animal rights.
The debate on animal rights has been discussed since close to the beginning of historical time. The reference in the Bible of Adam having dominion
over the fish, birds, and animals that inhabit the earth implies ownership or some form of property rights to the animals (Francione, 1995). The
implication was that man was superior to animals because he was created in the image of God. The Greek philosopher Aristotle based his opinions on
the idea that animals did not have the ability to reason and so they were below humans (Taylor, 2009). Rene Descartes, a French philosopher who is
known as the father of modern philosophy, had a tremendous influence on the animal rights debate and his opinions are still being quoted today in
papers and

A.How is this an ethical and moral issue? What are the different opinions about the actual issue or how to solve the issue? Animal cruelty can be
either deliberate abuse or simply the failure to take care of an animal. Either way, or whether the animal is a pet, a farm animal or wildlife, the victim
can suffer terribly. Animal cruelty is an ethical and moral dilemma as there is no clear right or wrong answers that can solve all of the issues. There
are numerous opinions on how this issue can be solved, these include; –Creating more animal protection laws e.g. ban animals in circuses –Harsher
fines for animal abusers –Educate people on why animal cruelty is a problem ANIMAL ABUSE– CATHOLIC Catholic views on animal abuse is
varied greatly. The 'traditional' view is that humans are made in a different image than animals. It proclaims that humans have been given 'dominion'
over nature, meaning humans can use animals in accordance to their own needs (gen 1:28). However, many Catholics disagree and believe that God
gave human 'stewardship' over the animals, which means we are put on this Earth to look after and care for God's creation (Luke 12:6). There are a
number of Catholic authorities that discourage animal abuse; The Church of England held a conference in 1988 and 1986 that was concerned with this
issue. It reinforced that 'human beings are both co–partners with the rest of creation and living bridges between Heaven and Earth, with responsibility

Animal Rights : The Animal Bill Of Rights
The Animal Bill of Rights is meant to protect animals that don't have legal protection. There are laws that protect some of the animals, but are often
insufficient and full of loopholes. In this society we have many people who think the total opposite of defending the animals. It may be because of
selfish thinking. Sometimes one might think, it is needed for them to survive or because they want to be able to show their children the animals in
person at zoos. Now, the question is, if animals need a Bill of Rights? I strongly believe that they do need a Bill of Rights because there are animals on
the day–to–day basis that are being mistreated and abused by humans that don't care for them. We need the Bill of Rights because it will give a
better voice to the animals being treated as if they were nothing in this world. I agree with what the source indicated " Animals in the U.S. are
considered just "property" by law, even though they are living, feeling beings". If they were not considered "property" humans wouldn't be harming
these animals and would rather be caring or not giving them much attention if they aren't an animal enthusiast. Many animals are being used for
experiments in laboratories. For example, birds, rats, and mice. These animals are being treated as like " oh, they don't really matter". But, not all of
the animals in the laboratories are being harmed. In Rifkin's article " A Change of Heart about Animals" he mentions two birds named Betty and Abel

Chapter Summary: The Impact Of Animal Protection
In addition to providing the animal with shelter, and necessary supplies the natural parks can bring back a whole species from near extinction. In the
passage "The Impact of Animal Protection" it directly states that keeping animals protected has proven to be beneficial and increase the population of
endangered animals. Bringing animals back from near extinction can be a difficult task, however it is very beneficial. Animal protection is also used to
help control animal population from getting out of control. These programs have brought back plenty of species such as black footed ferrets, California
condors, red wolves, and golden lion tamarins. (Do Animals Lose in Zoos?) The community would never get to see these amazing creatures if these

Ethical Actions Towards Animals Essay
Mahatma Gandhi once said that "the greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be measured by the way animals are treated." One would believe
that animal's rights would be a vital concern to the United States government since thirty nine percent of the American population possesses pets.
Instead, there is a debate of whether or not animals should have rights, such as the right of humane treatment, and the right to not be exploited for
human purposes. Moreover, there is a greater debate of whether or not animal rights should be enforced earnestly by the government. Animals and the
many things they provide for the human race, such as companionship, food, and clothing, have been taken for granted for many decades. Although

A year later Martin's legislation was passed but Colonel Richard Martin felt that people did not take the legislation seriously and this led to the
formation of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in 1824. In 1960 Congress passed the Animal Welfare Act, which was the first
federal law regulating the treatment of animals. Since then, there have been numerous animal rights movements and just as many incidents of
cruelty towards animals. For instance, it was discovered that some facilities were packing pigs, chickens and hens into cages, stuffed so tight that
they had no ability to lay down, stand up, or turn around freely. Other forms of animal abuse that was discovered were dog fights, cock fights, and
the use of animals to obtain scientific and medical progress. Surely, one could not escape the media's reports of the Atlanta Falcons quarterback,
Michael Vick, pleading guilty to federal animal cruelty charges for conducting dog fights at his home. Not all animals are being mistreated by the
people who are expected to love and care for them. In 2007, a hotel entrepreneur, Leona Helmsley died and left her dog, Trouble, $12 million. This
was the first financial trust ever to be awarded to a four legged companion. Ultimately, a judge cut Troubles trust fund down to $2 million for the
reason that the dog only had about five years left in his life span. But Trouble's good fortune doesn't make

Protection Of Endangered Species Essay
Out of all the species that have ever existed since the beginning of time, 98% of them are extinct (Facts). There are an estimated 5–10 million species
that exist currently and only 1.5 million have been identified (Sherry, 2). Scientists classify species into six different groups: plants, animals, insects,
algae, fungi, and microorganisms (Today's Situation). In the tropical rainforest alone, most species are disappearing at the rate of 1% a year (Sherry, 6).
If the current trend continues, at least 50% of all currently existing species will be either extinct or endangered by the year 2050 (Today's Situation). For
this reason endangered species deserve more protection than the current regulations provide.
Throughout history there have...show more content...
The next major step by the government to protect and increase threatened and endangered species population was the Endangered Species Act of
1973. It stated that "It is declared to be the policy of congress that all federal departments and agencies shall seek to conserve endangered species and
threatened species and shall utilize their authorities in furthermore of the purpose of this act" (Sherry, 9). The quality of a species habitat is crucial
because it cannot survive without it. No matter how successful breeding in captivity is, reintroducing species into the wild is useless if there is no
wild to return them to (Habitat Preservation). To rehabilitate a natural environment it is a good idea to plant native vegetation and provide homes for
associated animals in the environment (Habitat Preservation). Zoos are also helping to breed species in captivity with environments as close to the
wild as possible. In certain circumstances these efforts are worthwhile and the plants or animals are returned to their native environments (Zoos and
Reserves). These efforts have proven to preserve unique species that otherwise would have been lost forever. With all the work that goes into helping
preserve species, there are also a lot of benefits that come out of it.
The most obvious benefit of preserving species is for their uses in medical advancement. Out of all the flowering plants that exist in the

Animal Conservation Essay
Earth is home to a collection of wonderful flora and fauna. From the bold and beautiful macaw to the miniscule pygmy fruit bat, ever ecosystem hosts
a multitude of fantastic creatures and fauna. Unfortunately, approximately 16,306 species of plants and animals have been placed on the IUCN's red
list as endangered. It is estimated that every day 150–200 fauna and flora species become extinct. Our world cannot afford to lose so much of our
natural world, and I believe that it is our responsibility to conserve and protect our ecosystems and the inhabitants of those ecosystems. It is my
intention to major in the field of animal sciences with a concentration in biodiversity and conservation so I have the means to aide conservation.
Moreover, I hope that by receiving a higher education I can aide in the protection and relief efforts of these wonderful creatures. My intentions are to
attend classes that will equip me with the mandatory college and skills to protect and preserve the natural wonder of this earth.
My passion for nature was kindled through the wildlife exposer I received from the Great Smoky Mountains national park. The mountains have
always been an inspiration and I would love to work in a field in which I get to work the nature within them. Tennessee is home to some many
wonderful flora and fauna and it is a place when I truly feel at home. This national park is home to many spectacular and rare animals. Protecting and

If animals are so different from humans, then why should they be granted the rights and protection of humans as stated in our Constitution (Hurley,
1999, p. 49)? As the Bible states in Genesis 1:26, "And God said... Let them [human beings] have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl
of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth,"("ProCon.org", 2015). Mankind has rule over animals, to respect them and love them, but also to
use them as necessary (Harnack, 1996). The American Medical Association once stated that "Depriving humans (and animals) of advances in medicine
that result from research with animals is inhumane and fundamentally unethical. Depriving patients with dementia, stroke, disabling injuries, heart
disease, and cancer of hope and relief by eliminating animal research is an immoral and unconscionable act" (Oliver, 1993, p. 18).
Christians, Muslims, and Jewish all believe in animal testing as long as unnecessary pain is not inflicted and there is a real possible benefit to humans
("ProCon.org", 2015). Other religions such as Hinduism and Judaism honor cows and pigs respectively. Circumstances like these may affect their
willingness to support or oppose animal experimentation (Ormandy & Schuppli, 2014).
Without the use of animal testing, treatments and cures for chronic conditions and infectious diseases would not exist. These treatments help cases in

Essay about Animals Must Be Protected
Animals Must Be Protected
Animals are in many ways the same as human beings. We consider them our best freind, sibling, child, or to put it simply, we view them as being
part of our family. For example, my parents have a a Pekingese puppy, whom I identify and treat as my little brother. I could never imagine what I'de
do if anything were to happen to him. For these reasons, I strongly believe in the rights of animals and the need to provide them full protectionfrom
violence and danger. Those who share this concern can in fact find on the internet useful information that addresses the issues of animal abuse, neglect,
and exploitation. Some of these sources of information are organizations, which include, but are not limited to,...show more content...
According to thier website, in efforts to fulfill its organizational goals and mission, AHO has joined forces with other humane organizations and
together, they are taking positive actions by creating animal welfare programs such as animal adoption, care and issues, farm animals, disaster relief,
film monitoring, shelter services, legislative action, and educaton and awareness. In addition, AHO offers links on thier website where you can learn
more leadership skills for developing policies and services to help children and animal abuse and neglect.
Aside from promoting individual action, the American Humane Organization also relies heavily on simply creating pubilc awareness about the issues
facing children and animals. They achieve this organizational goal by implementing and enabling quick access of facts about problems and concerns
dealing with both animals and children onto thier website. These facts range in questions concerning anywhere from shelter of animals to sexual abuse
of children. In addition, the American Humane Organization website offers information regarding official government laws, both state and federal,
which exists to serve the welfare of both children and animals and to promote humane services. Some of which these laws include are Captive Wildlife
Safety Act 2003 and Violence Against Chldren Act of 2003, just to name a few of the most recent.

The Effectiveness of Animal Protection Laws in the United States Almost eight million dogs and cats are surrendered to local shelters each year. Of
those nearly three million are euthanized in the U.S. according to the ASPCA. There are only three federal laws in the nation regarding animals, The
Animal Welfare Act (AWA), Humane Methods of Slaughter Act, and the Twenty
–Eight Hour Act of 1877. The AWA specifies regulation for
domesticated pets, while the other two are for livestock and humane killings, but these don't even include chickens! States are responsible for any
other animal laws, while in the European Union (EU), fifteen countries implement and provide legislation on proper animal care across the board.
Why is it that the United States hasn't passed any federal legislation since 1966? Are states laws really enough? Federal domestic animal law should
be more stringent. Many owners regard their pets as children. There are an unsurmountable amount of laws regarding the treatment and wellbeing of a
child. However, because these animals are seen as personal property, the same type of effort has not been placed forth for the "fur babies". Laws are
instituted for the protection of humanity; however, this planet is shared with many other species who deserve even the simplest of protections.
Legislation focuses heavily on the proper care and treatment of pigs, sheep, and cows; but, not man's best friend? Legislation for the humane treatment
of pets only exists at the state

Animal Protection Laws from State to State
Thesis statement: Many people think all states have the same animal protection laws, but each
State is unique. Some states have more laws, and they enforce them more seriously seriously than others.
Debasish Mridha once said, " Unnecessary violence against animals is a heinous crime. Be a voice for those who do not have one." Some people have
already stepped up to that challenge because they noticed that many animals in our world were/are being treated cruelly. Citizens aren't the only ones
stepping up, though. Many state governments have joined the fight, and they have created laws to protect these animals. Some states more than others.

525.130 states that abuse towards any non domestic animal is illegal. Neglect, abandonment, killing, poison, and torture all apply.
525.135 says that you are not allowed to torture any dog or cat. Because each state has their own laws protecting animals, each state has it's own way of
handling how to deal with the animals that are victims and the people who committed the crime.
Illinois not only has the most animal rights laws, but it also takes them more seriously than many other states.
If a person breaks part a of section 3, the first time it is a class B misdemeanor. After the first offense it is a class 4 felony, but everyday is a different
charge. Breaking part b is a class B misdemeanor.
By beating your animal it's a A misdemeanor, and then a class 4 for repeating cases. If you torture the animal; however, it's a class 3 felony. If the
animal dies or is seriously injured it is class 4 felony and class 3 for repeating case.
By taking part in animal fighting or breaking section 4 you can serve a class 4 or 3 felony, and all dogs/animals will be taken away.
Breaking section 5 is a class C–B misdemeanor.

Have you ever been to a zoo or a wildlife refuge? You have seen the way the animals act for our entertainment. I feel that animals should be left in the
wild where they were naturally meant to live. In zoos, they have limited space; some zoos even show cruelty to their animals. Animals are being taken
out of their natural habitat only for the owners to make money off of them. I feel strongly that having animals in captivity for human enjoyment is not
what God intended to happen.
In many of the zoos that i have witnessed have had small living quarters for the animals. In both articles "The Impact of Animal Protection" and "Do
Animals Lose in Zoos" they both talk about having limited space at zoos and wildlife reserves. I have gone the Oklahoma City Zoo and seen some of
the larger animals enclosures. Some of the larger cats in particularly seem small holding the seven or eight cats at a time. In the article, " Do Animals
Lose in Zoos?" it says, "Big cats have been seen endlessly pacing." This is due to them being locked up and not able to run...show more content...
According to the passage "The Impact of Animal Protection" it says "In the wild, animals share territory with other species, and the idea of survival
of the fittest is very apparent." it also mentions that the innate instincts they have to survive can be hurt and sometimes gone if they are kept in
captivity for too long. The animals are more likely to be hurt by predators because they forget the their natural ways from when they were wild and
untouched by the human kind. Others may say that it's great for many of the to be in the animals to be in zoos mainly for the entertainment to them
when they go to see the animals. However I still feel that it is not necessary for them to be locked away in the captivity of zoos for human needs they

Importance Of Animal Rights
Animals deserve to have a limited Bill of Rights. Animals are like humans in so many ways and for those reasons they deserve protection from the
law protecting them to a certain extent. Research is proving that these animals are more and more like us than we have ever imagined and it's starts
to make you reconsider the way we treat these animals. The big question that we all need to ask ourselves is, do animals deserve to have a Bill of Rights
? If these animals are starting to prove that they are evolving to modern society and becoming more like humans than their rights in this society should
evolve to those of a human's rights also. These animals lives should not be disturbed and miserable for human entertainment. Animals should not be
held against their will all for human entertainment. Holding them in these zoos and aquariums isn't their natural habitat and cause change in many
aspects of their lives. Some animals become depressed because they are taken away from their families to then be placed in a cage for the rest of
their lives just to be looked at for human entertainment. In his article, "A Change of Heart about Animals," Jeremy Rifkin states that "studies on pigs'
social behavior funded by McDonald's at Purdue University... have found that they crave affection and are easily depressed if isolated or denied
playtime with each other" (Rifkin). So one can only imagine what these other animals are going through. Why do they have to suffer, while we sit back
and watch

Imagine being locked in a cage, having thousands of people each day watching, taunting, and provoking you. That image of what just came into your
mind is exactly what captive animals feel like all the time, every day. People believe animals should have rights. They need the same type of attention
and protection as we humans. "Two–thirds of Americans polled by the press agree with animal rights to live freely." (Tripp, P, 2003, pg 18) For
example, the original idea of a zoo was to inform people, common citizens with knowledge of the rare creatures that we would not normally see every
day. Somewhere along the way, that was changed. Animals are the same as humans, they have rights, there are multiple signs of neglect, and there are
ways you can report animal abuse. Many people think animal abuse is not common, but it's actually more common than you think someone could walk
past a house and hear an animal whining and that's one of signs for animal neglect. Animal neglect is caused by humans, not paying attention, feeding,
keeping their animals outside or torturing the animal. Animal abuse and neglect can be reduced by the people knowing the causes and reasons of
abusing animals.
Animals are the same as humans
"Over time, humans have realized they could feed, house and care for animals contently close to where they live and kill them when they are ready to
other than when they could be caught" (Tripp, P, 2003, pg. 10 ). Humans now days are not thinking animals could feel pain or

Protection Over Animals : Animal Abuse
Protection Over Animals We should understand that animals have feelings and have a brain even though they do not have the same physical
appearance as we do. I believe people that are caught committing the acts of abuse, the consequences of breaking the animal laws should be
strongly enforced. In reality I'm sure that I am not the only person who would love nothing than to help our loving animals to live a full and happy
life. The reason for my paper is to reach out to people on how important animals are, just as much as we are important. I also believe that we should
all want to help animals and keep them safe from abuse because no living breathing creature deserves to go through that. Animal abusers should have
harsher punishments for animal abuse due to the cruelty inflicted on the animals, the rights of animals, and the inhumane things done during animal
testing (Report 1). People in our society use our animals for all the wrong reasons. Our pets and wild life are meant to be loved and handled with
care, people have always exploited animals. With the people of today's society, some of our wildlife species could become extinct because of the fact
that people hunt and kill animals for fun and sport. In the last ten years the idea that animals have rights has gained acceptance in Europe, the United
States and Australia. The main arguments in this book is that people should respect the fact that animals do have rights. All animals should be treated
with love, care and

The animal protection movement of the nineteenth century was based on the concept of animal welfare; that is, the moral obligations required by
human society. Such morals stem from natural theology, specifically, the Book of Nature, which proposes that humans, the superior beings, should
hold dominion over animals, but have mercy, care, and stewardship toward them. From these ideas, the animal protection movement was formed with
two responsibilities in mind: first, to address traditional moral concerns, such that an individual pledges to do no harm to animals; and second, to
enforce the prevention of cruelty to animals inflicted by others (Fan, 10/28).
The first anti–cruelty bill was introduced to Parliament in England in 1800 in an attempt to end bull baiting; this initial legislation was the start of a
long effort. In 1822, Colonel Richard Martin succeeded in passing a bill to prevent cruelty to livestock (later amended to include...show more content...
She was not only an animal welfare advocate, but also a writer and a suffragist. In 1875, Cobbe established the National Anti–Vivisection Society
(NAVS), which combatted medical establishments and their methods for experimentation, influencing future research methods andanimal testing. A
year later, the Cruelty to Animals Act was passed, establishing England's first attempt to regulate experimentation of animals (Guerrini, 90). In the
midst of the anti–vivisection legislation, Anna Sewell published Black Beauty, an animal autobiography illustrating the conditions of a working horse
in the nineteenth century. Black Beauty exposes the treatment of animals during this time, including the cruelty of accessories such as the "bearing
rein," a strap restraining the horse's neck, causing damage and pain. Sewell's novel raised enough public outcries to have the bearing rein abolished in
England, and spark anti–cruelty legislation in

The Third Stage Of The Animal Protection Movement
The Animal Protection Movement also underwent the Bureaucratic stage, which is the third stage of development of social movements in sociology.
The bureaucratization stage of social movements is the formalization stage that is characterized by high level of organization as swell as coalitions. As
such, this makes the social movement a powerful political force. As explained in the book, Thinking Sociology, this is the stage that is symbolized by
a myriad of social movements dedicated to animal rights show that this particular concern will not go away (Carl, et al., 2011). In this stage of the
Animal Protection Movement, there was significant media visibility, especially in the 1980s. In addition to that vigorous competition among the
organizations in this juncture symbolize high level of efficiency in the movement. Strategic thinking by animal advocates was also adopted as an
approach to enable justice–based movements that influenced drastic victories for the movement in that decade. Nevertheless, this stage of the Animal
Welfare Movements was marked by extensive changes in organizations and the growth of active supporter base for the movement.
The final stage of the Animal Welfare Movement is the decline stage. The animal welfare movement has not had any decline since gradual
developments are made by countries from time to time. In...show more content...
Economically, there is a cost implication on the society, either in the short or long term. This assertion is because the value of research rose with a huge
limitation on the scope of the investigation. Massive amounts of funds are invested in the protection of animals and enactment of the animal rights
laws. In addition to that, due to curtailing of animal research by Animal Protection Movement, research on human health is not only slow but also
expensive. Substantial cost may be incurred when new treatments for diseases are not taken through

The Debate On Animal Rights

  • 1. The Debate On Animal Rights There are two major schools of thought on animal protection. First, is the tenet that animals should have rights and the second, more radical view, is that animals should be liberated. Many of the rights that are promoted for animals are similar to the rights of human democratic societies. The basic rights, which are recommended by a number of advocates, are that animals should be free from suffering, be in possession of their own life, and their basic interests should be given the same consideration as humans (Taylor, 2009). The more extreme view, is that animals should be considered as people and not property (Francione, 2008). There are a number of leading philosophers that have published opinions on the legitimacy of animal rights. The debate on animal rights has been discussed since close to the beginning of historical time. The reference in the Bible of Adam having dominion over the fish, birds, and animals that inhabit the earth implies ownership or some form of property rights to the animals (Francione, 1995). The implication was that man was superior to animals because he was created in the image of God. The Greek philosopher Aristotle based his opinions on the idea that animals did not have the ability to reason and so they were below humans (Taylor, 2009). Rene Descartes, a French philosopher who is known as the father of modern philosophy, had a tremendous influence on the animal rights debate and his opinions are still being quoted today in papers and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. A.How is this an ethical and moral issue? What are the different opinions about the actual issue or how to solve the issue? Animal cruelty can be either deliberate abuse or simply the failure to take care of an animal. Either way, or whether the animal is a pet, a farm animal or wildlife, the victim can suffer terribly. Animal cruelty is an ethical and moral dilemma as there is no clear right or wrong answers that can solve all of the issues. There are numerous opinions on how this issue can be solved, these include; –Creating more animal protection laws e.g. ban animals in circuses –Harsher fines for animal abusers –Educate people on why animal cruelty is a problem ANIMAL ABUSE– CATHOLIC Catholic views on animal abuse is varied greatly. The 'traditional' view is that humans are made in a different image than animals. It proclaims that humans have been given 'dominion' over nature, meaning humans can use animals in accordance to their own needs (gen 1:28). However, many Catholics disagree and believe that God gave human 'stewardship' over the animals, which means we are put on this Earth to look after and care for God's creation (Luke 12:6). There are a number of Catholic authorities that discourage animal abuse; The Church of England held a conference in 1988 and 1986 that was concerned with this issue. It reinforced that 'human beings are both co–partners with the rest of creation and living bridges between Heaven and Earth, with responsibility to make Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Animal Rights : The Animal Bill Of Rights The Animal Bill of Rights is meant to protect animals that don't have legal protection. There are laws that protect some of the animals, but are often insufficient and full of loopholes. In this society we have many people who think the total opposite of defending the animals. It may be because of selfish thinking. Sometimes one might think, it is needed for them to survive or because they want to be able to show their children the animals in person at zoos. Now, the question is, if animals need a Bill of Rights? I strongly believe that they do need a Bill of Rights because there are animals on the day–to–day basis that are being mistreated and abused by humans that don't care for them. We need the Bill of Rights because it will give a better voice to the animals being treated as if they were nothing in this world. I agree with what the source indicated " Animals in the U.S. are considered just "property" by law, even though they are living, feeling beings". If they were not considered "property" humans wouldn't be harming these animals and would rather be caring or not giving them much attention if they aren't an animal enthusiast. Many animals are being used for experiments in laboratories. For example, birds, rats, and mice. These animals are being treated as like " oh, they don't really matter". But, not all of the animals in the laboratories are being harmed. In Rifkin's article " A Change of Heart about Animals" he mentions two birds named Betty and Abel whom are Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Chapter Summary: The Impact Of Animal Protection In addition to providing the animal with shelter, and necessary supplies the natural parks can bring back a whole species from near extinction. In the passage "The Impact of Animal Protection" it directly states that keeping animals protected has proven to be beneficial and increase the population of endangered animals. Bringing animals back from near extinction can be a difficult task, however it is very beneficial. Animal protection is also used to help control animal population from getting out of control. These programs have brought back plenty of species such as black footed ferrets, California condors, red wolves, and golden lion tamarins. (Do Animals Lose in Zoos?) The community would never get to see these amazing creatures if these Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Ethical Actions Towards Animals Essay Mahatma Gandhi once said that "the greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be measured by the way animals are treated." One would believe that animal's rights would be a vital concern to the United States government since thirty nine percent of the American population possesses pets. Instead, there is a debate of whether or not animals should have rights, such as the right of humane treatment, and the right to not be exploited for human purposes. Moreover, there is a greater debate of whether or not animal rights should be enforced earnestly by the government. Animals and the many things they provide for the human race, such as companionship, food, and clothing, have been taken for granted for many decades. Although statistics...show more content... A year later Martin's legislation was passed but Colonel Richard Martin felt that people did not take the legislation seriously and this led to the formation of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in 1824. In 1960 Congress passed the Animal Welfare Act, which was the first federal law regulating the treatment of animals. Since then, there have been numerous animal rights movements and just as many incidents of cruelty towards animals. For instance, it was discovered that some facilities were packing pigs, chickens and hens into cages, stuffed so tight that they had no ability to lay down, stand up, or turn around freely. Other forms of animal abuse that was discovered were dog fights, cock fights, and the use of animals to obtain scientific and medical progress. Surely, one could not escape the media's reports of the Atlanta Falcons quarterback, Michael Vick, pleading guilty to federal animal cruelty charges for conducting dog fights at his home. Not all animals are being mistreated by the people who are expected to love and care for them. In 2007, a hotel entrepreneur, Leona Helmsley died and left her dog, Trouble, $12 million. This was the first financial trust ever to be awarded to a four legged companion. Ultimately, a judge cut Troubles trust fund down to $2 million for the reason that the dog only had about five years left in his life span. But Trouble's good fortune doesn't make Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Protection Of Endangered Species Essay Out of all the species that have ever existed since the beginning of time, 98% of them are extinct (Facts). There are an estimated 5–10 million species that exist currently and only 1.5 million have been identified (Sherry, 2). Scientists classify species into six different groups: plants, animals, insects, algae, fungi, and microorganisms (Today's Situation). In the tropical rainforest alone, most species are disappearing at the rate of 1% a year (Sherry, 6). If the current trend continues, at least 50% of all currently existing species will be either extinct or endangered by the year 2050 (Today's Situation). For this reason endangered species deserve more protection than the current regulations provide. Throughout history there have...show more content... The next major step by the government to protect and increase threatened and endangered species population was the Endangered Species Act of 1973. It stated that "It is declared to be the policy of congress that all federal departments and agencies shall seek to conserve endangered species and threatened species and shall utilize their authorities in furthermore of the purpose of this act" (Sherry, 9). The quality of a species habitat is crucial because it cannot survive without it. No matter how successful breeding in captivity is, reintroducing species into the wild is useless if there is no wild to return them to (Habitat Preservation). To rehabilitate a natural environment it is a good idea to plant native vegetation and provide homes for associated animals in the environment (Habitat Preservation). Zoos are also helping to breed species in captivity with environments as close to the wild as possible. In certain circumstances these efforts are worthwhile and the plants or animals are returned to their native environments (Zoos and Reserves). These efforts have proven to preserve unique species that otherwise would have been lost forever. With all the work that goes into helping preserve species, there are also a lot of benefits that come out of it. The most obvious benefit of preserving species is for their uses in medical advancement. Out of all the flowering plants that exist in the Get more content on HelpWriting.net

From the bold and beautiful macaw to the miniscule pygmy fruit bat, ever ecosystem hosts a multitude of fantastic creatures and fauna. Unfortunately, approximately 16,306 species of plants and animals have been placed on the IUCN's red list as endangered. It is estimated that every day 150–200 fauna and flora species become extinct. Our world cannot afford to lose so much of our natural world, and I believe that it is our responsibility to conserve and protect our ecosystems and the inhabitants of those ecosystems. It is my intention to major in the field of animal sciences with a concentration in biodiversity and conservation so I have the means to aide conservation. Moreover, I hope that by receiving a higher education I can aide in the protection and relief efforts of these wonderful creatures. My intentions are to attend classes that will equip me with the mandatory college and skills to protect and preserve the natural wonder of this earth. • 8. If animals are so different from humans, then why should they be granted the rights and protection of humans as stated in our Constitution (Hurley, 1999, p. 49)? As the Bible states in Genesis 1:26, "And God said... Let them [human beings] have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth,"("ProCon.org", 2015). Mankind has rule over animals, to respect them and love them, but also to use them as necessary (Harnack, 1996). The American Medical Association once stated that "Depriving humans (and animals) of advances in medicine that result from research with animals is inhumane and fundamentally unethical. Depriving patients with dementia, stroke, disabling injuries, heart disease, and cancer of hope and relief by eliminating animal research is an immoral and unconscionable act" (Oliver, 1993, p. 18). Christians, Muslims, and Jewish all believe in animal testing as long as unnecessary pain is not inflicted and there is a real possible benefit to humans ("ProCon.org", 2015). Other religions such as Hinduism and Judaism honor cows and pigs respectively. Circumstances like these may affect their willingness to support or oppose animal experimentation (Ormandy & Schuppli, 2014). Without the use of animal testing, treatments and cures for chronic conditions and infectious diseases would not exist. These treatments help cases in AIDS, Alzheimer's, anthrax, beriberi, cancer, cholera, coronary heart disease, diabetes, Get more content on HelpWriting.net

We consider them our best freind, sibling, child, or to put it simply, we view them as being part of our family. For example, my parents have a a Pekingese puppy, whom I identify and treat as my little brother. I could never imagine what I'de do if anything were to happen to him. For these reasons, I strongly believe in the rights of animals and the need to provide them full protectionfrom violence and danger. In addition, AHO offers links on thier website where you can learn more leadership skills for developing policies and services to help children and animal abuse and neglect. • 10. The Effectiveness of Animal Protection Laws in the United States Almost eight million dogs and cats are surrendered to local shelters each year. Of those nearly three million are euthanized in the U.S. according to the ASPCA. There are only three federal laws in the nation regarding animals, The Animal Welfare Act (AWA), Humane Methods of Slaughter Act, and the Twenty –Eight Hour Act of 1877. The AWA specifies regulation for domesticated pets, while the other two are for livestock and humane killings, but these don't even include chickens! States are responsible for any other animal laws, while in the European Union (EU), fifteen countries implement and provide legislation on proper animal care across the board. Why is it that the United States hasn't passed any federal legislation since 1966? Are states laws really enough? Federal domestic animal law should be more stringent. Many owners regard their pets as children. There are an unsurmountable amount of laws regarding the treatment and wellbeing of a child. However, because these animals are seen as personal property, the same type of effort has not been placed forth for the "fur babies". Laws are instituted for the protection of humanity; however, this planet is shared with many other species who deserve even the simplest of protections. Legislation focuses heavily on the proper care and treatment of pigs, sheep, and cows; but, not man's best friend? Legislation for the humane treatment of pets only exists at the state Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Animal Protection Thesis Statement Madison Kueper Instructor Hansen Comp I 9, November 2016 Animal Protection Laws from State to State Thesis statement: Many people think all states have the same animal protection laws, but each State is unique. Some states have more laws, and they enforce them more seriously seriously than others. Debasish Mridha once said, " Unnecessary violence against animals is a heinous crime. Be a voice for those who do not have one." Some people have already stepped up to that challenge because they noticed that many animals in our world were/are being treated cruelly. Citizens aren't the only ones stepping up, though. Many state governments have joined the fight, and they have created laws to protect these animals. Some states more than others. Illinois not only has the most animal rights laws, but it also takes them more seriously than many other states. If a person breaks part a of section 3, the first time it is a class B misdemeanor. After the first offense it is a class 4 felony, but everyday is a different charge. Breaking part b is a class B misdemeanor. By beating your animal it's a A misdemeanor, and then a class 4 for repeating cases. If you torture the animal; however, it's a class 3 felony. If the animal dies or is seriously injured it is class 4 felony and class 3 for repeating case. • 12. Have you ever been to a zoo or a wildlife refuge? You have seen the way the animals act for our entertainment. I feel that animals should be left in the wild where they were naturally meant to live. In zoos, they have limited space; some zoos even show cruelty to their animals. Animals are being taken out of their natural habitat only for the owners to make money off of them. I feel strongly that having animals in captivity for human enjoyment is not what God intended to happen. In many of the zoos that i have witnessed have had small living quarters for the animals. In both articles "The Impact of Animal Protection" and "Do Animals Lose in Zoos" they both talk about having limited space at zoos and wildlife reserves. I have gone the Oklahoma City Zoo and seen some of the larger animals enclosures. Some of the larger cats in particularly seem small holding the seven or eight cats at a time. • 13. Importance Of Animal Rights Animals deserve to have a limited Bill of Rights. Animals are like humans in so many ways and for those reasons they deserve protection from the law protecting them to a certain extent. Research is proving that these animals are more and more like us than we have ever imagined and it's starts to make you reconsider the way we treat these animals. The big question that we all need to ask ourselves is, do animals deserve to have a Bill of Rights ? If these animals are starting to prove that they are evolving to modern society and becoming more like humans than their rights in this society should evolve to those of a human's rights also. These animals lives should not be disturbed and miserable for human entertainment. Animals should not be held against their will all for human entertainment. Holding them in these zoos and aquariums isn't their natural habitat and cause change in many aspects of their lives. Some animals become depressed because they are taken away from their families to then be placed in a cage for the rest of their lives just to be looked at for human entertainment. In his article, "A Change of Heart about Animals," Jeremy Rifkin states that "studies on pigs' social behavior funded by McDonald's at Purdue University... have found that they crave affection and are easily depressed if isolated or denied playtime with each other" (Rifkin). • 14. Imagine being locked in a cage, having thousands of people each day watching, taunting, and provoking you. That image of what just came into your mind is exactly what captive animals feel like all the time, every day. People believe animals should have rights. They need the same type of attention and protection as we humans. "Two–thirds of Americans polled by the press agree with animal rights to live freely." (Tripp, P, 2003, pg 18) For example, the original idea of a zoo was to inform people, common citizens with knowledge of the rare creatures that we would not normally see every day. Somewhere along the way, that was changed. Animals are the same as humans, they have rights, there are multiple signs of neglect, and there are ways you can report animal abuse. Many people think animal abuse is not common, but it's actually more common than you think someone could walk past a house and hear an animal whining and that's one of signs for animal neglect. Animal neglect is caused by humans, not paying attention, feeding, keeping their animals outside or torturing the animal. Animal abuse and neglect can be reduced by the people knowing the causes and reasons of abusing animals. Animals are the same as humans "Over time, humans have realized they could feed, house and care for animals contently close to where they live and kill them when they are ready to other than when they could be caught" (Tripp, P, 2003, pg. 10 ). • 15. Protection Over Animals : Animal Abuse Protection Over Animals We should understand that animals have feelings and have a brain even though they do not have the same physical appearance as we do. I believe people that are caught committing the acts of abuse, the consequences of breaking the animal laws should be strongly enforced. In reality I'm sure that I am not the only person who would love nothing than to help our loving animals to live a full and happy life. The reason for my paper is to reach out to people on how important animals are, just as much as we are important. I also believe that we should all want to help animals and keep them safe from abuse because no living breathing creature deserves to go through that. Animal abusers should have harsher punishments for animal abuse due to the cruelty inflicted on the animals, the rights of animals, and the inhumane things done during animal testing (Report 1). People in our society use our animals for all the wrong reasons. Our pets and wild life are meant to be loved and handled with care, people have always exploited animals. With the people of today's society, some of our wildlife species could become extinct because of the fact that people hunt and kill animals for fun and sport. In the last ten years the idea that animals have rights has gained acceptance in Europe, the United States and Australia. The main arguments in this book is that people should respect the fact that animals do have rights. All animals should be treated with love, care and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. The animal protection movement of the nineteenth century was based on the concept of animal welfare; that is, the moral obligations required by human society. Such morals stem from natural theology, specifically, the Book of Nature, which proposes that humans, the superior beings, should hold dominion over animals, but have mercy, care, and stewardship toward them. From these ideas, the animal protection movement was formed with two responsibilities in mind: first, to address traditional moral concerns, such that an individual pledges to do no harm to animals; and second, to enforce the prevention of cruelty to animals inflicted by others (Fan, 10/28). The first anti–cruelty bill was introduced to Parliament in England in 1800 in an attempt to end bull baiting; this initial legislation was the start of a long effort. In 1822, Colonel Richard Martin succeeded in passing a bill to prevent cruelty to livestock (later amended to include...show more content... A year later, the Cruelty to Animals Act was passed, establishing England's first attempt to regulate experimentation of animals (Guerrini, 90). In the midst of the anti–vivisection legislation, Anna Sewell published Black Beauty, an animal autobiography illustrating the conditions of a working horse in the nineteenth century. Black Beauty exposes the treatment of animals during this time, including the cruelty of accessories such as the "bearing rein," a strap restraining the horse's neck, causing damage and pain. Sewell's novel raised enough public outcries to have the bearing rein abolished in England, and spark anti–cruelty legislation in Get more content on HelpWriting.net

The Third Stage Of The Animal Protection Movement The Animal Protection Movement also underwent the Bureaucratic stage, which is the third stage of development of social movements in sociology. The bureaucratization stage of social movements is the formalization stage that is characterized by high level of organization as swell as coalitions. As such, this makes the social movement a powerful political force. As explained in the book, Thinking Sociology, this is the stage that is symbolized by a myriad of social movements dedicated to animal rights show that this particular concern will not go away (Carl, et al., 2011). In this stage of the Animal Protection Movement, there was significant media visibility, especially in the 1980s. In addition to that vigorous competition among the organizations in this juncture symbolize high level of efficiency in the movement. Strategic thinking by animal advocates was also adopted as an approach to enable justice–based movements that influenced drastic victories for the movement in that decade. Nevertheless, this stage of the Animal Welfare Movements was marked by extensive changes in organizations and the growth of active supporter base for the movement.
