The World Health Organisation Essays
The World Health Organisation
Founded in 1948, the World Health Organization leads the world alliance for health for all. A specialized agency of the United Nations with 191
Member Sates, WHO promotes technical cooperation for health among nations, carries out programmes to control and eradicate disease, and strives to
improve the quality of human life.
WHO has four main functions:
* to give worldwide guidance in the field of health
* to set global standards for health
* to cooperate with governments in strengthening national health programmes
* to develop and transfer appropriate health technology, information and standards

Some projects target vulnerable populations such as the elderly and women. Others focus on encouraging healthy lifestyles, sexual health and
tobacco–free societies.
The impact of the environment on health is a high priority for WHO. One example is access to safe drinking water. WHO puts the highest priority on
the development of community water supplies and sanitation facilities with the AFRICA 2000 initiative. WHO is deeply concerned with prevention
and control of ionising radiation so dramatically highlighted by the Chernobyl nuclear accident. Other issues such as the health effects of
electromagnetic fields and the increasing depletion of the ozone layer, are of major concern.
Scientific and Ethical Action
Improved health is not achieved just with financial resources and high technology. It requires a social conscience and a commitment to share the
advances of health science throughout society.
Every field of health raises ethical questions concerning sex, birth, confidentiality and personal safety. WHO helps safeguard ethical standards by
insisting, for example, that consensus must be reached on what is acceptable in cloning, that there is informed consent when carrying out experiments
with humans, or estimating how much risk should be borne by

Essay on Definitions of Health
Definitions of health
It is fairly difficult to define health as there are no agreements between scholars. This is why many sociologists focus their research on the different
issues and problems of ill health.
Positive definition of health: positive health looks at the physical, emotional, intellectual aspects of a person's wellbeing. This is in the way that they do
not have any diseases or ailments.
An example of the positive definition of health in a health and social care is a nurse in who is working in a hospital can say to one of their patients that
have recently started exercising to become more 'healthier' 'you look very healthy'.
Positive health looks at what aspects of health are there and which ones make us healthy....show more content...
An example of holistic health could be that a psychologist's client may have bipolar disorder and the psychologist would still focus on all of the other
aspects of their client's life and not just on the symptoms the client is experiencing of bipolar disorder.
Holistic health looks as everything as a whole and never different aspects of health individually.
World Health Organisation definition of health: the World Health Organisation defines health as "not merely an absence of disease, but a state of
complete physical, mental, spiritual and social well–being." (2013 K Pritchett Class Notes)
An example of health defined by the World Health Organisation in a health and social care setting could be that in order for a patient of a doctors
surgery to be healthy they would have to have a complete state of physical, mental, spiritual and social well–being. This means that if a patient was in a
wheel chair they could never be seen as healthy as they do not have a complete state of physical well–being.
The World Health Organisation thinks that people must have all complete aspects to be completely healthy.
The Clinical Iceberg
'The Clinical Iceberg' is a term used to call the levels of illnesses that are found from official statistics. This is because some people do not always
seek medical attention when they become ill therefore these official statistics may not be correct and showing the 'true' levels of

I Am A Healthy Life Essay
I'm living a healthy life in most aspects. Fist of all I keep healthy eating habits. I seldom skip breakfast during my weekdays so that I'm energetic
for my classes everyday. I always plan my breakfast the day before, such as bagels or eggs. Breakfast is important so I try to make it fresh and
delightful. Sometimes I drink tea instead of coffee. Black tea is my favorite because caffeine in it is lower than green tea or coffee. I always feel
too excited after drinking coffee. I feel my heart beating faster than usual and my hands may even shake. Usually I don't eat a lot at night, especially
before sleeping. This keeps my stomach healthy and prevents me from getting weight. I prefer eating healthier food rather than fast food such as
burgers and fries. Sushi or other Asian dishes are always my dinner. They are light and balanced innutrition, and good for my digest system. However,
as a college student, I have some unhealthy behaviors which are common between me and my friends. The first one is, I always sleep after 12:00
am at night and it can be later during the weekends. As a result of sleeping late at night, sometimes it is hard for me to get up early in the morning.
On the weekends I always wake up after 11:00 am. This is very unhealthy because I skip my breakfast and also my biological changes. I have to get
used to the healthy routine again every Monday. Another bad behavior is that I seldom do any exercises. I used to do it for few times every week, but
later I

Patient Satisfaction Survey Metrics
Brenda– I am going to play devils advocate a bit here in regard to health care centers using patient satisfaction survey measures to improve the quality
of care they provide to patients. Of course nurse and patient satisfaction surveys play an important role in keeping health care providers accountable
for the patient care they deliver and ensuring nursing staffing levels are adequate to guarantee patient safety in medical settings. However, having
worked in the health care arena for fifteen years, there are times that patient satisfaction survey metrics can be detrimental to health care providers'
careers and the quality of patient care delivered. For instance, Robbins (2015) explains sometimes health care providers will go out of their way to
give patients what...show more content...
Most patients know that giving antibiotics when it is not clinically indicated is wasteful and in the long–run cause antibiotic resistance in patients.
Unfortunately, some patients get seriously irritated when they ask for antibiotics and are not given them, even after the health care clearly explains
why they are not warranted. Some health care providers just back down and give the patient what they want to avoid upsetting them even more and
causing them to complain or potentially write negative reviews of the care they received. Thus, patient satisfaction surveys are useful when the
information supplied is used in context and not blown out of portion when patients' demands are unrealistic. In the example you provided regarding
maintaining adequate nurse staffing levels, I think it might be more useful for health care centers to utilize nursing satisfaction surveys and the medical
error metrics to ensure quality health care is being provided to patients. Also, my organization encourages nurses to report near misses (when nurses
come close to making medical errors, but are able to avoid patient injuries) that occur, in the hope that they can correct future circumstances that could
cause harm to

Importance Of Healthy Lifestyle Essay
Health is very important. It's how you treat yourself and how you define it. It's very important to maintain a healthy lifestyle. One should make
time for everything within their busy lifestyle for things like sleep, exercise and eat healthy. I believe that those are necessary factors for an
everyday lifestyle. I know that for myself I would want to prevent diseases in any possible way that I can. In order for myself to accomplish this, I try
to take care of myself as much as I can. To feel emotionally and physically healthy I always fit in the time and effort to add those factors to my
everyday life.
What does it mean to be emotionally and physically healthy? Well, in my definition it means that I shouldn't let myself down and I should have
positive thoughts about everything that makes me happy. Physically healthy I think for myself should be that I take the time to do some sort of
physical activity and eating well most of the time so I can feel good about myself.
Being happy is also a major factor. One thing that I have learned over time is that being fit is not the only way that you can feel fresh. When I feel
that I am healthy, I feel like I have all the energy in the world. Feeling healthy just makes me feel more alive and that way I'm more productive. I
don't slack around and do nothing. I'm able to stay focused on school, go to the gym, and also go to work. It makes it easier for me to do all these
things rather than complain about all of the workloads and not doing

Essay on Health and Diet
As Joseph Campbell says "Your life is the fruit of your own doing. You have no one to blame but yourself." The majority of people in our society
affirm that the best solution for our health problems is 'magic bullet'. We say that because it is the only way we find to get easy and fast results from
it. When we take the magic bullet we do not think about the consequences, but then after the bad reaction, we want to blame it on the doctors or
business companies that sell it. What can we do to stop society from use magic bullet as the best solution to their health problems? Here are three
reasons why we should not use a magic bullet as our best solution. The magic bullet is easy for us, but not a permanent solution; it is faster to take the
pain away, but addictive; Magic bullet also saves our lives but give problems in the future.
First, we should not depend on the magic bullet because it is a temporary easy solution. People think of 'magic bullet' as a medicine that cures our
illness like magic that happens from a day to a night. Yes, it's true! However, the magic bullet does not cure us forever because business companies
want to keep making money. For example, if we read the article Doctor With MS Makes Film on Collapse of US Healthcare we will see a line that the
author says "We a taught a disease and then we are taught the medication." Which means that those business companies who make the medication pay

Definition Of Health
My definition of health is when one feels an overall sensation of healthiness across all 7 aspects of health. A person who focuses independently on
each aspect of health, views them as separate entities, and in doing so tries to improve them each individually without thoughts of the other aspects,
will rarely ever reach a state of good health. One achieves health through the recognition that all the aspects of health are interconnected and changes
in one aspect directly or indirectly influence others and application of this knowledge to their everyday life. At this time in my life, not all 7 dimensions
of health are equal to me. As a stressed out first year science student I am personally placing more emphasis on my intellectual/mental health, my
emotional health, and my occupational health. My ambition to learn and achieve high grades has left me in a position where I find I often neglect my
physical health, social health, environmental health, and spiritual health by isolating...show more content...
Considering that these are only two of the seven aspects of health, and that one should be healthy in all seven aspects to be considered truly healthy,
this statement is false. An example of someone who is unhealthy yet looks fine and is not in pain would perhaps be someone who is unsatisfied with
their career and has taken to isolating themselves from their family, friends, and coworkers; while they appear physically fit and possibly even in good
mental health, they are not healthy occupationally or socially and if they stay in this situation long enough, they might begin to see the negative effects
of this unhealthiness in other aspects of their

Essay On Home Health Care
Imagine being born with a severely weak immune system. A person like this is in constant paranoia because the risk of getting sick with
pulmonary disease/infection is extremely high and their life expectancy may be lower than someone with a 'normal' or healthy immune system.
Moving In and out of hospitals is now a way of life for them. The average person does not have to deal with such burdens; but, for a person living
with diseases such as cystic fibrosis or a person undergoing chemotherapy, it is a daily reality. Cystic fibrosis is a genetic disease that impairs lung
function and causes many infections. People with cystic fibrosis, and other people with immune disorders are likely to be in the hospital many days
out of the year because...show more content...
A small study done with cystic fibrosis patients found that thirty six percent of them were infected with the bacteria Pseudomonas aeruginosa, one of
many bacterial species cultured from their homes (Schelstraete). It is general knowledge that most people spend a majority of their day/night in their
home, and people with chronic and lethal diseases tend to spend more time than most. If they become sick, it is likely that they developed their
sickness from exposure to germs found inside of their home. For people with autoimmune disorders, a simple cold could quite possibly be fatal. Not
only does hospital–grade environmental control technology prevent exposure to pathogenic bacteria, and therefore prevent infection, but it also helps
to prevent psychological issues that could develop from being stuck in a hospital, isolated from loved ones. If the child or adult with such an immune
disorder is able to recover from illness and prevent infection in their own home, the quality of their life would greatly increase. The Southern Medical
Journal published a study done on hospital patients. Patients who were isolated in the hospital for extremely poor immune systems had a much higher
rate of depression and anxiety than patients who did not have to be isolated (Catalano, et. al). Not only are patients isolated from the outside

Healthy Lifestyle : A Healthy Life Essay
Everyone talks about living a healthy life, however, very few people actually make an effort to live one out in their day to day lives. Many people
believe a healthy life implies looking good and feeling good, but what does a healthy life really look like? In today's society, a healthy person is
described as one who does not smoke, does not drink in excess, has a healthy weight, eats healthy foods and exercises regularly. How many of us
actually do all these things? In this day and age, it is not easy to commit to a healthy lifestyle because healthy food can be expensive and people are too
busy to exercise daily, however, leading a healthy life is one of the best decisions a person can make because it will impact all aspects of their life–
physical, mental, and emotional (Lewis NP). "Every food we eat provides the body with a range of nutrients, each with its own role to play. Eating a
balanced, varied diet every day will ensure that you have everything you need for good health, including foods that provide energy, fiber, protein,
carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, and minerals" ("Food for Life"). According to Healthy Lifestyles Living, "Many health issues are addressed with exercise,
nutrition, and other healthy practices in one's day to day life." Although nutrition and adequate amounts of exercise are key importance's to being
healthy, there are many misconceptions about what healthy nutrition really looks like. Good nutrition is an important part of leading a healthy

Healthcare in the United States Essay
Healthcare in the United States is rooted in the private sector. The private sector directly funds 56% of the expenditures through private health
insurance, household expenditures and copays, and other private expenditures. (CMS, 2014) The US healthcare system can thank the private sector for
providing much strength such as new diagnostic technologies, innovative treatments and procedures, and dynamism. American hospitals and
physicians are regarded internationally as being of high quality. Americans can also be proud that the physician– patient relationship is among the most
trusted and valued relationships in the country. By allowing the private sector to take a lead role in the healthcare system, the United States values

(Elhauge, 2010). Fragmentation leads to duplication of tests and effort. Often, physicians do not have test results and notes from prior treatments. This
results in wasteful duplication of efforts. Fragmentation leads to unplanned hospitalizations. Approximately 20% of discharged Medicare patients are
re–hospitalized within thirty days. (Jencks, Williams, Coleman, 2009) It is estimated that only 10% of those readmissions are planned. (Jencks,
Williams, Coleman, 2009) Patients can receive better continuation of care if their doctors coordinated better, if there was better discharge planning and
incentives for providers to control costs after the patient has been discharged. A patient centered medical home (PCMH) could integrate patient care. A
patient centered medial home is a team of healthcare providers coming together to improve the health of a specific population. A PCMH is designed to
integrate primary care and specialists into improve care coordination, safety and quality.(Stange, et al 2010) A PCMH would also improve physician
training and development to provide a commitment to treat the whole patient, rather than just one part.(Stange, et al 2010) Healthcare fragmentation
can also be limited through improved communication between providers using e–mail and social media tools such as facebook and twitter. Physicians
and hospitals are also paid with a fragmented and confusing mix of public and private payments. In the private sector

Health Care Persuasive Essay
When it comes to our health, a good healthcare plan is a very important subject for all individuals. Some even argue that it is a basic right to have
one. Bernie Sanders stated, "Healthcare must be recognized as a right, not a privilege. Every man, woman, and child in our country should be
able to access the health care they need regardless of their income..." ("Issues: Medicare for All"). However, reality tells us a whole different story.
America is one of the most developed countries in the world with some of the best medical care. Yet, how can the people enjoy the benefits when
it is almost unaffordable to most. People are afraid to fall sick just because they are afraid of how much it would cost. However, sometimes a
doctor or hospital visit is unavoidable. In most cases, it comes at a great price, especially to the middle class and the elderly. Wealthy individuals
are likely to reap the benefits of having an expensive healthcare plan, while the rest may suffer from the unimaginable cost of treatments, or even
worse, live a risky life without insurance. An effective solution to this problem would be a Universal Healthcare System. This would ensure that all
people have equal and affordable health coverage, centralized healthcare records for all individuals which will help easy diagnosis by doctors and
reduce the intensive labor costs of medical billing. Moreover, it may boost the economy by freeing business from providing expensive healthcare
benefits to workers. According to World Health Organization, "Universal Health Coverage means that all people and communities can use the
promotive, preventive, curative, rehabilitative and palliative health services they need, of sufficient quality to be effective, while also ensuring that
the use of these services does not expose the user to financial hardship". (WHO.int) By doing so, we give the people the opportunity to be equal to the
rest of the society. Since the cost of a healthcare plan is beyond most people's budget in the United States, the average person spends more money on
healthcare insurance than groceries and housing together. This condition leads many to have no coverage at all. In fact, there are over 45 million
uninsured residents in the U.S. in it

means to me the condition in which your body is, which could be poor or good health. The mind, spirit, physicality would pertain all to the state of

Essay About Being Healthy
Having a healthy lifestyle is a treasure in one's life. Being healthy means taking care of the brain, body and know what to do and what to eat.
Many people think that eating diet food makes them be healthy and fitness but it is not true. Diets usually means eating special kinds of food or a
little amount of it to lose weight. This way of depriving self of eating diverse types of food and focus on specific types that have low calories to
avoid gaining extra weight is not healthy. Although losing weight can be considered a way to be healthy, but this is not the main idea. There are three
important ways to stay healthy, such eating healthy food, doing physical activity, and getting enough sleep. The first step for being healthy is eating
healthy food. Eating healthy food is very important to the human body which it keeps human stay alive. "Let food be thy medicine and medicine be

more effective than sleeping in the daytime. Getting enough sleep at night gives the body and brain more energy, leading to feeling better, and be
more productive. Around 40% of Americans get 7 or more hours of sleep at night, while 60% get less than 7 hours. Lack of sleep could harm the body

these things the person must sleep at least 7 hours a day. Having enough sleep for 7–9 hours can help to protect mental health, physical health, and

Health and well–being is a high priority in current health and social care provision. The importance of promoting health and well–being is due to the
dramatically increasing trend of morbidity and mortality from health problems, illness and chronic disease. Physiotherapists have potentially a

the culture and value systems in which they live and in relation to their goals, expectations, standards and concerns." (WHOQOL, 1995).
Socioeconomic status tends to be inversely related to participation in leisure–time physical activity, which may be related to people with low incomes
having less discretionary time and less access to exercise facilities and green spaces (McNeill et al., 2006) In developed countries, people tend to have
a sedentary lifestyle which can leads to higher levels of obesity, therefore lower overall well–being. A study shown "The percentage of all deaths in
England with obesity on the certificate doubled from 0.11% in 1995 to 0.23% in 2006." (NHS choices, 2010) The researchers concluded: "There is an
emerging trend of increased certification of obesity as a cause of death in England." (NHS choices, 2010) Levels of obesity are increasing dramatically
and, if current trends continue, around 90% of men and 80% of women will be overweight or obese by 2050. (Black, DC, 2008).

There are different ways to think about health and wellbeing. Wellbeing is about how people feel about themselves, feeling healthy, happy and wealthy.
Having a good self–concept provides an individual a feeling of wellbeing. Health is a having a state of sound body and mind. Health and wellbeing are
made up of four aspects, physical, intellectual, emotional and social. These are the aspects that support individuals to keep their strength up and get

Emotional health this is the capability to differentiate emotions such as fear, joy, grief, anger, and to express these applicably. It also holds the ability

Taking Care Of Myself : My Health Status Essay
Taking Care of Myself This is not the first time that I was invited to reflect on my life, and as it had been in the past, I would not hold back and be
honest in my self–appraisal. In the last couple of years, my health has not been as great as it used to be. Thanks to the torn menisci on my knees.
Indeed, there is much to be desired in my current health status. However, as had been observed, nurses make some of the worst patients. I ignore
my body's signals to go slow and take it easy. Many times I find myself scurrying around, not mindful of my aching knees, the need to use the
bathroom, or take time for break. I am an antithesis of what I urged my patients to be. In a sense, I feel that I preach empty words to my patients
and that my actions belie my words. Reflecting on my current health status, I realize that I have to stop being a type A person and let go the image
of the nurse as a superhuman, but, rather, as a person who has basic needs just like everyone else. I Am Stressed Out One cause of my stress

Essay about Health and Wellbeing
In society today, there is an extensive range of definitions of health and wellbeing which can be seen as both positive and negative. A Holistic view
can also be identified and defined. These definitions of health have changed over time and will carry on changing within the future. According to
where a family lives or their social class everyone will have different meanings and views of health and wellbeing. This may be due to what one
person perceives as being healthy as another person may not. Channel 4 learning (no date) describes that a positive view of health can be seen as

According to Floyd, Mimms and Yelding (2008) Webster's Dictionary defines health as "the condition of being sound in body, mind and spirit...
freedom from physical disease or pain." This definition has very much taken the holistic view. Wellbeing is a term in which reflects on the positive
emphasis on health and can be broken down into six aspects know as environmental, physical, social, emotional, mental and spiritual. To achieve a
high balance of wellbeing it is vital that a person is able to balance and take care of each aspect effectively. Underdown (2007) implies that in 1948 the
World Health Organization(WHO) defines health as 'a state of complete physical, mental and social well–being and not just the absence of disease or
infirmity.' This definition took a holistic view as it mentions mental and social wellbeing and it was supported as it focused on a person being healthy
rather than not being ill. However, this definition has been widely criticized. Seedhouse (1986) believed that for someone to be in perfect state of
health is unachievable and unrealistic.
There is a wide range of major genetic, social and environmental factors which influence the health and wellbeing of children in today's society.

Essay On Healthcare In The United States
Healthcare in the United States The biggest issue in America is not just hunger, education, and crime– but health care. Perhaps the cause of these other
issues, health care is expensive and hard to access. The high cost is tolerated in the belief that more expensive health care leads to better care. This is
not true, as studies show that 20% to 30% of patients are issued the wrong treatment or medicine. These medical errors have caused thousands of lives
to be lost– at a higher cost. As more Americans are aware of our low ranking in worldwide health care– Japan, Sweden, and Canada making the top
three–the need for a nationwide health care reform is much debated. Even with other great countries to mirror we are still hesitant in reforming health
care to make it accessible to every American citizen. Although the United States guarantees it's citizens access to fire and police services, protection by
military, national postal service, and education as well as many other free federal– and state–funded services they have yet to commit to ensuring them

everyone without making a profit. Japan has more privately owned hospitals than America. This model can be funded several different ways for
cost–control. The reason we have not changed our healthcare system is because of federal debt. Half of the health care costs are paid by the
government. This debt will be America's downfall, but also the healthcare reform it so desperately

WHO Leads Global Health Efforts

  • 1. The World Health Organisation Essays The World Health Organisation Founded in 1948, the World Health Organization leads the world alliance for health for all. A specialized agency of the United Nations with 191 Member Sates, WHO promotes technical cooperation for health among nations, carries out programmes to control and eradicate disease, and strives to improve the quality of human life. WHO has four main functions: * to give worldwide guidance in the field of health * to set global standards for health * to cooperate with governments in strengthening national health programmes * to develop and transfer appropriate health technology, information and standards The WHO definition of health:...show more content... Some projects target vulnerable populations such as the elderly and women. Others focus on encouraging healthy lifestyles, sexual health and tobacco–free societies. The impact of the environment on health is a high priority for WHO. One example is access to safe drinking water. WHO puts the highest priority on the development of community water supplies and sanitation facilities with the AFRICA 2000 initiative. WHO is deeply concerned with prevention and control of ionising radiation so dramatically highlighted by the Chernobyl nuclear accident. Other issues such as the health effects of electromagnetic fields and the increasing depletion of the ozone layer, are of major concern. Scientific and Ethical Action
  • 2. Improved health is not achieved just with financial resources and high technology. It requires a social conscience and a commitment to share the advances of health science throughout society. Every field of health raises ethical questions concerning sex, birth, confidentiality and personal safety. WHO helps safeguard ethical standards by insisting, for example, that consensus must be reached on what is acceptable in cloning, that there is informed consent when carrying out experiments with humans, or estimating how much risk should be borne by Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Essay on Definitions of Health Definitions of health It is fairly difficult to define health as there are no agreements between scholars. This is why many sociologists focus their research on the different issues and problems of ill health. Positive definition of health: positive health looks at the physical, emotional, intellectual aspects of a person's wellbeing. This is in the way that they do not have any diseases or ailments. An example of the positive definition of health in a health and social care is a nurse in who is working in a hospital can say to one of their patients that have recently started exercising to become more 'healthier' 'you look very healthy'. Positive health looks at what aspects of health are there and which ones make us healthy....show more content... An example of holistic health could be that a psychologist's client may have bipolar disorder and the psychologist would still focus on all of the other aspects of their client's life and not just on the symptoms the client is experiencing of bipolar disorder. Holistic health looks as everything as a whole and never different aspects of health individually. World Health Organisation definition of health: the World Health Organisation defines health as "not merely an absence of disease, but a state of complete physical, mental, spiritual and social well–being." (2013 K Pritchett Class Notes) An example of health defined by the World Health Organisation in a health and social care setting could be that in order for a patient of a doctors surgery to be healthy they would have to have a complete state of physical, mental, spiritual and social well–being. This means that if a patient was in a wheel chair they could never be seen as healthy as they do not have a complete state of physical well–being. The World Health Organisation thinks that people must have all complete aspects to be completely healthy. The Clinical Iceberg 'The Clinical Iceberg' is a term used to call the levels of illnesses that are found from official statistics. This is because some people do not always seek medical attention when they become ill therefore these official statistics may not be correct and showing the 'true' levels of Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. I Am A Healthy Life Essay I'm living a healthy life in most aspects. Fist of all I keep healthy eating habits. I seldom skip breakfast during my weekdays so that I'm energetic for my classes everyday. I always plan my breakfast the day before, such as bagels or eggs. Breakfast is important so I try to make it fresh and delightful. Sometimes I drink tea instead of coffee. Black tea is my favorite because caffeine in it is lower than green tea or coffee. I always feel too excited after drinking coffee. I feel my heart beating faster than usual and my hands may even shake. Usually I don't eat a lot at night, especially before sleeping. This keeps my stomach healthy and prevents me from getting weight. I prefer eating healthier food rather than fast food such as burgers and fries. Sushi or other Asian dishes are always my dinner. They are light and balanced innutrition, and good for my digest system. However, as a college student, I have some unhealthy behaviors which are common between me and my friends. The first one is, I always sleep after 12:00 am at night and it can be later during the weekends. As a result of sleeping late at night, sometimes it is hard for me to get up early in the morning. On the weekends I always wake up after 11:00 am. This is very unhealthy because I skip my breakfast and also my biological changes. I have to get used to the healthy routine again every Monday. Another bad behavior is that I seldom do any exercises. I used to do it for few times every week, but later I Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Patient Satisfaction Survey Metrics Brenda– I am going to play devils advocate a bit here in regard to health care centers using patient satisfaction survey measures to improve the quality of care they provide to patients. Of course nurse and patient satisfaction surveys play an important role in keeping health care providers accountable for the patient care they deliver and ensuring nursing staffing levels are adequate to guarantee patient safety in medical settings. However, having worked in the health care arena for fifteen years, there are times that patient satisfaction survey metrics can be detrimental to health care providers' careers and the quality of patient care delivered. For instance, Robbins (2015) explains sometimes health care providers will go out of their way to give patients what...show more content... Most patients know that giving antibiotics when it is not clinically indicated is wasteful and in the long–run cause antibiotic resistance in patients. Unfortunately, some patients get seriously irritated when they ask for antibiotics and are not given them, even after the health care clearly explains why they are not warranted. Some health care providers just back down and give the patient what they want to avoid upsetting them even more and causing them to complain or potentially write negative reviews of the care they received. Thus, patient satisfaction surveys are useful when the information supplied is used in context and not blown out of portion when patients' demands are unrealistic. In the example you provided regarding maintaining adequate nurse staffing levels, I think it might be more useful for health care centers to utilize nursing satisfaction surveys and the medical error metrics to ensure quality health care is being provided to patients. Also, my organization encourages nurses to report near misses (when nurses come close to making medical errors, but are able to avoid patient injuries) that occur, in the hope that they can correct future circumstances that could cause harm to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Importance Of Healthy Lifestyle Essay Health is very important. It's how you treat yourself and how you define it. It's very important to maintain a healthy lifestyle. One should make time for everything within their busy lifestyle for things like sleep, exercise and eat healthy. I believe that those are necessary factors for an everyday lifestyle. I know that for myself I would want to prevent diseases in any possible way that I can. In order for myself to accomplish this, I try to take care of myself as much as I can. To feel emotionally and physically healthy I always fit in the time and effort to add those factors to my everyday life. What does it mean to be emotionally and physically healthy? Well, in my definition it means that I shouldn't let myself down and I should have positive thoughts about everything that makes me happy. Physically healthy I think for myself should be that I take the time to do some sort of physical activity and eating well most of the time so I can feel good about myself. Being happy is also a major factor. One thing that I have learned over time is that being fit is not the only way that you can feel fresh. When I feel that I am healthy, I feel like I have all the energy in the world. Feeling healthy just makes me feel more alive and that way I'm more productive. I don't slack around and do nothing. I'm able to stay focused on school, go to the gym, and also go to work. It makes it easier for me to do all these things rather than complain about all of the workloads and not doing Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Persuasive Essay On Health And Health Essay on Health and Diet As Joseph Campbell says "Your life is the fruit of your own doing. You have no one to blame but yourself." The majority of people in our society affirm that the best solution for our health problems is 'magic bullet'. We say that because it is the only way we find to get easy and fast results from it. When we take the magic bullet we do not think about the consequences, but then after the bad reaction, we want to blame it on the doctors or business companies that sell it. What can we do to stop society from use magic bullet as the best solution to their health problems? Here are three reasons why we should not use a magic bullet as our best solution. The magic bullet is easy for us, but not a permanent solution; it is faster to take the pain away, but addictive; Magic bullet also saves our lives but give problems in the future. First, we should not depend on the magic bullet because it is a temporary easy solution. People think of 'magic bullet' as a medicine that cures our illness like magic that happens from a day to a night. Yes, it's true! However, the magic bullet does not cure us forever because business companies want to keep making money. For example, if we read the article Doctor With MS Makes Film on Collapse of US Healthcare we will see a line that the author says "We a taught a disease and then we are taught the medication." Which means that those business companies who make the medication pay hospital and medical school to lest talk Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Definition Of Health My definition of health is when one feels an overall sensation of healthiness across all 7 aspects of health. A person who focuses independently on each aspect of health, views them as separate entities, and in doing so tries to improve them each individually without thoughts of the other aspects, will rarely ever reach a state of good health. One achieves health through the recognition that all the aspects of health are interconnected and changes in one aspect directly or indirectly influence others and application of this knowledge to their everyday life. At this time in my life, not all 7 dimensions of health are equal to me. As a stressed out first year science student I am personally placing more emphasis on my intellectual/mental health, my emotional health, and my occupational health. My ambition to learn and achieve high grades has left me in a position where I find I often neglect my physical health, social health, environmental health, and spiritual health by isolating...show more content... Considering that these are only two of the seven aspects of health, and that one should be healthy in all seven aspects to be considered truly healthy, this statement is false. An example of someone who is unhealthy yet looks fine and is not in pain would perhaps be someone who is unsatisfied with their career and has taken to isolating themselves from their family, friends, and coworkers; while they appear physically fit and possibly even in good mental health, they are not healthy occupationally or socially and if they stay in this situation long enough, they might begin to see the negative effects of this unhealthiness in other aspects of their Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Essay On Home Health Care Imagine being born with a severely weak immune system. A person like this is in constant paranoia because the risk of getting sick with pulmonary disease/infection is extremely high and their life expectancy may be lower than someone with a 'normal' or healthy immune system. Moving In and out of hospitals is now a way of life for them. The average person does not have to deal with such burdens; but, for a person living with diseases such as cystic fibrosis or a person undergoing chemotherapy, it is a daily reality. Cystic fibrosis is a genetic disease that impairs lung function and causes many infections. People with cystic fibrosis, and other people with immune disorders are likely to be in the hospital many days out of the year because...show more content... A small study done with cystic fibrosis patients found that thirty six percent of them were infected with the bacteria Pseudomonas aeruginosa, one of many bacterial species cultured from their homes (Schelstraete). It is general knowledge that most people spend a majority of their day/night in their home, and people with chronic and lethal diseases tend to spend more time than most. If they become sick, it is likely that they developed their sickness from exposure to germs found inside of their home. For people with autoimmune disorders, a simple cold could quite possibly be fatal. Not only does hospital–grade environmental control technology prevent exposure to pathogenic bacteria, and therefore prevent infection, but it also helps to prevent psychological issues that could develop from being stuck in a hospital, isolated from loved ones. If the child or adult with such an immune disorder is able to recover from illness and prevent infection in their own home, the quality of their life would greatly increase. The Southern Medical Journal published a study done on hospital patients. Patients who were isolated in the hospital for extremely poor immune systems had a much higher rate of depression and anxiety than patients who did not have to be isolated (Catalano, et. al). Not only are patients isolated from the outside Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Healthy Lifestyle : A Healthy Life Essay Everyone talks about living a healthy life, however, very few people actually make an effort to live one out in their day to day lives. Many people believe a healthy life implies looking good and feeling good, but what does a healthy life really look like? In today's society, a healthy person is described as one who does not smoke, does not drink in excess, has a healthy weight, eats healthy foods and exercises regularly. How many of us actually do all these things? In this day and age, it is not easy to commit to a healthy lifestyle because healthy food can be expensive and people are too busy to exercise daily, however, leading a healthy life is one of the best decisions a person can make because it will impact all aspects of their life– physical, mental, and emotional (Lewis NP). "Every food we eat provides the body with a range of nutrients, each with its own role to play. Eating a balanced, varied diet every day will ensure that you have everything you need for good health, including foods that provide energy, fiber, protein, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, and minerals" ("Food for Life"). According to Healthy Lifestyles Living, "Many health issues are addressed with exercise, nutrition, and other healthy practices in one's day to day life." Although nutrition and adequate amounts of exercise are key importance's to being healthy, there are many misconceptions about what healthy nutrition really looks like. • 11. Healthcare in the United States Essay Healthcare in the United States is rooted in the private sector. The private sector directly funds 56% of the expenditures through private health insurance, household expenditures and copays, and other private expenditures. (CMS, 2014) The US healthcare system can thank the private sector for providing much strength such as new diagnostic technologies, innovative treatments and procedures, and dynamism. American hospitals and physicians are regarded internationally as being of high quality. Americans can also be proud that the physician– patient relationship is among the most trusted and valued relationships in the country. Often, physicians do not have test results and notes from prior treatments. This results in wasteful duplication of efforts. Fragmentation leads to unplanned hospitalizations. Approximately 20% of discharged Medicare patients are re–hospitalized within thirty days. (Jencks, Williams, Coleman, 2009) It is estimated that only 10% of those readmissions are planned. (Jencks, Williams, Coleman, 2009) Patients can receive better continuation of care if their doctors coordinated better, if there was better discharge planning and incentives for providers to control costs after the patient has been discharged. A patient centered medical home (PCMH) could integrate patient care. A patient centered medial home is a team of healthcare providers coming together to improve the health of a specific population. A PCMH is designed to integrate primary care and specialists into improve care coordination, safety and quality.(Stange, et al 2010) A PCMH would also improve physician training and development to provide a commitment to treat the whole patient, rather than just one part.(Stange, et al 2010) Healthcare fragmentation can also be limited through improved communication between providers using e–mail and social media tools such as facebook and twitter. • 12. Health Care Persuasive Essay When it comes to our health, a good healthcare plan is a very important subject for all individuals. Some even argue that it is a basic right to have one. Bernie Sanders stated, "Healthcare must be recognized as a right, not a privilege. Every man, woman, and child in our country should be able to access the health care they need regardless of their income..." ("Issues: Medicare for All"). However, reality tells us a whole different story. America is one of the most developed countries in the world with some of the best medical care. Yet, how can the people enjoy the benefits when it is almost unaffordable to most. People are afraid to fall sick just because they are afraid of how much it would cost. However, sometimes a doctor or hospital visit is unavoidable. In most cases, it comes at a great price, especially to the middle class and the elderly. Wealthy individuals are likely to reap the benefits of having an expensive healthcare plan, while the rest may suffer from the unimaginable cost of treatments, or even worse, live a risky life without insurance. An effective solution to this problem would be a Universal Healthcare System. This would ensure that all people have equal and affordable health coverage, centralized healthcare records for all individuals which will help easy diagnosis by doctors and reduce the intensive labor costs of medical billing. Moreover, it may boost the economy by freeing business from providing expensive healthcare benefits to workers. According to World Health Organization, "Universal Health Coverage means that all people and communities can use the promotive, preventive, curative, rehabilitative and palliative health services they need, of sufficient quality to be effective, while also ensuring that the use of these services does not expose the user to financial hardship". (WHO.int) By doing so, we give the people the opportunity to be equal to the rest of the society. Since the cost of a healthcare plan is beyond most people's budget in the United States, the average person spends more money on healthcare insurance than groceries and housing together. This condition leads many to have no coverage at all. In fact, there are over 45 million uninsured residents in the U.S. in it Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Many people think that eating diet food makes them be healthy and fitness but it is not true. Diets usually means eating special kinds of food or a little amount of it to lose weight. Although losing weight can be considered a way to be healthy, but this is not the main idea. (WHOQOL, 1995). Socioeconomic status tends to be inversely related to participation in leisure–time physical activity, which may be related to people with low incomes having less discretionary time and less access to exercise facilities and green spaces (McNeill et al., 2006) In developed countries, people tend to have a sedentary lifestyle which can leads to higher levels of obesity, therefore lower overall well–being. A study shown "The percentage of all deaths in England with obesity on the certificate doubled from 0.11% in 1995 to 0.23% in 2006." (NHS choices, 2010) The researchers concluded: "There is an emerging trend of increased certification of obesity as a cause of death in England." (NHS choices, 2010) Levels of obesity are increasing dramatically and, if current trends continue, around 90% of men and 80% of women will be overweight or obese by 2050. (Black, DC, 2008). • 18. Taking Care Of Myself : My Health Status Essay Taking Care of Myself This is not the first time that I was invited to reflect on my life, and as it had been in the past, I would not hold back and be honest in my self–appraisal. In the last couple of years, my health has not been as great as it used to be. Thanks to the torn menisci on my knees. Indeed, there is much to be desired in my current health status. However, as had been observed, nurses make some of the worst patients. I ignore my body's signals to go slow and take it easy. Many times I find myself scurrying around, not mindful of my aching knees, the need to use the bathroom, or take time for break. I am an antithesis of what I urged my patients to be. In a sense, I feel that I preach empty words to my patients and that my actions belie my words. Reflecting on my current health status, I realize that I have to stop being a type A person and let go the image of the nurse as a superhuman, but, rather, as a person who has basic needs just like everyone else. I Am Stressed Out One cause of my stress relates to the anticipation of the completion of the BSN program by 2017. There are only three remaining courses I need to take. So far, I have done quite well with all the completed courses. However, I am concerned about the one course that I intend to take in the traditional classroom setting. I still need to scout around for a college near my place that will offer the course in Spring of 2017. I am running out of time and before I know Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. Essay about Health and Wellbeing In society today, there is an extensive range of definitions of health and wellbeing which can be seen as both positive and negative. A Holistic view can also be identified and defined. These definitions of health have changed over time and will carry on changing within the future. According to where a family lives or their social class everyone will have different meanings and views of health and wellbeing. This may be due to what one person perceives as being healthy as another person may not. Channel 4 learning (no date) describes that a positive view of health can be seen as when a person is more likely to achieve and sustain physical fitness from exercising and are mentally stable. Therefor a negative view can be described when a...show more content... According to Floyd, Mimms and Yelding (2008) Webster's Dictionary defines health as "the condition of being sound in body, mind and spirit... freedom from physical disease or pain." This definition has very much taken the holistic view. Wellbeing is a term in which reflects on the positive emphasis on health and can be broken down into six aspects know as environmental, physical, social, emotional, mental and spiritual. To achieve a high balance of wellbeing it is vital that a person is able to balance and take care of each aspect effectively. Underdown (2007) implies that in 1948 the World Health Organization(WHO) defines health as 'a state of complete physical, mental and social well–being and not just the absence of disease or infirmity.' This definition took a holistic view as it mentions mental and social wellbeing and it was supported as it focused on a person being healthy rather than not being ill. However, this definition has been widely criticized. Seedhouse (1986) believed that for someone to be in perfect state of health is unachievable and unrealistic. There is a wide range of major genetic, social and environmental factors which influence the health and wellbeing of children in today's society. According to The Marmot Review (2011) the more deprived the area or district which a child lives in, the more likely it is to have social and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 20. Essay On Healthcare In The United States Healthcare in the United States The biggest issue in America is not just hunger, education, and crime– but health care. Perhaps the cause of these other issues, health care is expensive and hard to access. The high cost is tolerated in the belief that more expensive health care leads to better care. This is not true, as studies show that 20% to 30% of patients are issued the wrong treatment or medicine. These medical errors have caused thousands of lives to be lost– at a higher cost. As more Americans are aware of our low ranking in worldwide health care– Japan, Sweden, and Canada making the top three–the need for a nationwide health care reform is much debated. Even with other great countries to mirror we are still hesitant in reforming health care to make it accessible to every American citizen. Although the United States guarantees it's citizens access to fire and police services, protection by military, national postal service, and education as well as many other free federal– and state–funded services they have yet to commit to ensuring them health care coverage. The Affordable Care Act allows affordable healthcare to individuals with low–income–...show more content... Citizens in America obtain healthcare either through an employer, Medicare, or ,for the forty–five million, out–of–pocket. The number one in healthcare, Japan, uses the Bismarck model system– healthcare through insurance. America is almost the same, except the Bismarck insurance insures everyone without making a profit. Japan has more privately owned hospitals than America. This model can be funded several different ways for cost–control. The reason we have not changed our healthcare system is because of federal debt. Half of the health care costs are paid by the government. This debt will be America's downfall, but also the healthcare reform it so desperately Get more content on HelpWriting.net
