Since 2000, I have performed around the Chicago and the surrounding area at
numerous functions, offering diverse genres of musical selections at locations
such as: University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) basketball games and its veterans;
the Taste of Chicago Humana Pavilion, conferences, local clubs, coffee houses
and private parties. I have been fortunate to have been under the tutelage of
several extremely talented individuals:
• Alan Baldwin, producer extraordinaire, who spoke to me when I first began
this journey in earnest, thanks to my amazing mother, Helen Charity, a
great singer in her own right;
• The late Billy Brown, a multifaceted musician and voice instructor who was
an industry expert for nearly 50 years.
• The late Clarence Jasper (“CJ, your singing KJ”), a musician and vocalist
(The Magnificents, Masheen Company, CJ’s All Star Revue, performing
Classic R & B, Country, Pop, Standards, Disco, etc.) CJ was in the business
and inspiring people to find the singer within for nearly half a century;
• The late music instructor Gerald Springs, who oversaw a jazz workshop in
Hyde Park founded by the legendary Jimmy Ellis;
• Lady Sax®, an enormously gifted and experienced one-woman show. She
has graced many stages around the globe in her many hats as musician
(saxophone), vocalist (Jazz, R&B, inspirational), songwriter, producer and
playwright.
• The peerless living legend Rev. Dr. Lena McLin, composer of over 400
pieces of music, vocal instructor and pastor, who infuses her pure spirit in
all who are fortunate to be in her presence in class or church.

Here are some highlights of my career and musical journey, testimonials, and some of my
favorite songs to perform. I look forward to bringing you/your clientele a positive, upbeat,
SPECIAL experience. Thank you!
 2000-2001: Performed the National Anthem at several UIC Women's and Men's
Basketball games a cappella.
 2002: Sang the National Anthem on at UIC's first Commissioning Ceremony for
Military personnel. Received Letter of Commendation from the event organizer that
was copied to my supervisors.
 2006-2008: Featured jammer, Carol’s Pub (Country standards, Classic R & B, Pop,
Rock).
 2007-2011: Annual “It’s Hers!” Business and Music Expo “Showcase” in Indiana,
sponsored by Sisters in Song (SIS, Founder/President, Ms. Ernie D. Shelby, aka Lady
Sax®).
 2007: On stage with CJ and his revue at the Taste of Chicago Senior Pavilion.
 2008 and 2009: Produced shows at the former Chicago neighborhood café Ms. Sis’
Place, proprietor Ms. Pat Hill, and the Quaker House, Chicago.
 2009: Part of CJ’s Motown Review as part of a Michael Jackson tribute show (A Tim
Carter Entertainment Production), Harold Washington Cultural Center.
 2011: I performed the haunting “Strangefruit” at the National Coalition of Reparations
for Blacks in America (NCOBRA) National Conference.
 2013: I joined the multitalented Jazz Odyssey (the late Dan Bradley, bandleader) for a
few selections at the annual SCAVE (Sickle Cell Anemia Volunteer Enterprise)
fundraiser.
 2014-Present: I am a background singer and creative consultant for the diverse and
energetic Calumet Avenue - The Band, headed by the lively Steve Warren.

 2016: Featured performer at the legendary Universal Alley Jazz Jam (formerly known
as Jazz in the Alley, founded in the 1960's), stewarded for many years by the late Dr.
C. Siddha Webber.

talent show at my sisters wedding and my house warming party, she is a gifted singer and has

Carolyn Vela:
I have known Crys for over (twenty) years now. (WOW) I still remember that day we met; my
first impression was that she was nice and a hard worker; she worked a little too hard actually.
She was really a friend of my sisters first and we eventually became just as close. I knew she
sang, she was known for it but I never heard her sing until one day she just sang accopella (sic),
and my god! I thought, "that girl can sing"! Throughout the ten years that I have known her, she
has astounded me over and over again with her persistence and dedication to her gift, going to
performances, singing the national anthem at UIC, and last but definitely not least, singing at my
wedding, which was the most special thing anyone has ever done for me. She brought tears to

my eyes because you see, when Crys sings, it comes from the heart and you will be amazed at the
enchantment she brings to any singing event. I will keep rooting for Crys and her endeavor; she
truly is an artist.
