Research brief
Starting in July 1993 I did extensive research, in general on semi-
conductor physics, but more specifically on photo-voltaic cells, with
specific application on research aimed at the manufacturing of solar
cells. This research was both fundamental as well as aimed at

6. technological application in practice.
During my M.Sc., my research dealt with the reversible light-induced
changes in α-Si:H (amorphous silicon). The origin as well as the effect
of the photo-degradation was investigated and compared to various
models. My interest then shifted to research on the material properties
of copper-indium-gallium-diselenide (CIGS) solar cells. This material
is one of the most promising materials for use in solar cell
applications, because of the various material properties under
investigation.

Personal Characteristics
• It is important to me that I must enjoy what I do and therefore my career choice is not only an occupation,
but also a way of life in which I try to follow a positive and enthusiastic approach.
• I try to broaden my field of interest through various sources. Nature and outdoor living, especially
mountain climbing and jogging offer relaxation and a clear vision concerning my goals, duties, opinions of
others and important issues.
• It is important to me to follow a positive approach at all times to solutions to problems. To accomplish this,
hard work, interest and insight are but a few of the requirements. I firmly believe that: “A dream doesn’t
become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination and hard work.”
An unknown poet once said:
“A poet must write,
