The Special Operations unit that deals with the unnatural. Or what scientists have come up with and lost control of. They also deal with Rifts in our time-space continuum. They are stationed outside Area 51.

1. NIGHTSTALKERS
The Unit meets
Warehouse 13

2. Area 51 is in the middle of nowhere on the way to nowhere
To the west: The Nevada Test Site, where 739 nuclear weapons
were detonated
To the north: Nellis Air Force Base bombing range
At Groom Lake is the longest runway in the world
And underneath Area 51 is “The Can” which can detect Rifts in
our universe

3. Based at The Ranch, just outside of Area
51, the Nightstalkers are the elite Special
Operations unit that takes care of the things
that go bump in the night.
They ‘correct’ the mistakes of scientists.
They are our last defense against self-
annihilation. They’re also a little bit crazy, a
little bit mad, and a long way outside the
bell curve.

4. The Ranch
Is on “private” land across Extraterrestrial Highway from
Area 51.
Why? No one looks that way.
Unlike the Official Signs at Area 51, the warning signs for
the Ranch are spray-painted on plywood and read:
NO TRESPASSING: WE WILL SHOOT YOUR ASS

5. Why We Are Here
“We are here because the best of intentions
can go horribly awry and the worst of intentions
can achieve exactly what it sets out to do. It is
often the noblest scientific inquiry that can
produce the end of us all. We are here because
we are the last line of defense when the desire
to do right turns into a wrong. We are here
because mankind advances through trial and
error. Because nothing man does is ever perfect.
And we are ultimately here because there are
things out there, beyond mankind’s current
knowledge level, that man must be guarded
against until man can understand those things.
We must remember this.”

6. Who Are The Nightstalkers?
Every new team member goes through an in-
briefing by the enigmatic Ms. Jones (some think
she’s just a hologram) who also hand picks each of
them.
Then every team member gets to submit a single
new name for the new member.
The team then votes on the names, and thus the
member is christened with the name he/she will
forever have as a team member.
His or her past is gone as if it never existed.

7. Team Leader Who Cares for Her Team Perhaps More Than The

Medic and Team Scientist:

8. “I am become death.”
On the 16th of June, 1945, the first atomic bomb was
detonated.
Oppenheimer, one of the developers of the bomb quoted a
Hindu saying: “I am become death, the shatterer of worlds.”
And to prevent that death, and more, the Nightstalkers were
formed.

9. Why Were They Formed?
In 1947, scientists at Area 51, using the ‘demon core’
from Los Alamos, opened the first Rift.
And the first Fireflies came through.
“We’re the Nightstalkers. We kill Fireflies, and Doc
there, the Scientist, he shuts the Rift. That’s it. How
we kill the Fireflies? If it’s inside something living, I
end up flaming it until there’s nothing but ash. Non-
organic stuff, Mac and I and the rest of the team
blast and flame until there’s nothing left. Then this
little gold thing floats up out of whatever it was in
and—poof—no more Firefly.”

10. Rifts & Fireflies
No one knows what they are. Except that Fireflies
come through Rifts.
And in the first book, Area 51 Nightstalkers, a Rift
opens. One that is different than the 27 previous
Rifts.
And whoever, or whatever, is on the other side has a
plan.

11. Getting Zevoned
When a Rift opens and the Nightstalkers are alerted they get
Zevoned:
“Send lawyers, guns and money!” And the Nightstalkers.
They arrive on the Snake, a jet powered, tilt wing, experimental
aircraft.
They usually parachute in a recon element via HALO (high
altitude low opening) or HAHO (high altitude high opening).

12. The Three C’s
Nightstalkers missions have three priorities
• Containment
• Concealment
• Control

13. When I was flying around with my team in black helicopters, we
wondered who the other guys flying around in them were?
Nightstalkers are the elite Special Ops unit that take care of the
things that go bump in the night; and worse. They correct the
mistakes of scientists. They’re also a little bit crazy and a long
way outside the bell curve, and not necessarily on the good end.

14. The Nightstalkers eventually become the Time Patrol.
