contractor was able to avoid freighting and unloading
any truckloads of pipe. A dedicated Contech crew

installed. The BridgeCor structure was more cost
effective than a traditional girder bridge. Its ease of
installation was a plus on the curved, super elevated
road over the structure.

A reinforced concrete pipe (RCP) draining Karen’s Pond and
running below Pecos Street was showing signs of distress in
the deep cover situation. The structural cracks along the
invert and crown of the RCP meant it needed to be replaced
or relined. DuroMaxx Steel Reinforced Polyethylene (SRPE)
pipe was selected to slip line the RCP for its ability to carry
the entire load without any contribution from the failing RCP.

active rail line that was previously posing a serious safety
concern to the general public visiting the zoo. Trains

The Spalding Bridge Scour Repair Project, winner of the
AASHTO President’s Transportation Award, was rated
among the top 10 most scour-critical bridges in the
state. Several piers of the 1,200-ft bridge built in 1962
were in danger of undermining. A-Jacks concrete armor
units were installed in high flowing water conditions to
stabilize the piers without needing to dewater or divert
the river while protecting the sensitive habitat.
