Industrial relations issues and lessons from Maruthi Suzuki, Manesar.
• 18-07-2012 workers attacked Maruthi plant.
• Ransacked and vandalized.
• Set portion of the plant on fire.• Set portion of the plant on fire.
• A charred body was found after putting off the blaze.
• The body was identified as Avinash Kumar Dev, G M HR.
• He was fractured and could not escape fire.
• A brutal murder and barbaric act.
• 19-07-2012 management declared lockout.
• About 100 workmen were arrested.
• Government constituted SIT.
• Investigation still going on.
• Management lifted lockout 19-08-2012.
VIOLENCE AT WORKPLACE MARUTHI MANESAR
• Management dismissed 500 workers.
• Most of the workers are underground.
• Only 54 workers named in the FIR.• Only 54 workers named in the FIR.
• No evidence to show attack as premeditated one……….Police commissioner Haryana.
• Allegations and counter allegations for the violence and persons responsible.
UPROARIOUS RESPONSE:
• Dent India’s image as manufacturing base and safe destination for investment. SAARC-
chambers of commerce chairman , SHANEY.
• Urgent need to have a system to ensure violence free work place. Secretary general SHARAD
PATIL, Employers Federation of India.
• Violence cannot be tolerated. Should be abhorred HARSHA JHA BENGAL chamber of
commerce.
• All employers bodies and many prominent industrialists condemned the violence.
ON DISMISSALS
•A vindictive and retaliatory action in connivance with law enforcement authorities.

• New generation young work force needs to be tackled carefully.
