The Scott Center was busy in academic year 2004-2005. Center Director Matthew A. Dettman, P.E. served as the Design and Quality Control Engineer for
3 major Civil Engineering projects and has utilized several Civil Engineering Students in both the Design phase and Construction phase of these projects.
In addition, new faculty member Shane Palmquist has also been involved in the field working with students to collect critically important data on the cast-in-
place concrete.

the field collecting concrete data
Student Kal Vencill checking the
air content of the concrete to
make sure it can resist freezing
temperatures

test data sheet showing the
information that the students
collect in the field, then bring the
test samples into the lab for
compression testing, and then
finally producing this report that is
sent out to the owner, architect,
and general contractor.
The Scott Center was responsible for monitoring the installation of the
deep foundation system, the strength, air content, unit weight, and
workability of all of the cast in place concrete, and placement of
engineered fill.

Innovation and Commercialization CenterThe Scott Center was responsible for design and construction
monitoring of the foundation system, as well as special
inspections for steel, concrete, and fireproofing for this project. A
sinkhole was discovered under one of the corners of the building
which required design modifications in the field during
construction.
The Scott Center was responsible for design and construction
inspection of the deep foundation system for this project. The
structure is built over a section of Lost River Cave which required
special considerations during both design and construction.
