1. DICTIONARY DECEMBER 2016 - TEFLON
COATINGS
Cataphoresis - KTL: This is an immersion coating method which consists in
providing a solid component in dispersion with an electrical charge to the surface of
the metallic part to be coated with an opposite electric charge.
Monolayer: A nonstick coating made up of a single layer, which it can be either
fluoropolymer or silicone-based.
Three-layered coating: Nonstick coating made up of 3 layers: a primer reinforced
with ceramic (or other material) fillers, an intermediate layer providing colour and
cohesion between the first and the third layer, and a top layer with an excellent
nonstick feature.
Nano: This is a Latin prefix from the word "nanus" meaning a billionth part of
something. Related to it there is Nanotechnology, which is applied to fields such as
physics, chemistry and biology. Nanoparticles can be added to certain nonstick
coatings to highlight a characteristic of the coating, such as the specific resistance to
a specific chemical agent.
ECTFE: Fluorine-, carbon-, chlorine- and ethyl-based chemical compound better
known as HALAR®. It is a very thick coating supplied by SOLVAY with an excellent
chemical resistance and a working temperature of 150 °C.
Polyamide 6: Polymer of the type Aliphatic Polyamide made up of amide bonds and
synthesized by DuPont for the first time. It is a specific polymer for the extrusion of
parts requiring high toughness and strength.
Glue Repellent: PFA-based nonstick coatings are highly effective as glue repellents,
and they are highly used in industrial procedures as a coating for glue tanks and parts
in contact with glue.
