Use and/or get involved!
Here are some example BIM standards and guidelines from back in 2017
There have been soooo many! Some awful??
But many really solid foundational and supporting documents.
However - even with this initial BIM guidance - our industry has struggled with moving to business and usual with BIM
Challenges with tools and processes
Lot’s to do with communication
In 2017 we tried to build a solution to help with the sharing of these standards and expert curated content
Built an app WITH A SHARE BUTTON!
Idea was that people would put their standards on the app AND SHARE with the community
What happened?
At first we didn’t have a community
Then even after we had built a large community we discovered that nobody was sharing
Either because:
Lacked confidence to share their work
Or valued it so much that it was their secret sauce
In the end we REMOVED the Share button ;)
Silver linings:
Organically grew expert BIM community!
Helped each other - some of the largest BIM consulting contracts gained through this network
A community of people that DID want to do this together!
...and we had the starting point for an awesome BIM management tool
Each and every company/person found their own way of contributing:
educational institutes, for teaching
volunteers for translations
Individuals to deliver educational webinars
etc...
