1. Formula for Proficiency Level
PL = Mean x
50
+ 50
Number of Items
Grade 1 and 2 PL = Mean x 1.67+50
Grade 3 and 4 PL = Mean x 1.25+50
Grade 5 and 6 PL = Mean + 50
Item Analysis:
1. Arrange the test papers from the highest score to the lowest.
2. If the number of test takers is 30 and below, get the 50% Upper Group and
50% Lower Group
3. If the number of test takers is 31 and above, get the 27% (constant) Upper
group and 27%(Constant) Lower Group
Example: There are 43 test takers
27% Upper Group – 11.61 or 12
27% Lower Group – 11.61 or 12
TOTAL = 24
Difficulty Index
= Total number of students from the UG and LG who got it correctly/Total
Example:
Item 1 - 10 correct answer from the UG and 4 correct answers from the LG = 14
=14/24
=.58 – Average
Legend:
.76 and above = Easy
.25-.76 = Average
.24 and below = Difficult
Discrimination Index
=(Number of correct answers from the UG-Number of Correct Answers
from the LG) / one-half of the Total
=(10-4)/12
=6/12
=0.5 – Very Discriminating
Legend:
.40 and above – Very Discriminating
.30 to .39 - Discriminating
.20 to .29 - Moderately Discriminating
.10 to .19 - Not Discriminating
.09 and below - Poor Item
