6. GOING GREEN & SERVING OURCOMMUNITY
At Savenda Farms, we invest in more than justthe bottom line. Beyond our
diverse product range, we strive to provide value for money by including
hundreds of rural, small-scale agricultural communities in the production,
processing, and value addition of our crops and animals to create positive
social economic effects. Similarly,we recognize that ensuring the long-term
wellbeing of our communities necessitates incorporating environmentally
beneficial practices into our
agricultural endeavours, which we
are always strivingtoachieve.
A.Going Green
From using solar powered water
pumps and streetlightsto producing
our own feed and developing
organic fertilizers,
Savenda Farms
continues to make
every effort towards
integrating
environment friendly,
sustainable practices
into our farming.
Solarised farming in
particular is becoming a significant
priority among the different efforts
undertakenby Savenda.
The company intends to make use
of "agrivoltaics," or AVP, which
7. ideally involves employing big
expanses of land to put up not only
standard solar farms, but large
regions covered with rows of solar
panels alongside crops growing on
the ground beneath and between
the equipment. The goal is to
produce quality food by ensuring
an optimal environment for the
crops while simultaneously
producing green electricity to
power other farm operations such
as lightingand irrigation.
B. Serving Our Community
Aside from creating employment for over 260 staffersand casual labourers,
SAVENDA Farms aggregates many of itsneighbouring small-scalefarmers to
empower them and give them an opportunity to grow their own crops at
competitive prices. We participate in a number of community initiativessuch
as building roads [to and around each of our farms], police stations, bridges
and health care facilities. We are also creating free agricultural advisory
centres across our farming locations, and have successfullybeen deploying
practical, sustainable and economically scalable rural out grower fishpond
farming systems.Allof these efforts(60 percent of which are directed towards
women and youth) are aimed at strengtheningour communitiesby providing
opportunities for skilldevelopment, long-termincome, nutritionalsupport, and
market access, among other things.
