•The degree of force with which a
syllable or word is uttered

• A unit of sound made from a single vowel or single
vowel/consonant combination
• Every word is made from syllable
• Each word has one, two, three or more syllables

Rule #1:
With most nouns and adjectives with 2
syllables, the stress is on the first syllable
Example:

the stress is on the second syllable

the stress is usually on the second last
