been invited to attend the CLIC
Sargent Carnival Raceday at Perth
RacecourseonAugust20.

this week when he was having a
nosey round the grounds with his
dadShaun.
Carnival Raceday is going to
be a big experience for young VIP
Sam,whowillbedrawingtheraffle,
judging the best turned out horse,
and speaking to punters about his
time receiving cancer treatment in
Edinburgh.
Earlier this year, football-mad
Sam was picked to be a mascot at
the Scottish Cup Final between
Rangers and Hibs, but those good
timesfollowedaterribleordeal.
Sam was diagnosed with a large
B Cell Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma
afterexperiencingapaininhiship.
Doctorsinvestigatedandfounda
10cmlongtumourpressingagainst
hisbladder.
In the months that followed
virtuallyeveryaspectofhisfamily’s
normal life was put on hold as he
becameapatientatEdinburghRoyal
SickChildren’sHospital.
DuringhistimeatthehospitalSam
had steroid treatment before five
intenseperiodsofchemotherapy.
His father, Shaun, said: “We
were suddenly plunged into a very
frighteningsituation.

order of the day for locals or
those on their holidays in
Perthshire.

number of horses travelling
to Perth has jumped up

Rock at the Races on
Tuesday evening is followed
by afternoon racing on the
Wednesday. Ticket holders
will be treated to seven top
classjumpracesoneachday
and once again the entries
look exceptionally strong
withplentyofinterestfroma
host of Irish trainers as well
thosethroughouttheUK.
These two remaining July
fixtures set the scene for
the Clic Sargent Carnival
Raceday next month, the
biggestracedayoftheseason.
