Job History
Dynegy: 2015.
Oracle: 9i, 10g, 11g, 12c,OEM 12c Cloud Control on RedHat Linux Cluster
SQL Server: 2012 with SharePoint.
Sybase: 15.0.2 on Red Hat Linux Cluster
SQL Server 2012 SharePoint. Identified high disk latency issues as cause of SharePoint job failures. Improved
IO 10X moving data from ISCSI to fiber channel.
OEM 12c Cloud Control: Installed OEM on 12c database. Migrated crontab jobs to OEM.
RMAN: Wrote queries to analyze backup failures due to lack of network bandwidth for TSM tapes. Manually
cleared FRA space with creative kludges as budget prevented permanent solution. Migrated RMAN catalog to
12c. Dynegy was active in cloning production to build dozen clones to test.
Future Cluster: All Oracle databases were on Red Hat Linux cluster. BI cubes were on old Essbase servers.
Architected replacement hardware, considering Exadata/RAC/ASM, Red Hat cluster, VMware Red Hat Linux.
DR: Worked with SunGard on CommVault Disaster Recovery as a Service implementation.
Oracle Performance: Performed frequent performance tuning using AWR and OEM. AWR was useful to start
with infrastructure tuning, such as Oracle shared memory settings and disk IO. Next step was to look for
runaway unnecessary jobs. Finally use AWR to find most expensive queries and tune indexes. Dynegy had
frequent scheme cloning in production.
Sybase: Migrated 15.0.2 databases applications to Oracle.
Marathon Oil: 2014.
Oracle: 9i, 10g, 11g. OEM 12c Cloud Control on AIX/LPAR, RedHat Linux, Solaris, Windows/VMWare with
ESRI ArcGIS, SAP BRTools, Hyperion., Informatica, Spotfire.
EMC: Networker, RecovryPoint, SRDF, XTremIO.
RMAN, DataGuard, SAN replication, DR. Backups/restores to refresh test databases. Creating and
repairing DataGusrd standby. Repair OEM monitoring of Data Guard. Use of EMC and Netapps SAN
replication technology such as EMC RecoverPoint between US and European data centers.
RMAN with EMC data domain backups. Migration of tape backups to data domain deduplication
through RMAN and data pump configuration and scripts.
Oracle licensing, VMware. End of life server hardware migration to new blade servers with large core counts.
Due to Oracle licensing cost considerations, migration from physical servers to VMs using EMC XTremIO flash
arrays. Saved half million of license costs by documenting all servers and returning unused licenses.
EMC and NetApp SAN. AWR benchmarking of IO onNetapps NetFilers, EMC VMax and XTremIO flash
array, FusionIO SSD using SwingBench.
SAP query performance tuning with AWR. Identifying expensive queries, missing indexes, tables requiring

reorg due to advanced compression, cache management.
SAP BRTools, Oracle advanced compression. Reorganization of tablespaces to shrink data files and convert
to advanced compression. Tuning required of Oracle SGA parameters and data file sizing for 4 TB SAP Oracle
database.
SOX auditing. Correct and add to SOX auditing scripts and documented guidelines.
ServiceNow change management, Remedy. As part of conversion from Remedy to ServiceNow, helped
establish guidelines for documenting database change management, with special considerations for Business As
Usual changes.
Mentoring offshore resources. Trained new offshore DBA resources to follow standard practices and scripts,
such in installing Oracle, building OFM compliant database and RMAN backup/restores with EMC data domain
Citrix application server tuning Hyperion. Assisted application teams to properly size RAM so that both
application and database servers performed properly
Hess: 2010-2014.
Oracle: 9i, 10g, 11g on HPUX, RedHat Linux, Windows/AWS/VMWare with ESTI ArcGIS, Oracle Retail, SAP,
Spotfire.
SQL Server: 2005, 2008,2012 with Cognos, Hyperion, SAP BWECC, Hana, SharePoint, SSAS Analyst Services,
SSIS Integration Services, SSRS Reporting Services. .
Sybase: 12.5, 15.0.2, and 15.5 on Windows.
SAN performance tuning. Tuned Hyperion and SAP Oracle ETL jobs by moving tablespaces and data files to
new LUNS. Tuned IO for a number of SQL Server databases such as Documentum and 4 TB SAP ECC and BW
by moving data files to new LUNS or databases to new SQL instances.
Oracle Pro*C and Partitioning 4 TB Retek Retail Data Warehouse bMigrated Pro*C ETL code ro 64 but
HPUX. Implemented partitioning of data warehouse to simplify index reorganize.
Database appliance applications. Supported DBA activities for DB2, MySQL, Netezza, Postgres, and SAP
Hana.
Database partitioning SQL Server and Sybase. Used partitioning in SQL Server to improve performance and
maintainability of multi-terabyte data warehouses. Investigate partitions for Sybase.
DataGuard Log shipping, replication, AWS, SAP Global. Synchronization of Oracle and SQL
Server databases between US and Europe/Asia for SAP and GIS. Amazon cloud.
Oracle and Sql Server query tuning. Worked with a number of application vendor third party databases,
custom in house database applications, and some legacy vendor applications that became in house customized
applications. Identifying expensive queries, index issues.
Citrix and VMware. Resolved performance issues on application and database servers including Citrix and VMs
where servers were underpowered. Implemented Solarwindsperformance monitoring dashboard tool for database
servers. Applications users and infrastructure understood dashboard reports and cooperated with change
requested based on dashboards rather than spreadsheets.
Project management, licensing, VMware. Build an inventory database for the management of data center
move. Linked database servers with application and Citrix servers to move of all servers were grouped by
application department. Project lead to architect move of many Oracle databases to VMware. Success of project
saved Hess hundreds of thousands of dollars in Oracle licensing.
SQL Server 2008 upgrade to 2012, Always On, SSIS, SAP. Major SAP upgrade from SQL Server 2008 to 2012
and SAN conversion from IBM to NetApp. SAP BW was also replaced with Hana. A number of
other applications interfacing to SAP ECC or Hana was upgraded using SSIS 2012. Numerous technical
challenges especially with SAN IO performance. Benchmarks to demonstrate IO issues and identify LUNs with
bottlenecks. Benchmarking SAP transactions with AlwaysOn replicated databases and NetApp vs. IBM storage.
SSIS Oracle, Postgres, SQL Server, Sybase, SAP Hana. Performed ETL on projects involving various
application interfaces to both SAP and non-SAP.
SSRS: Migration of reports from 2005 to 2008. Creating reports. Resolving bugs and performance issues.
Sysinfo: 2005-2009. SQL Server DBA.
