Throughout the process of completing this assignment, we have been thoroughly blessed by the
aid and contribution from the parties who were kind enough to lend a helping hand. As such, we
would just want to take this opportunity to express our heartfelt gratitude to these
parties/individuals.

First up, Mr Shankar, our lecturer - for his prompt responses and availability when approached
for advice. His efforts in preparing his lectures and course materials is greatly appreciated.
Jane & Lyvier - for volunteering themselves to be a part of our video as extras.
Cheok’s parents - for being willing to send Cheok to campus for our many group meetings.
Our classmates - for giving invaluable feedback and comments regarding our video even as we
were coming up with the concepts and editing our footage.
4. Introduction
For the Social Psychology module, our final assignment consists of three components.
These components are namely the production of a video clip, the preparation of report based on
the video and finally the presentation of the video in class. The goal of all these was to
incorporate the psychology concepts we had learned in class. To complete this tasks, we were
divided into a group of six members, the six members being Caleb, Jenny, Cheok, Yin Ji, Apple
and Esther.

This assignment aims to allow students to recognize and identify the connections among
concepts and perspectives within psychology and other disciplines. Furthermore, this project also
allows us to apply the concepts that we were taught during our lectures and tutorials in a real life
situation.
5. Method
5.1 Apparatus used
● Compact camera
● Note books
● Oatmeal Tin
● Marker Pens
5.2 Participants
The participants who will be in the video are our group members. We have six members in a
group and all of us would have to play a role in the video.
5.3 Procedure
1. Each member in the group were assigned to play different roles to in the video. Cheok
would be the main character in the video. Esther and Apple were to be Taylor’s students,
Caleb would be the leader of the St. John Club and Yin Ji would play the role of Cheok’s
best friend.

2. Caleb gave a short briefing about the storyline and the roles that each of our member
would play.
3. All of the members prepared the apparatus which were needed in the video to make it
more realistic and sensible.
4. An appropriate setting to portray the desired situation was chosen to film the scene.
5. Filming of the scene began. Every actor had to follow the script prepared to ensure that
everyone followed the storyline.
6. All the scenes which we’d filmed were combined and compiled into a final video clip.
6. Discussion
As a group, we discussed about the storyline, which needed to include five social psychology
concepts, for our video.
6.1 The Storyline
This story revolves around our main character, Cheok. Cheok was a member of St. John
Ambulance Malaysia in her high school. And every year, in conjunction with the annual Flag
Day, they would go about collecting donations to contribute to their association. So it was during
such an occasion when the SJAM members were deciding on a suitable location to collect
donations, Cheok suggested to head to Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus as she had the
impression that the students there were all wealthy and such would be willing to donate more.
So after the agreement of everyone, Cheok headed to Taylor’s the very next day. She started of
with a positive outlook, with high hopes that the student from Taylor’s University would be
really generous due to their presumed wealth.
Unfortunately, as the day went on, Cheok started to realize that might not be the case as most of
the students rejected her approach. She got more and more discouraged as the day progressed
until she could no longer bear it.
She broke down and got really angry, frustrated at the big let down she felt as the reality of the
students from Taylor’s did not match her initial expectations. At this moment, Cheok’s close

friend, Yin Ji, saw Cheok’s expression and came over to comfort her. She encouraged Cheok and
gave her some advice which helped to lift up Cheok’s spirit.
6.2 Script

Caleb: Okay alright guys, as you all should know by now, Flag Day is just around the
corner. So in conjunction with that, we would be having our annual donation
collection!
*Everyone cheers*
Caleb: Alright, so for this year, we are planning to collect around RM40,000 in funds. So
do any of you have any suggestions as to where we should collect the donations?
*The committee starts discussing among themselves*
*Cheok then raises her hand*
Cheok: I suggest Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus!

Caleb: Oh, Taylor’s Lakeside? Why do you suggest that place?
Cheok: Well, I heard that the students there are very rich, so I don’t think it would be
hard if we collect some donation there.
Caleb: Hmmm, good idea! I heard that the students at Taylor’s Lakeside are rich too!
Alright! Let’s do that instead!
Scene 2 - Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus Entrance
*Cheok enters with an excited expression & meets Student 1*
Cheok: Hi! Do you want to donate money to our St John’s Association?
Student 1: No thanks.
Cheok: Why?.... It’s okay then.
*Repeats conversation with another three students and gets rejected*
Scene 3 - Classroom
*Cheok reflects on her day*
Cheok: Why are the students in Taylor’s Lakeside like that? I thought they would be very
generous and willing to donate money since they are very rich? Sigh, I am so
disappointed!
*Walks out really unhappy, slams the door hard*
Scene 4 - Corridor
*Cheok stands at the corridor, sighing*
*Yin Ji comes over to Cheok*
Yin Ji: Hey Cheok, are you alright? Don’t be sad, I understand how you feel.
Cheok: Why do the students in Taylor’s Lakeside treating me this way? I thought that

they are all very rich people.
Yin Ji: It is alright, we can go to other places to collect donations too!
Cheok: Yeah, I hope things would turn out better elsewhere.
THE END
6.3 Concepts
Stereotype
During the meeting regarding Flag Day, St John members were required to suggest a place for
fund raising. Taylor’s University was the first came to Cheok’s mind. She thought Taylor’s
students are very rich and therefore they could reach their target very soon. She stereotypes every
Taylor’s student shares the same attribution which is very rich.
Persuasion
Cheok persuaded Taylor’s students who she met to make a donation. She took central route to
persuade them. She convinced Taylor’s students by telling them how important the fund meant
to all of the St John’s members.
Diffusion in responsibility
Most of the Taylor’s students who were approached by Cheok refused to donate. It is because
they assumed that if they didn’t donate, someone else will still make a donation. However, when
everyone shares the same opinion, there is no one who makes a contribution to help in sustaining
St John activities and services to the community.
Aggression
When Cheok got rejected by every Taylor’s student who refused to help, she eventually got
irritated and angry. She shouted, kicked the chairs and slammed the door to release her
frustration.
Social Support
Cheok got really upset when she didn’t manage to reach the target which set by her leader.
Therefore, she sought for social support from her best friend in St John. She needed someone
who understood her situation and how she felt in order to reduce cognitive dissonance.

Furthermore, this project also allows us to apply the concepts that we were taught during our lectures and tutorials in a real life situation. 5. Method 5.1 Apparatus used ● Compact camera ● Note books ● Oatmeal Tin ● Marker Pens 5.2 Participants The participants who will be in the video are our group members. We have six members in a group and all of us would have to play a role in the video. 5.3 Procedure 1. Each member in the group were assigned to play different roles to in the video. Cheok would be the main character in the video. Esther and Apple were to be Taylor’s students, Caleb would be the leader of the St. John Club and Yin Ji would play the role of Cheok’s best friend.
  • 5. 5 2. Caleb gave a short briefing about the storyline and the roles that each of our member would play. 3. All of the members prepared the apparatus which were needed in the video to make it more realistic and sensible. 4. An appropriate setting to portray the desired situation was chosen to film the scene. 5. Filming of the scene began. Every actor had to follow the script prepared to ensure that everyone followed the storyline. 6. All the scenes which we’d filmed were combined and compiled into a final video clip. 6. Discussion As a group, we discussed about the storyline, which needed to include five social psychology concepts, for our video. 6.1 The Storyline This story revolves around our main character, Cheok. Cheok was a member of St. John Ambulance Malaysia in her high school. And every year, in conjunction with the annual Flag Day, they would go about collecting donations to contribute to their association. So it was during such an occasion when the SJAM members were deciding on a suitable location to collect donations, Cheok suggested to head to Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus as she had the impression that the students there were all wealthy and such would be willing to donate more. So after the agreement of everyone, Cheok headed to Taylor’s the very next day. She started of with a positive outlook, with high hopes that the student from Taylor’s University would be really generous due to their presumed wealth. Unfortunately, as the day went on, Cheok started to realize that might not be the case as most of the students rejected her approach. She got more and more discouraged as the day progressed until she could no longer bear it. She broke down and got really angry, frustrated at the big let down she felt as the reality of the students from Taylor’s did not match her initial expectations. At this moment, Cheok’s close
  • 6. 6 friend, Yin Ji, saw Cheok’s expression and came over to comfort her. So do any of you have any suggestions as to where we should collect the donations? *The committee starts discussing among themselves* *Cheok then raises her hand* Cheok: I suggest Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus!
  • 7. 7 Caleb: Oh, Taylor’s Lakeside? Why do you suggest that place? Cheok: Well, I heard that the students there are very rich, so I don’t think it would be hard if we collect some donation there. Caleb: Hmmm, good idea! I heard that the students at Taylor’s Lakeside are rich too! Alright! Let’s do that instead! Scene 2 - Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus Entrance *Cheok enters with an excited expression & meets Student 1* Cheok: Hi! Do you want to donate money to our St John’s Association? Student 1: No thanks. Cheok: Why?.... It’s okay then. *Repeats conversation with another three students and gets rejected* Scene 3 - Classroom *Cheok reflects on her day* Cheok: Why are the students in Taylor’s Lakeside like that? I thought they would be very generous and willing to donate money since they are very rich? Sigh, I am so disappointed! *Walks out really unhappy, slams the door hard* Scene 4 - Corridor *Cheok stands at the corridor, sighing* *Yin Ji comes over to Cheok* Yin Ji: Hey Cheok, are you alright? Don’t be sad, I understand how you feel. Cheok: Why do the students in Taylor’s Lakeside treating me this way? I thought that
  • 8. 8 they are all very rich people. Yin Ji: It is alright, we can go to other places to collect donations too! Cheok: Yeah, I hope things would turn out better elsewhere. THE END 6.3 Concepts Stereotype During the meeting regarding Flag Day, St John members were required to suggest a place for fund raising. Taylor’s University was the first came to Cheok’s mind. She thought Taylor’s students are very rich and therefore they could reach their target very soon. She stereotypes every Taylor’s student shares the same attribution which is very rich. Persuasion Cheok persuaded Taylor’s students who she met to make a donation. She took central route to persuade them. She convinced Taylor’s students by telling them how important the fund meant to all of the St John’s members. Diffusion in responsibility Most of the Taylor’s students who were approached by Cheok refused to donate. It is because they assumed that if they didn’t donate, someone else will still make a donation. However, when everyone shares the same opinion, there is no one who makes a contribution to help in sustaining St John activities and services to the community. Aggression When Cheok got rejected by every Taylor’s student who refused to help, she eventually got irritated and angry. She shouted, kicked the chairs and slammed the door to release her frustration. Social Support Cheok got really upset when she didn’t manage to reach the target which set by her leader. Therefore, she sought for social support from her best friend in St John. She needed someone who understood her situation and how she felt in order to reduce cognitive dissonance.
