Future objective
I thoroughly enjoy working with young people, they have a great energy and I get great satisfaction from
seeing them cultivate and develop their artistic potential and grow into young adults and embark on their
journey through further education and work. With ten years of British National Curriculum teaching
experience completed. My intention is to further my career as a key stage 3, 4 and 5 classroom teacher in
Dubai. I also aspire to achieve a leadership post such as Head of Year/House at some point. With my
background in Art, Textiles and Product Design I feel I am the perfect well equipped candidate for the
position of Art Teacher at your school. I have taught a range of Arts and Technologies working with a range
of medium and including three dimensional sculpture, ceramics, textiles, graphic design, weave,
photography, CAD and resistance materials. However Art and Textiles remains my specialism.
Current objective:
VISS Victoria International School Sharjah UAE 2014 – present
My most recent achievement is making the move from the UK to the U.A.E and quickly settling into school
life at Victoria International School of Sharjah; which I have thoroughly enjoyed and made the most of.
The clientele at VISS is mainly Muslim. There are sixty five nationalities at VISS, but mainly from the Middle
East. I have been following and delivering the newly revised International Baccaulareate Art program
which encourages students to enquire, plan, create, evaluate and reflect, research analyse and create a
portfolio of art work and organise an exhibition. I have been teaching Art, Design Technology and Textiles
from year six up to year twelve and setting projects which are both challenging yet suitable for each age
range and giving the opportunity to work in a range of mediums. I have used a range of ICT skills CAD/CAM,
2D Design, laser cutter, vinyl cutter, milling machine, CAD/CAM Embroidery, Adobe Photo Shop, surface
decoration techniques including batik, block, silk screen printing, heat transfer, digital print, tie die, a range
of graphic techniques, observational drawing, colour theory, tone and shade technique, 3D sculpture,
ceramics and delivered projects in the style of various design movements and art history. Other duties
include writing and adapting schemes of work, ordering materials for the Art department, organising the
annual art exhibition, delivering workshops for events such as National Day. I am currently a year nine
home group teacher. I have developed an extra curriculum club in my free time called Passion for Fashion
which has been hugely popular, often sacrificing lunch and after school time to help students and
encourage their artistic expression. I have organised art trips to various galleries in Al Quoz, DIFC and
Sharjah Arts Musuem.
Heles School 2008 – 2014
Previously at Heles School my biggest achievement is researching, introducing and delivering GCSE Product
Design for the AQA exam board. I am very proud to state that I achieved 100% A*- C every year since I
introduced the subject. Product Design incorporates the use of working with paper and card and one
2. other material whether it be fabric, acrylic, wood, graphic products. The final grade is based on 60%
coursework. Students have to produce a portfolio of work and a final product based on a theme and a final
exam which accounts for the other 40% of the final grade. Other duties include being a house tutor,
writing and adapting schemes of work, introducing and embedding WALT/WILF split screen lessons and
Learning Habits into all lessons, organising a fund raising school fashion show and I was an examiner for
the AQA exam board for two years.
I was also heavily involved with the Royal Navy section for the Combined Cadet Forces. Prior to beginning a
career in education and after graduating with a BA Hons degree, I gained relevant industry experience
working as a Textile Print Designer, Visual Merchandiser and working within the buying and design team
for the clothing store Oasis, London.
