To Whom This May Concern,
INSA de LYON,
31th October 2016,
Object: Letter of recommendation for Mr. Chidanand Lokanatha.
As part of his Master's degree, Mr. Lokanatha completed an internship at the Centre for
Energetics and Thermal Sciences of Lyon (CETHIL). He worked for more than six months (from
March till September, 2016) under our supervising in the framework of the activities of the both
“Micro and Nano Scale Heat Transfer” and “Heat Transfer in Polymers and Composites” research
groups of CETHIL. His research work focused on the modelling for Scanning Thermal Microscopy
applied to polymeric materials. They aimed at proposing a new modeling tool to accompany the
development of an experimental technique dedicated to a better understanding of heat transfer at
nano- and micro-scales and localized thermophysical characterization of materials using a small
heated nanoprobe contacting a sample surface.
From the beginning of his internship and on the basis of the knowledge he acquired during
his university studies, Mr. Lokanatha dissected the state of the art to control the topic of his
research project. The bibliographic work done by Mr. Lokanatha is very relevant and constitutes a
good basis for the continuation of the work in the laboratory.
Regarding his numerical modeling activity, after training at modeling tools to which Mr.
Lokanatha was not familiar Mr. Lokanatha was able to achieve the complete thermal modeling of a
complex multiscale and multiparameter system trying to take into account the size effects and the
associated thermophysical property changes.
In General, we are satisfied with the work done by Mr. Lokanatha who gave a good effort
although his basic training was not completely in line with the subject he treated. Mr. Lokanatha
was furthermore perfectly integrated with our both research groups and he evolved with efficiency.
We would like therefore to testify of its abilities to adapt and produce quality work.
Given the evidence presented above, we highly recommend Mr Lokanatha.
