• First sponge iron plant in Asia ,promoted in the joint sector by the
Industrial Promotion & Investment Corporation of Orissa Ltd. and Tor-
steel Research Foundation India (TRFI).
• 1st to develop the technology known as the OSIL process which was
patented in 1988 to produce sponge iron using high grade coal instead of
the traditional method of using coal.
• The technology has been adopted for use in projects funded by IDBI,
World Bank (IFC) and the German Development Bank (DEG).
• One of the few companies in India to receive carbon credits from the
WORLD BANK due to its contribution in clean environment. As per
the United Nations Framework of Climate Changes (UNFCCC)
3. PRODUCTION CAPACITY
• Two nos. Rotary Kiln based Sponge Iron plants: One of production
capacity 100,000 TPA and the other having 150,000 TPA capacities.
• Two nos. Waste Heat Recovery Power Plants: One with 15 MW capacity
and another having 30 MW capacity.
• One Steel Billet Plant of 1, 00,000 TPA capacity, through induction
furnace route.
• One Mini Blast Furnace and a Sinter Plant to produce 500,000 Tons of
Hot Metal commissioned in April 2007.
• The Steel producing capacity was enhanced to 500,000 TPA in 2008.
