There are three types of water heaters run by gas, oil and electricity respectively. Electric

easy to install and maintain and require no vent. Gas water heaters are costly to buy, but
not to operate. However, they require vents for letting out the spent gas. Oil water heaters
are costlier and difficult to maintain. They also occupy a lot of space and need venting.
Considering all the aspects electric water heaters are the best buy. Moreover, if you have
some knowledge of plumbing and electrical connections then you can do water heater
installation yourself.
Water heater Installation
Water heater installation is not a herculean task. You just need few tools like a propane
torch, a tube cutter, paste soldering flux, pads of steel wool and a wire brush and a solder,
preferably lead free. You also need a 3/4th
diameter copper tube of whole length and a pair
of good quality gloves. The first step is selecting the place where you want the heater to be.
The place should be such that it is beyond the reach of children.
3. After selecting the place you need few concrete blocks to place the heater on. These will
make sure that even if there is a minor flood at home owing to some plumbing deficiency or
emergency the heater will not be affected. Also you will be able to access the drain of the
tank more easily.
You should center the tank on the blocks so that it has a stable position. For the inlet of
cold water you need to cut out a 6-7 inches long piece from the copper tube with the tube
cutter. The tube cutting should be soldered tightly to the inlet nipple of the tank. For
soldering the blue flame inside must be long enough to heat the soldering paste
comprehensively, and as soon as the solder material starts to drip from bottom the
soldering will be complete.
4. The T&P valve
The temperature and pressure valve is a very important part of any water heater. It saves
the heater as well as the inhabitants of the house from accidents. If there is abnormal build
up of pressure or high temperature due to some reason the T&P valve helps the tank in
releasing the pressure. The rating of T&P valve should be same as that of the water heater.
The valve should be positioned in such a way that sudden sprinkling of hot water does not
hurt the children or the pet in your house.
Electric connection
To access the electrical wires coming out of the heating system just remove the covering
plate at the top. For connection you need a 220 V circuit with a corresponding circuit
breaker.
